It would take two minutes & you have 3 choices - support, protest. abstain.

What's stopping everyone taking part?

OP posts:

It's up to me to decide whether I read, (and leave an opinion/vote) on a thread.

thelifeofamber · 29/01/2016 21:30

Yes I know in the great scheme of things this is probably 100th on most people's 'things to worry about' list - but we can't keep ignoring this issue we really can't.

Sure we can ignore it. There are so much more important things being ignored all the time.

Just because its a subject you are passionate about doesn't mean everyone has to be.

Natkingcole9 · 29/01/2016 21:35

I think what might be stopping people is that some of us are just sick to death of the whole subject of trans people

thats my reason

I never read MN trans threads because the rampant transphobia makes me too angry.

stopthecavalry · 29/01/2016 21:45

It's wider than sport.

It's a debate about women's spaces/rights being invaded/eroded and the difficulties around raising this as an issue.

If you have concerns about that then best not to leave it much longer. If not then not to worry.

If you're that bothered about women's rights why aren't you on the cologne attacks threads?

Veritat · 29/01/2016 21:57

YABU a lot of people don't want to post because they don't agree with the prevailing view and will be berated

Precisely

stopthecavalry · 29/01/2016 21:58

I rarely post on any thread.

Moved to post on here just to try to raise awareness of what the other thread was about as most people didn't seem to have picked that up. Up to each individual what threads they post on but the instant dismissal of the issue without really knowing specifically what the thread was about seemed really odd.

CallieTorres · 29/01/2016 22:00

I mean i dont like that I am now labled as a cis woman, i'm 'just' a woman, i don't need to have cis added on to that

call yourself what you like, doesnt bother me.

and this; And stop telling me as a woman what I should and shouldn't care about

FlankShaftMcWap · 29/01/2016 22:03

I absolutely protest the policy and think there must be a much better way of including trans people in sport than this. However, I utterly refuse to engage the issue on this forum due to the palpable and almost obsessive anti trans agenda on the boards. It is possible to discuss the erosion of the rights of women without being so thoroughly unpleasant about another vulnerable group. Thankfully I have other online spaces in which I feel more comfortable discussing the issue in a more measured, active and positive way.

Kirkenes · 29/01/2016 22:06

Sorry, it's just not on my radar. i also don't ever sign online petitions. I also find threads this off putting.

Kirkenes · 29/01/2016 22:08

The also daft to say it would take two minutes. I'd have to give it lots of thought and do research.

Wombatinabathhat · 29/01/2016 22:09

Beyond Thank you. I'll check it out tomorrow Thanks

228agreenend · 29/01/2016 22:09

The trams poll thread isn't alone, I instantly dismiss lots of threads depending on what I feel lik reading. Eg frivolous, serious, etc. I rarely read the political threads.

Theodolia · 29/01/2016 22:10

Exactly what Flankshaft said.

ewbank · 29/01/2016 22:13

Now, I would vote on a thread about trams. Yes I would.

AyeAmarok · 29/01/2016 22:17

Thanks for the link PurportedFeminist. I've now posted too.

I was on the first thread (outraged), but it moved too quickly for me so I didn't realise there was the poll.

manicinsomniac · 29/01/2016 22:19

Actually, I'm really pleased you started this thread. I rarely go in chat and wouldn't have seen the poll otherwise.

Thank you.

exLtEveDallas · 29/01/2016 22:22

I am another one purposely avoiding trans threads. Therefore didn't see the one in question. I understand the issue behind it, but would have continued to avoid it (as sick and tired of it all) had Maryz not calmly and politely explained what it was all about. Chastising, patronising and being disappointed in other MNers is a quick way to get a huge Fuck You Grin as well you know OP.

Highsteaks · 29/01/2016 22:40

I voted in the poll and have joined in a little on some of the threads to voice my concern about this.

But

What the actual fuck is this thread????

Ummmmm, YABU.

SomeonesRealName · 29/01/2016 23:06

Sorry to be thick but I don't feel I understand the poll question - are we saying we personally want to protest, or we want MN to protest? I don't support the policy and want to protest it but I don't feel I want MN to. How should I vote?

fidel1ne · 29/01/2016 23:09

In that case you're a 'protest' Someone Smile
