Well I'm on one this last week or so with household chores..how do you sort your washing? Christ I need to get out more (been housebound with flu)
DH says I'm ridiculous as I use the following categories (he just bungs everything in together, like Widow Twankys wash service). All our stuff is also washed with dettol laundry cleanser (another thing that irritates him no end)..

colours - eg tops, trousers on a 30 wash
pants - 70 wash
socks - 70 wash
bath towels - 70 wash
tea towels and dish cloths - 90 wash

OP posts:
somewheresomehow · 26/01/2016 21:16

whites/towels 60
mainly black
light coloured
dark coloured all at 40
bedding 60 or 40 depending on colour fastness
Ds stuff on its own at 40

glueandstick · 26/01/2016 21:19

Whites
Blues
Darks
Pinks

All at 30.

Whites - 40
Colours - 40
Darks - 40
Towels - 90

I usually do bedding at 40 too, but after reading this thread am considering doing it at 60 - is there a reason why I should?

shazzarooney99 · 26/01/2016 21:27

Just everything goes on a 40 wash here lol

SparklyTinselTits · 26/01/2016 21:30

Whites (if I remember to separate them): on a 40c wash with that vanish gold stuff to make it extra white and sparkly Grin

Darks/colours/the forgotten whites: on a 40c wash without the vanish stuff but I pre-treat any stains with it before the wash

All baby clothes: 60c wash with vanish

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 26/01/2016 21:31

I do separate loads of

whites
darks
colours
delicates
towels
bedding

but only because there's enough of each to make a full load. All at 40 apart from the delicates which are 30.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 26/01/2016 21:32

I am ruthless about colour segregation

if I haven't a full load then blues/greens/browns may mingle,

ditto pinks/reds/purples

whites

black/grey

denims

bedding

towels/tea towels

dog bedding

bedding/towels/tea towels/dog bedding ....all 60 or 90
whites 60/90
colours 40/60 if really filthy
denim 40 or 60 if I want to freak out dh by shrinking his jeans.

TimeToMuskUp · 26/01/2016 21:32

I wash the dog's bed at 60 with dettol liquid because, frankly, she's a dirty great ape. Ditto the DCs things, for similar reasons. Everything else gets done at 40.

Bedding is done on a hot wash specifically for bath and bed, no idea what temp it is, must be hot though as DS1's mucky grubby sheets come out lovely and fluffy.

Topseyt · 26/01/2016 21:38

Usually everything bunged in together on 40 degrees here.

I've always done it that way and never had a problem.

Life is too short to spend it sorting laundry more than necessary.

Ginkypig · 26/01/2016 21:40

Whites (hardly ever as not much) 30/40

Colours/darks including all undies even white ones :-) all together 30/40

Bedding/towels 30/40

Miscellaneous like bath mat, shower curtain, cat blanket etc 30/40

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 26/01/2016 21:40

Whites - 40, occasionally 60 if especially grubby
Colours - 40
Sheets/towels - 60 out of habit
Maintenance wash - 90

I say out of habit for the 60 degree washes, as I have read that most machines don't actually reach 60 even when set at it and it's the type of detergent you use that makes the difference WRT germ killing.

No fabric conditioner and preferably no fragranced detergent for me either, I like my washing to just smell clean, not scented.

Ginkypig · 26/01/2016 21:41

Oh and dp does his own :-)

Topseyt · 26/01/2016 21:41

Should add that I do wash the dog bedding separately, and then put the machine on a rinse cycle while empty in order to get rid of the dog hair.

That is the sum total of my sorting.

Soooosie · 26/01/2016 21:43

Why do you use dettol in every wash. Seems obsessive!!

I do lights, darks. Everything at 30 and a quick wash for the environment. Will do longer cycles and dettol wash if needed - which isn't often.

QOD · 26/01/2016 21:46

I shove everything in together at 30
darks lights undies whatever
Only separate new dark stuff

29redshoes · 26/01/2016 21:48

I'm surprised at all the people who wash at 70/90. I worry I'm damaging the clothes and/or making the planet cry if I do that.

I do:

Bedding/underwear/socks/towels at 60
Whites at 40
Colours at 30 on a quick(er) wash

I used to separate out the white bedding/underwear but DH took over all the washing when I had first trimester sickness a few months ago. He shoved it all in with coloured stuff so it's a bit grey now anyway and there's no point in separating it. Have to admit it's quite liberating!

Comingfoccacia · 26/01/2016 21:48

Whites and lights together 40
Darks 30
Sometimes do towels and bedding on 60 but usually don't bother
Try to be as eco as possible

You are all so lucky - I take mine down the river (10c) & trample on them.

Won't someone think of my feet?

(and the children/goats/ sky tv?)

TheExMotherInLaw · 26/01/2016 21:53

ordinary whites & white towels w stain remover wash at 40
half load Teatowels & flannels, etc w stain remover at 90
dh dark, grubby stuff, w stain remover, long 40 or 50
my ordinary dark stuff gentle short 40
bedding 40/50/60, depending
woollens/bras/delicates 40
well, once I eventually get my new washer, probably next week - already had to get a new exhaust for dh car this week!
sigh

"When we met up six months later the difference in her daughter's clothes to mine was really noticeable: hers were muddy and mine were still bright."

Which matters because....?
