It would take two minutes & you have 3 choices - support, protest. abstain.

What's stopping everyone taking part?

OP posts:

Many shops also now have common (male/female) fitting areas.

I was in two yesterday. Trying on clothes. It's not a problem.

pissedoff which I think, really, was OPs point....if those people who are really fed up/disinterested etc had registered an abstain vote; there would be a much truer reflection of feelings on the subject

Lweji · 31/01/2016 12:56

Yes, but they didn't know...
And you weren't inside with them.

So, what would the problem be if a man went into a fitting room if you "were there"?
And, presumably, other people are there, or go in and out randomly?

Grown men being around children is a risk we take every day. I take it every time my 11 year old goes into the men's public toilets.

It's not the end of the world and certainly not worth getting all worked up for a man entering a fitting room.

Yes, but we are not all sheep and we are certainly not obliged to pander to the OP's whim of having a poll on the subject on MN.

Really llewji, I think 11 years old is a good age for kids to start doing stuff like that

I know lots of 11/12 year olds that get the bus in to town with their mates

At what age do you think kids are mature enough to handle finding a man and his unexpected exposed penis in the locker room?

FaFoutis · 31/01/2016 13:00

YABU. I would vote to cancel the olympics if that is an option. I'm sure most trans people have better things to do.

ShortcutButton · 31/01/2016 13:01

No llewji no ones obliged to do anything, you are right. Its odd that posters see it as a big act of rebellion to 'not give a shit'

Well, there you go. I'll continue to campaign, so will others. Many will continue to not give a shit. And the world will keep on turning Smile

My point was that if boopsy was that worried that a man walked in the fitting room while they were there, then maybe it's not yet time to let them go shopping by themselves...

Basically, I'm saying boopsy would be greatly overreacting by this description:
They went in a clothes shop to try on clothes, all fine. However if I saw some bloke in a wig breeding in there after them I would be there like a shot and probably take them out as I would never be aloud to demand he should leave, Because he has rights and my DD and her friend dont.

Lweji · 31/01/2016 13:05

It's not at all. But it's annoying when we simply go on about with our lives and then suddenly a random person on MN is disappointed because not everybody on MN posted on her thread. FGS.

Don't make things up.

Lweji · 31/01/2016 13:06

FFS, what do you think men do in fitting rooms?

Also, did you not read my post about mixed fitting rooms?

It's not exactly lingerie shops. Just normal clothes.

Lighten up.

I haven't even given my opinion on trans entering or not the Olympics.

I just don't care about random polls on MN. Any of them, in fact.

Lweji · 31/01/2016 13:08

Do the fitting rooms you go into not have curtains?

Unless you saw him entering the actual fitting booth, then yes, you are over reacting. Massively.

My boy would be as much at risk as your DD.

He goes alone into fitting rooms too. Toilets even. Changing rooms at the swimming pool.

FrankNstein · 31/01/2016 13:12

I normaly believe everything I read in the Daily Mail, but a quick check around.

Here's a link to some more info about Colleen Francis.

www.transadvocate.com/colleen-francis-and-the-infamous-evergreen-state-college-incident_n_10765.htm

And who are the Defending Freedon group quoted?

Well, it turns out they are a homophobic group.

'The Southern Poverty Law Center has said that "The ADF has a record of anti-gay bigotry." and "Today, the group is increasingly committed to international anti-LGBT work."[48] The SPLC has also accused the Alliance Defending Freedom for assisting the group Belize Action in its campaign to preserve Section 53 of the Belize criminal code which recommends a 10-year prison sentence for homosexual acts.[49][50]'

So, you never go to the beach with your DD?

What if he did catch a glimpse of her in underwear?

He'd have to be a paedophile to be a danger. Which means that the risk is pretty much the same for my DS in a fitting room.

And she wasn't even alone. She was with a friend. Really. Stop panicking about this stuff.

I'm not making stuff upb lwreji

You said the above quote. Referring to those who don't post, as 'not sheep' certainly infers that you consider it a rebellious stand point

There's definitely been a number of posters saying they don't like being 'told what to think/do/care about'

Again, no one is telling anybody anything. We are asking for people to look at the implications for women

BeautyIsTruth · 31/01/2016 13:22

Veritat I completely agree with you. I can't read most of the trans threads on here as they do bad things to my blood pressure. Not this thread but others I've read in the past my face has been like this....Shock Shock Shock

I can't imagine anyone would be fine with a stranger flapping their bits about in front of kids, whether it's a penis, vulva or whatever. That's nothing to do with being trans and everything to do with being a creepy weirdo.

That said, I can understand why women are uncomfortable with people with a penis being in women's prisons, changing rooms etc. Perhaps there should be a rule that only post surgery trans are allowed in there but I don't know how you would police that in a changing room.

Does anyone know what the hijras in India do in regards to changing rooms and prisons?
