Well I'm on one this last week or so with household chores..how do you sort your washing? Christ I need to get out more (been housebound with flu)
DH says I'm ridiculous as I use the following categories (he just bungs everything in together, like Widow Twankys wash service). All our stuff is also washed with dettol laundry cleanser (another thing that irritates him no end)..

colours - eg tops, trousers on a 30 wash
pants - 70 wash
socks - 70 wash
bath towels - 70 wash
tea towels and dish cloths - 90 wash

OP posts:

Darks-60
Whites-90
Colours-60
Delicates-Handwash
All done as and when I have a full load. There is a wash done most days.
If I wash stuff at less than 60 I find they need washed again, just doesn't get the dirt out-housefull of footy boys!

ICJump · 27/01/2016 09:56

Washing quick wash 40
Nappies rinse, long wash 40
Towel 60 (if I do all the towels at once but often bunged in with washing)

I used to sort but just can't be bothered

purplefizz26 · 27/01/2016 10:35

Literally everything clothes wise in one 30 wash. I don't faff with separate colours Blush

Towels and bedding each have separate 40 washes.

Postchildrenpregranny · 27/01/2016 10:43

Why do people do towels and bedlinen at 90? Surely they can't be very dirty?
I have for years done everything at 40.We have very little white washing so I don't sort
I tend to wash new woollens by hand but might put them through on a delicates/cold wash if a lot are dirty at the same time Only thing I use fabric softener on is wool or cashmere .

Birdsgottafly · 27/01/2016 10:54

"Why do people do towels and bedlinen at 90? ""

That was the reconmendation when I was younger (I'm 47), research showed that some Bacteria can survive 60.

I worked in the Care Sector (dealt with all bodily fluids), didn't get sick pay, so carried out a 'infection control' at home.

I also couldn't take time off (Widowed LP), without losing pay.

I now have Lupus, I've been wiped out by Pneumonia in the past and have had it done October, now, so I'm just careful.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 27/01/2016 10:55

Lights 40
Darks 30 or 40
Towels on the odd occasion 60

Birdsgottafly · 27/01/2016 10:55

I sleep naked, as well.

Postchildrenpregranny · 27/01/2016 10:56

The only stuff I might put through on a boil wash would be tea towels but as we have a dishwasher they don't get used much/get dirty. And oven gloves .I just bleach/discard dishcloths.Am horrified at the energy and additives used by some people .

hellsbellsmelons · 27/01/2016 11:42

Lights - 30 minute wash
Darks - 30 minute wash
DP work stuff - 60 degree wash
Bedding and towels - 60 degree wash

Gatehouse77 · 27/01/2016 12:12

Whites, darks, light - 40
Bedding - 60
Towels/cleaning cloths - 60

Every couple of months or so I do a 90 wash with bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar and tea tree oil on an empty.

ChampaleSocialist · 27/01/2016 12:16

Coloured long wash 60 degrees. (bedding and towels)
Coloured medium wash 40 degrees. (jeans, tees, pants)
Coloured short wash half hour. Delicates, not dirty stuff.

LaChatte · 27/01/2016 12:20

Blues, liquid, 40°
Reds, liquid, 40°
Whites, powder, 40°

SevenOfNineTrue · 27/01/2016 12:22

Whites 60
Blacks 30
Light colours 30
Dark colours 30

CakeNinja · 27/01/2016 12:26

I'm with your DH on the Widow Twanky approach I'm afraid.
Everything dumped in all together. Lights, whites, darks, coloured, mix of fabrics, the works, all in at 50.
Towels and bedding goes on at 60 and if we all have white sets on that get washed at the same time, they go on a boil wash with dishcloths.
I do 2 loads a day, we all have clubs/gym pretty much daily so sweaty clothes and gym towels in addition to normal day clothes, dp is a plumber, Ds is a toddler, clothes need washing regularly!

CraftyMissus · 27/01/2016 12:37

Almost everything of mine at 30. I don't split out colours unless I think something's going to run.

Handwash items are handwashed... Gather a few, fill bath tub and go nuts. Rinse with shower!

Only items split into fully separate wash are DHs work shirts (after he once managed to do the new red sock in white laundry)

Towels and bedding at 60.

Once a fortnight hottest wash setting & white vinegar sloshed into washer.

iPaid · 27/01/2016 13:16

Am I the only one whose washing machine doesn't have a heating dial above 60?

Pengweng · 27/01/2016 13:18

Whites - 60 wash once a week - consists of the DTs school shirts and their vests and towels.
Towels and bedding - 60 wash - once a week
Black/Dark (i.e. navy school jumpers and trousers) - 40 wash
Colours - 40 wash

I won't do a load unless it is full and do 4-5 loads a week for a family of 4.

SurlyValentine · 27/01/2016 13:34

Darks (including denim and dark socks and pants) at 40, with fabric conditioner and half a scoop of stain remover powder.

Whites/lights (including white socks and pants) at 40 with fabric conditioner and a full scoop of stain remover powder.

Delicates (including bras and anything else that I think might go weird at 40) at 30, with half a scoop of stain remover powder.

Towels at 60, without fabric conditioner or stain remover powder.

Bedding at 60, with fabric conditioner and either a full or half scoop of stain remover powder, depending on how long it's been on the bed slattern

Stuff for handwashing is handwashed in the sink, then rinsed and spun in the washer with a bit of fabric conditioner.

Maintenance wash done about once every two months with a bit of bleach in the washer drawer, but keep meaning to buy white vinegar to use instead.

I hate it when DP does any washing, as it's invariably the wrong stuff he's washed, or it's only half a load.

LittleBeautyBelle · 27/01/2016 14:56

Lights
Darks
Brights
Towels
Bedding
Kitchen stuff

I usually wait until there's enough kitchen dishcloths and dishtowels in the laundry bag in the kitchen closet to make a small load, so once a week I guess.

All our bedding is light or pastel so it doesn't have to be sorted. I don't think I would sleep well in dark bedding or dark nightclothes. I like all the beds in the house to be cloud-like and light colored.

arethereanyleftatall · 27/01/2016 14:59

My goodness.

Everything all mixed up. 30 degrees.

Grapejuicerocks · 27/01/2016 15:04

Whites
Darks
Wool
All at 30. We are all healthy.

WhoisLucasHood · 27/01/2016 15:05

Whites 60 (includes bedding and towels)
Lights 60 (40 when DH does it)
Darks 40
I have 3 baskets so no real sorting required.

Kim82 · 27/01/2016 15:11

Darks at 40
Pinks/reds at 40
Whites at 40
Towels at 60
Bed sheets at 60
Dh also has a few bits that need to go in on a cold wash so they all go in together once a week.

HermioneJeanGranger · 27/01/2016 15:13

Lights - 90
Darks - 60
Wools - 30
DP's work uniform - 60/90 depending.

Towels and bedding goes in with normal wash.

MaxPepsi · 27/01/2016 15:17

Not sure what the heat settings are on my washing machine, but I do separate:

Whites
Towels (inc bath mat)
Dark (mainly DH's clothes)
Colours (mainly my stuff)
Bedding
Delicates (always my stuff)
Dog Towels

Whites and bedding go on a hot wash.
Delicates go on a silk wash
All other things go on a 'normal' wash whatever that is!

Always use the same powder, never use fabric conditioner and sometimes use vanish.
