Well I'm on one this last week or so with household chores..how do you sort your washing? Christ I need to get out more (been housebound with flu)
DH says I'm ridiculous as I use the following categories (he just bungs everything in together, like Widow Twankys wash service). All our stuff is also washed with dettol laundry cleanser (another thing that irritates him no end)..

colours - eg tops, trousers on a 30 wash
pants - 70 wash
socks - 70 wash
bath towels - 70 wash
tea towels and dish cloths - 90 wash

OP posts:
MistressDeeCee · 28/01/2016 00:59

Whites bedding towels underwear 70. Everything else 40 or 30

Seren85 · 28/01/2016 01:18

White wash/dark wash/colours wash on 40 (or the 45 min quick wash setting)
Bedding on 60
Woolens on wool setting

Tessabelle74 · 29/01/2016 15:11

Everything here goes on a 40. No fancy beads, no fancy anti bac etc! We're not dead yet :)

PuntCuffin · 29/01/2016 15:18

Everything except delicates (wool/silk) chucked in at 40 with a colour catcher. Never used to believe they worked, but they do.
No dettol, no biological powders, no beads, no perfumes, no faffing. Life is too short.

6o6o842 · 30/01/2016 06:12

Lights washed at 30
Darks washed at 30
Towels washed at 60
Bedding washed at 60
All hung on the line to dry in the bright sunshine

Agent160 · 30/01/2016 09:20

Lights/whites - 40 cotton
Darks/colours - 40 cotton
Towels - 60 cotton + tumble dry
Bedding - 60 cotton
Some Jumpers - cold wool wash/hand wash (not very often required)
DH football kit - 40 synthetic
Dish clothes - through dishwasher and then washed at 90

Are the scented beads any good? I was shocked the first time I saw the advert - they are basically saying "turns out the fabric conditioner we've been flogging you for years is shit, so buy this to make it work".

PrimalLass · 30/01/2016 09:34

My plan for separating the washing is:

Mine and DD's stuff - 40 degrees with Fairy non bio
OH and DS's stuff - 40/60 with Arial (Fairy non bio does nothing with sweat or mud)

Towels, bedding, cloths etc as and when.

Dungandbother · 31/01/2016 09:01

My sister is a bunger

I am a sorter. Dark, light, white. Cleaning cloths, bedding, towels. Jeans.

Her clothes and her kids clothes are always 'muddy' to coin a phrase used up thread. She has a DD (as do I) so their clothes are bright and colourful. Once. Not anymore.

Also, our younger brother has the smallest daughter. Guess whose hand me downs get worn? (Not Dsis)

Coldlightofday · 31/01/2016 09:09

Woah. CAN DRY CLEAN ONLY STUFF BE WASHED?? Why do I not know this?

For the record, everything else gets bunged in together.

OzzieFem · 31/01/2016 10:48

My machine has three settings. Cold, Warm (tepid), and Hot (hot, hot, Ow!)

Cotton underpants, socks and towels go in the hot wash and left soaking for several hours.
Bedlinen, blankets (yes, even the wool ones) and duvets get a hot wash but no soaking time.
All the rest get chucked in together on either the cold or warm cycle unless I know the colours will run. They get washed separately, but I try to avoid buying these. It always seems to be the dark blue or green that is a problem.

HackerFucker22 · 31/01/2016 10:55

White towels once a week on a 90c, same with coloured towels.
Bed linen once a week 90c (x 2 lots)
Colours 3 times a week 40c or 60c
Whites twice a week 60c

Thankfully I love doing laundry!!

HackerFucker22 · 31/01/2016 10:57

I don't do a separate wash for underwear or socks.

Kbear · 31/01/2016 11:02

I have just realised I don't have anything white in my wash... ever.

The only thing I handwash are DD's dance tights so they stay pink.

Towels separate on 40.
Bedding separate on 60.

I do the kids stuff separately cos they each have a washing basket in their rooms and it's easier to put away.

Who has time for doing individuals washes for brown and greens etc? If it's dark it goes in together. If it's light I don't buy it haha

londonrach · 31/01/2016 11:04

All at 30/40 but separate into...

Colours (95% of what i wash)
Work shirts
Whites (once a while)
Jumpers (wool or handwash but again once a while)

All with conditioner apart from the jumpers. Hate towels without conditioner as have memories of childhood with scatty towels.

londonrach · 31/01/2016 11:06

Just remembered my white nhs work tunics are washed separately to everything else at 60.

OohMavis · 31/01/2016 11:19

I don't understand, I was taught to fill the washing machine to capacity or face the wrath of the devil himself.

How can you possible justify a whole entire washing cycle for some socks? Or pants? Pants are tiny. What a massive waste of water Hmm

INeedACheeseSlicer · 31/01/2016 11:34

Whites at 40 with bio powder and fabric conditioner.

Red,pink, purple, orange, yellow at 40 with colour powder and conditioner
Blue, green, grey at 40 with colour powder and conditioner
Black, dark grey at 40 with colour powder and conditioner
All the above only when there is enough for a full load.

Towels, flannels and coloured tea-towels at 60 with colour powder once a week
Coloured bedding at 60 with colour powder and conditioner.
White bedding and white tea towels at 60 with bio powder and conditioner, after the white bedding has been on the beds a week - I try and coordinate so all the beds have either coloured or white each week, so we have fewer different loads.

Wool, cashmere, silk and delicates. Once in a blue moon, on the wool setting of the machine (think it is a cold wash, not sure) with special wool detergent.

OzzieFem · 31/01/2016 13:14

OohMavis I don't understand, I was taught to fill the washing machine to capacity or face the wrath of the devil himself.

If you were referring to my post, they don't get washed separately. Underpants, socks and towels get washed together. Smile

HighwayDragon1 · 31/01/2016 13:18

Everything in together at 40° never had a running problem

Noshowofmojo · 31/01/2016 14:09

Whites/lights 40
Colours 40
😊

HelsBels22 · 31/01/2016 21:57

I'll be shot for this but I can tell the people who separate clothes out and those that don't.
Greyish whites and bobbly tops are not great looks. Why pay good money and then not look after your clothes?

sleeplessinmybedroom · 01/02/2016 07:38

I am shocked that people feel the need to wash pants and socks separately what a waste of time and water. Do you not realise the function of a washing machine is to wash clothes so they are clean?

I seperate into
Colours
Darks
Whites
Bedding

Bedding, towels and anything that the baby has got poo on go on a 60, the rest is 40.

SquadGoals · 01/02/2016 08:16

Per week, we do

1 x whites at 30
2 x colours at 30
1 x towels at 60
1 x bedding at 60

HippyPottyMouth · 01/02/2016 09:00

Whites
Lights
Brights
Darks
Towels
Bedding (although DD's goes in with whites or lights)

Some mixing of whites/light or light/brights depending on actual colours and how much I need to make up a load. All on 40 unless there's sick involved, in which case it's 60 with a capful of disinfectant thrown in.

ohtheholidays · 01/02/2016 09:42

Colours including towels together on a 40.
Whites in together on a 40.
Bedding in together on a 40.

Tea towels,sponges(for cleaning)cloths in together on a 40.
3 times a week a large throw the dogs lay on goes on on a 60 and then I give the washing machine a quick wash(to clean it out)on a 40.

There's 7 of us,I do 3 loads of washing every day and 6- 7 loads every Friday when the 6 beds are stripped.
