AIBU to be disappointed that not every ( active ) member of MN has not taken part in the Olympic committee's trans policy poll thread?

It would take two minutes & you have 3 choices - support, protest. abstain.

What's stopping everyone taking part?

A lot of people seem to think this thread is about the exact opposite of what it's really about!

SomeonesRealName · 29/01/2016 23:14

But I thought the whole point of the poll was to persuade MN to put it's weight behind a campaign, which I don't support. Is the aim to persuade MN to poll it's members?

Because I try to ignore the bizarre anti-trans diatribes infesting mumsnet in the hope they'll go away.

I "voted" op
I detest the vile use of Cis
I care more about loads of stuff. but the idea that I have to change ...nah
but I will now hide all threads with the T word in them as
I think mn is more that a few

ouryve · 29/01/2016 23:21

YABU. There are more than 1000 members of mumsnet, for a start.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 29/01/2016 23:22

Why is this thread still here? Surely it's a TAAT and mnhq delete those, right?

fidel1ne · 29/01/2016 23:26

Not really Someone. It was pretty obvious by the time I started the thread that MNHQ didn't want to get behind a campaign, but after they said opinion was 'mixed' I wanted to see if it was true.

An awful lot of MNers have joined the FB group from that thread (and the other threads) so it has achieved something. The FB group is now about 400 members strong and getting organized to campaign.

Samcro · 29/01/2016 23:26

how many "voting " threads will we have?

Thread is closed. Just tried to vote.

fidel1ne · 29/01/2016 23:29

It's not "voting" *Samcro". It's just a straw poll.

But I WILL make sure I sniff out the actual petition(s) when they're up and running and post the link(s) on the poll thread.

Samcro · 29/01/2016 23:30

there is a new one

Oh OK thanks for the explanation in that case I shall go vote. Opinion seems to be mixed only as between people who oppose the new guidelines and people who don't wish to engage with the issue at all for whatever reason. I have asked to join the fb group.

fidel1ne · 29/01/2016 23:33

Nah, it's not a TAAT, it's a TdirectingpeopletoaT.

Grin

Of course, if Trending was still Most Active, we wouldn't need this thread

So true

I hadn't realised there was a poll, I have seen several threads about it, was following one about a week ago but felt I understood the arguments and didn't want to read on and on about it. So, hadn't spotted that one of them was a poll. I have also followed numerous other trans threads but I dip in and out, and don't often post.

Fidel1ne · 29/01/2016 23:46

Maryz I don't want to do things to your blood pressure, but have you compared this thread to the five currently in 'trending'? Hmm

IronMaggie · 29/01/2016 23:46

I have to say I just don't understand the level of outrage on this issue. Im afraid I'm not at all well versed on the anti-trans stance that seems so popular on MN. I say this as an athlete (although I won't be competing at Rio), but this worries me so much less than many many other things.

tbh I think
that if this was not about sport.....there would be a better response.(not including mn hq)
if it was about women being called....cis
or women only spaces being lost.
I think more people would care....but
sport is mainly .....well out of most womens reach any way

fidel1ne · 29/01/2016 23:52

The striking thing about this Iron, is that most of us who are worried by the implications of the IOC policy weren't (and aren't) anti-trans at all. Personally, I've very rarely gone near a trans thread before this week.

Trans rights are absolutely great and fine until they come at a cost to women and women's rights.

As a female (I assume) athlete you're not worried about competing directly against men with one year of hormone treatment behind them, then?
