AIBU?

To think gumtree is now as bad as freecycle for loons

Advertising a very fairly priced double buggy at 75 quid should have gone higher to be knocked down

No issue with those that say 'Can I offer xxx' but I keep getting reasons for why I must give it for less:

'I only plan to use in the park so I will pay 50'
'It's only for a holiday so I can collect and pay 30'
'My toddler walks a lot so I might not need it long so I think 40 is fair'
'I'm just up the road so will pay 40 and be there soon'
'I plan to spend 20'

um, I don't give a shit if you're planning to use as a sacrifice to appease the tantrum gods frankly!
Get one of the shitty cheap dirty ones also listed!

Oh! Once on eBay there was a painting listed for £10 I won the bid. When I came to be charged she'd put £100!! I messaged her to say wtf? And she went mad! 'This took me hours, it's my ART I'm not going to sell it for £10 am i'? EBay resolved it, bit she messaged a few times after calling me all sorts Hmm

There's a bloke on my local site who replies to every single damn advert. He always asks a question that was listed in the ad, and 90% of the time he then passes.

Some sellers are just as bad. "Clothes, must go today" with no other details. If you want them gone that fucking badly, maybe try at least listing what size they are, how much you want... Dare I suggest a fucking photo?

Drives me nuts. Absolutely nuts.

We sold our very old but lovely caravan via Gumtree to a man who had not only visited it but actually gone over it with a fine toothcomb and took hours and hours over two visits to make sure it was the one for him. Handed over the cash (we gave a receipt) and then cheekily asked for loads of extras for free that we had intended to sell on too. Not the major problem, no. The major problem was that he then called back days later to tell us how he had been "working" on it and found an OLD repair and that he wasn't happy about it. News to us, must have been a previous owner's work but was never noticed by us. He had now even dismantled a major part of it and couldn't put it back so now informed us that he didn't think it was worth the money in this (partially dismantled) condition. Said his wife wasn't happy. He decided that we should give him a couple of £k back. We declined his kind offer. (Posted on MN for advice at the time).

I moved to FB selling after Ebay decided it hated it's sellers.

"NEEDS GONE ASAP!"
So, you're desperate to get rid? That will help you get the best price!

"Need X FREE. MUST DELIVER!"
This makes me rage.

I got my pram, cot, stroller and a rocking sit on toy for free from our local selling page. I've found not being a cunt and saying please does you wonders. DH and I will pass it all on again when we're done, plus some. I am dreading it.

I joined a pram fb page when I was looking for a specific pram in my area. just reading the posts was an education in itself. people selling full travel systems few weeks old because they fancy a change which would cost say 600 new. people offering to swap a grimy buggy for it, or offer 60 because they didnt want to spend the 100 it was on offer at. others post a random pic of their pram at an odd angle with no explanation or description. followed with comments of hm hun? and replies if inbox ya. then 6/7 more people, hm hunni? and more "inbox ya"
what? why? is it a fucking secret price??
in the end, I bought the one I wanted off ebay to save myself the hassle of interacting with these cunts. Selling brand new prams for 50/60 pounds, they are driving the prices down for everyone else.

I was looking for a bike for the DFC. Answered an ad for a bike in excellent condition - about 15 miles from me, for £35. When we got there, bloke wheels out bike. Seat is ripped. Wheels are rusted to hell. Gears so rusted they did not work. back brakes not working at all. Front brake locked on wheel. He was surprised that I passed on his "excellent" condition bike.

SOme gumtree folk are deluded about what their stuff is worth.

We sold a heavy metal shed.

Gut wanting to collect it, asked if it would go in the roof of his Ford Focus to drive the 60 miles down the M62 to where he lived. The day he wanted to collect the forecasts were predicting gale force winds.

Massive huge metal shed. Tiny Ford Focus 😨

I had been looking for a second hand wooden playhouse for the garden on Gumtree for maybe two years, as I wasn't prepared to pay the cost of a new one. They are very expensive for what they are.
Every one I went for had gone already so you had to be quick.
Finally I got in first and secured one for £90 in good nick. I could not have been more delighted!

So we quickly hired a van for an afternoon (£25) to pick this thing up...arrived at the arranged time, only to be told that he was sorry but his wife had sold it on the spot while he was out at B&Q.
Yes, apparently a family just showed up at the door and took it there and then. He was only out for half an hour too. Hmm

"A family?" I said, "What did they arrive in, that they could take a playhouse there and then...a bus?!"
I also expressed my admiration of this family's ability to dismantle and load up a playhouse in less than half an hour...before driving off in their...bus?

It was patently obvious this wanker had accepted a bigger offer and sacked me off.

"We hired a van." I told him.

He just mumbled, "sorry" and shut the door in my face.

Dh and I rowed all the way home. So that was a fun experience.

I've been getting rid of a bunch of stuff on gumtree recently, nearly all of it for free, and it's been ok for the most part. The really annoying thing is when I've sold/given away furniture I have clearly stated in the ad that I live in a 3rd floor flat, with no lift and I can't help you carry stuff because I'm pregnant. But people still message me with

"Can you deliver?"
"Sorry no, am pregnant and the massive wardrobe won't fit in my tiny car anyway"
"But my wife is in a wheelchair and it's her dying wish to get your shitty free wardrobe" or some thing similar. 🙄

There was one person who turned up about 6 hours late and my DH was freaking out that she was a burglar and was only coming to check our house out for valuables (he only decided this when she was really late. I just decided she wasn't coming and was about to re-list it). She called a couple of hours later, really apologetic, asked if it was ok to still come. DH was very stressed out she was going to rob us. She turned up in full police officer's uniform, had come straight from work because she felt for terrible letting us down being so late! Found it hilarious that DH could not have been more wrong about her being a massive criminal 😄

Someone was selling a travel cot for all of £3, yet someone still wanted to knock it down in price! It both scares me and amuses me at the same time.

Oh and people asking if you can deliver For Free items Hmm

I offered DS's little table snooker game on freegle, and got loads of replies. I picked the first one, and said if he texted me in the next 30 mins, he could have it. No text came. So I gave it to the next person who came and collected. Hours later person A texted and I said sorry it had gone now...and he sent me really vile four-lettered abuse until I blocked his number. I reported him to freegle and they blocked him, too.

What is it with some people?

Have to say, all my other experiences have been good, apart from people not showing up.

Slightly off topic, but it reminds me of when my (very odd) mum offered me a bed she had bought but never used. No thanks I said. So about every week she says "I want you to have that bed". No thanks I said. Then next time she says "Will you come and collect it"? No. over months and months.... "I have looked into hiring a van".... No. "You could get someone to collect and deliver it" No. I don't need it thanks. Why don't you sell it? I'll help you put it on Ebay etc. "Oh no, I don't want people coming to the house".
Finally: "I am arranging to have it delivered to you". That's very kind of you but I don't need it and don't want it. Several rounds of this. Then, annoyed tone "No I'm not being kind, I need the space and I want it taken away so I am sending it to you". DON'T YOU DARE SEND IT TO ME. I HAVE TOLD YOU TIME AND TIME AGAIN I DON'T WANT IT. I WILL NOT ACCEPT THE DELIVERY.
Then she acts all hurt.
She is now in a care home and the fecking bed is still in her spare room. FFS.

Advertised an IKEA Trofast toy storage unit on Facebook, complete with 5 (of the 6) boxes you can fit in it for £20. Free local delivery. Woman says she'd like it. Then messages me and asks me if the plastic boxes from Wilko fit in it. I respond 'no idea', and she says she doesn't want it any more as she doesn't drive and IKEA is too far away (it's three miles). Someone else asks if I can deliver it to her home which it soon transpires is not local. And she wants me to knock a fiver off the price. Hmm

First Facebook selling experience. May be my last.

Rotunda your caravan reminded me of my poor MIL - after FIL died she sold their much beloved and very well cared for caravan. One seemingly nice couple showed up, picked up very quickly that she was alone and a bit weepy over the sale and proceeded to try and bully her into accepting less than half. Thankfully she had the sense to phone her nephew, a HUGE chap, to come over and 'politely' tell them to feck off. Gits, she was very shaken.

On a lighter note - the Gumtree equivalent here had someone asking for a harp. For free. The mind boggles.

I had a huge pile of girls clothes thanks to some very enthusiastic relatives. It ended up being about 9 bin-liners worth and a very sweet girl turned up with her boyfriend to collect them. She had a smart car and when he got them in the car he realised he wouldn't fit in as well. She left us her boyfriend while she went home dropped off the bags.

She did come back and collect him.

I bought a toddler activity cube (mini plastic climbing frame for the garden) from eBay. My husband went in our Fiesta to get it as the time and date chosen by the seller. He found it was still built in 3D, even though she had said it was taken apart. On the front Lawn, so anyone could have nicked it. He had to take it apart with his keys, in the dark, so it would fit in the car.
