AIBU to be disappointed that not every ( active ) member of MN has not taken part in the Olympic committee's trans policy poll thread?

It would take two minutes & you have 3 choices - support, protest. abstain.

What's stopping everyone taking part?

Beyond Thank you for the explanation. I have an opinion but not enough to be bullied into taking part in a useless poll.

stopthecavalry · 29/01/2016 21:06

This is a very strange thread. It seems many people responding have no idea what the op is referring to and are just having a knee jerk response to the word 'trans'. Weird. Missing something important guys.

Scarletforya · 29/01/2016 21:06

Loads of people don't care about trans ishoos or sport.

cardibach · 29/01/2016 21:07

I'm not sure what this poll hopes to achieve. It's just people commenting. I might be bothered to respond to something more official.

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 21:07

gamer it shows a lack of knowledge of the debate to refer to the anti-trans lobby as being 'aggressive'

Trans activists regular wish rape and death on 'TERFS' and their children. Addresses, phone numbers and workplaces have been published to facilitate abuse

I've been involved in the debate since 2012 and the most 'aggressive' anti trans thing I have read is that trans women are men Confused

HumptyDumptyHadaHardTime · 29/01/2016 21:08

Missing something important guys.

In your opinion. People have the right to disagree with you.

You don't get to decide what is and isn't important to other people.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 29/01/2016 21:08

I love certain sports but women's sport sucks - whether the participants are biologically women or not it's still going to suck.

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 21:10

To be clear though, I have no interest in trans issues. Yes, the subject bores me.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 29/01/2016 21:10

If you did want to discuss it wombat, there are two threads running atm apart from the poll, one in site stuff amd one in aibu (i'd go with the aibu one, theres more discussion)

The people (imo) discussing it have no problem being told why it is a good thing. The only niggle we've had is people saying its good but not explaining (or just coming in and shouting that we are all transphobes). We cant understand the alternate viewpoint if noone tells us what it is! Grin

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 21:10

I agree cavalry

CallieTorres · 29/01/2016 21:11

Callie, what do you mean, you don't like this cis thing?

stopthecavalry · 29/01/2016 21:14

Humpty - most of us are women - yes? So women's rights are important to us - yes? That is what this is all about.

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 21:17

Although surfer despite a very clear declaration of disinterest on this thread, there has been consistent polling on the other thread, which is now almost full. So that's good

lljkk · 29/01/2016 21:18

FFS, I'm bored with this topic. (And a few dozen others that are soapboxes and even formally designated campaigns on MN, I have so many obnoxious opinions and apathy, you don't even really want support from me...)
I agree that sports should be done on biology not gender ID divisions. When there's a real opportunity to meaningfully cast that vote I'll do it. But no interest whatsoever in MN hand-wringing.

MidniteScribbler · 29/01/2016 21:18

I looked at the first two pages then got bored of scrolling through the same word hundreds of times. If there's interesting discussions on a topic I'll read it, but set up a proper poll or petition.

And stop telling me as a woman what I should and shouldn't care about.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 29/01/2016 21:20

A lot more people have now posted on the poll thread, so it obviously wasnt umm, obvious enough to them before. Which goes back to maryz issue with trending active threads and also to the people who said they wont click on anything with trans in the title.

Once more for luck Wink its not a trans issue, its a womens issue

ewbank · 29/01/2016 21:21

MN hand wringing

Yes, exactly this.

SurferJet · 29/01/2016 21:22

That's great news!

& thank you everyone for taking the time to reply. I'm sorry I wasn't perfectly clear in my opening post & for not providing the appropriate link ( was posting in a slight hurry ) but thanks again.

Each individual sport makes its own regulations.

Thanks. I think most people, including me, had overlooked that rather significant detail.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 29/01/2016 21:25

Good work op, lots more activity on the polling thread. I think it's important, although realistically what can a MN thread do?

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 21:25

lljkk the point of the poll, I think, was to demonstrate the strength of feeling to MN. As they had expressed that opinion was divided.

I think the OP, had expressed the wish for amn MN campaign. MNHQ have commented to say that isn't happening as it is polarising. But they are trying to organise webchats with Olympic IOC, Maria Miller, Clare Balding and others to try and get voices heard. It seems the panel that made this decision did not have an advocate for women and consisted mostly of men and trans-women/advocates

Nottodaythankyouorever · 29/01/2016 21:26

And stop telling me as a woman what I should and shouldn't care about

That about sums it up.

ShortcutButton · 29/01/2016 21:28

I don't think anyone is telling you to care; but asking you to care
