Travelling Business class on flight this morning which has seat arrangement of two seats with spare one between turned into a table. Had sat down when a mum arrived with toddler and demanded I remove my papers etc from the table as her child wanted to sit there. I told her it was not a seat which provoked much pouting and comments about she always did this, book a seat with child on lap and then move child into spare seat. I referred this to the crew who agreed with me and told the parent if she had paid for only one seat then child sits on lap for flight. I had comments all the way about the nasty lady who wouldn't let little Johnny have a seat. WIBU to do this.

Crew apologised as I left and gave me some Champagne so not all bad.

Yanbu, she just didn't want to pay for two business clAss seats.

goodnightdarthvader1 · 26/01/2016 15:32

To be fair the woman with child does sound like she might be a special sort of tool.

OH YEAH!

whois · 26/01/2016 15:33

YANBU it's not a spare seat that's up for grabs like in economy. It's space that you've paid for, to travel in more comfort and be better able to work.

Nottodaythankyouorever · 26/01/2016 15:35

Some people do think that because they have DC when they say jump everyone should shout how high.

I have never behaved like that with mine.

YANBU. The muttering would have got me angry too.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/01/2016 15:37

She wanted you to give up the space that you had paid extra for, for her child to sit in? Cheeky mare and yes, a special kind of tool

If she had asked I might have been more inclined but demanding never cuts much ice with me.

Some people really do shoot themselves in the foot, don't they?

LeaLeander · 26/01/2016 15:40

It's not a seat. Good for you for standing up for yourself (and by extension other travelers), OP!

Katenka · 26/01/2016 15:40

Yanbu why would you pat business class fares to sit next to a toddler

I don't understand that. Toddlers fly in business class all the time.

Why would you assume there wouldn't be a toddler flying in business class?

DaisyDando · 26/01/2016 15:41

YANBU
I quite like children and I wouldn't have liked that.

Leelu6 · 26/01/2016 15:41

Had a look on Google but couldn't see this table/spare seat arrangement in BC. Anyone have a pic?

AnotherTimeMaybe · 26/01/2016 15:43

Hmm You don't own the plane! You don't pay for the plane just for a sit......
SevenOfNineTrue · 26/01/2016 15:43

YANBU Sounds a cheeky mare to me.

CallieTorres · 26/01/2016 15:44

what airline were you flying with?

AnotherTimeMaybe · 26/01/2016 15:44

OP I flew club Europe a few times with ds and some lovely chap next to me always allowed me to do this.... I agree though you have to ask nicely, not sure why she thought she'd get away with being nasty...

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 26/01/2016 15:45

Yanbu.

Toddlers are welcome in business class either on a paid for seat or on someone's lap if they're young enough.

A lot of people in business would want to work I guess so why should you move your work papers? Which I guess would mean the toddler would be more encroaching on your space?? Dunno, never flown business so I have no idea of the set up.

Luckygirlcharlie · 26/01/2016 15:45

YANBU.

Artandco · 26/01/2016 15:46

We have flown in business and first win children since newborn. Would never do this

In fact we usually book extra if anything ie often Dh or I fly alone with two children and book 4 seats so x2 sets of two to save someone having being next to them

specialsubject · 26/01/2016 15:47

YANBU. Ickle preshus needs a seat, mummy pays for ickle preshus to have a seat.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 26/01/2016 15:47

YANBU. It's not sold as a seat

It was BA, they have a fold up table that can be pulled down for Club Europe passengers. Has indentations for drinks to fit in.

Was a huge treat that work had paid for this for me so keen to make the most of it.

Saw this on BA at Christmas - business class seemed to be very similar to economy, except the middle seat of the three had a table that went across at arm rest height. Just a little bit extra space for you to spread out into.

Of course yanbu. She was being ridiculous.
