Seating in business class on flight today.

Travelling Business class on flight this morning which has seat arrangement of two seats with spare one between turned into a table. Had sat down when a mum arrived with toddler and demanded I remove my papers etc from the table as her child wanted to sit there. I told her it was not a seat which provoked much pouting and comments about she always did this, book a seat with child on lap and then move child into spare seat. I referred this to the crew who agreed with me and told the parent if she had paid for only one seat then child sits on lap for flight. I had comments all the way about the nasty lady who wouldn't let little Johnny have a seat. WIBU to do this.

Crew apologised as I left and gave me some Champagne so not all bad.

she behaved really poorly- the brass neck!

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 26/01/2016 16:26

Is the table fixed to the sides?

The woman wasn't suggesting perching her kid on top of that tray for the duration of the journey surely? Shock

Mistigri · 26/01/2016 16:28

How did she get away with not booking a seat? Usually you have to book a seat for a toddler.

But anyway YWDNBU, and I'm surprised that airlines let her use the middle seat in business class. I've seen people try that on BA flights, and the cabin staff always say no.

GingerMerkin · 26/01/2016 16:29

There is a button which can be pressed to push the table up. The mother seemed very familiar with all the workings of the seat plans.

Child did try and crawl on the floor and crew made mother hold him on her lap.

Mistigri under twos travel on your lap. You can choose to book if you wish.

Did she really say, "I demand you move your things"?

GingerMerkin · 26/01/2016 16:33

Said, that's my child's seat, move your stuff.

Righto

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 26/01/2016 16:38

Said, that's my child's seat, move your stuff.

If that's what/how she phrased it, I think a great, big FUCK OFF is in order.

mebbe it was Cats off on her holidays

PouletDePrintemps · 26/01/2016 16:39

So are flights the new supermarket check outs for such shenanigans then?

Nothing like this ever happens to me in real life.

Though I am going on a flight tomorrow so maybe this time. I will chuck DH out of the seat next to meet and hope to attract some crazy entitled type...

lorelei9 · 26/01/2016 16:42

That arrangement doesn't look like it's worth paying much extra for... The seat width is the same and the leg room is the same as economy, is that correct?

Is it really pricey?

MrsUltra · 26/01/2016 16:44

Would it have killed you to move some papers? You didn't have to but I would have.
This

venusinscorpio · 26/01/2016 16:49

The OP said she was only taking up half the table. Why should she move any more?

ComposHatComesBack · 26/01/2016 16:50

I don't think it would have killed her to move some papers, but it would have been awkward answering questions as to why she hadn't completed the work she needed to do using the extra space that her company had paid for.

'Sorry I let a toddler sit there as his mum was being a petulant arse, so the work isn't ready' probably won't cut it.

venusinscorpio · 26/01/2016 16:51

It didn't kill the mother to have her child sat on her lap, either.

FarrowandBallAche · 26/01/2016 16:52

She really called you a ' nasty lady ' to ' little Johnny '?

I don't believe that bit.

Salene · 26/01/2016 16:53

YANBU that said if I was the lady I would of sat with toddler on my lap, then asked you politely do you mind if my child sits on this spare seat

If you said no I would of said ok then but quietly thought to myself what a dick but would never of said anything or made a fuss

I think the lady demanding you was rude and she deserved you to say no

Leelu6 · 26/01/2016 16:53

MrsUltra

So if someone told you 'That's my child's seat, move your stuff', you would have meekly moved your papers off?

Oh yeah, I can hear an entire cabin digging their heels in with you Ginger

YANBU

venusinscorpio · 26/01/2016 16:57

Salene, the woman concerned wasn't any more entitled to the seat if she had asked politely. It was not her right. The OP needed to use the table, it is not sold as seating.

ImperialBlether · 26/01/2016 16:58

When the crew gave you champagne, did they give some to her, too? I'm trying to imagine them giving it to just one adult when there are two sitting there.

TheXxed · 26/01/2016 16:58

Laying it on a bit thicker aren't you OP.

GingerMerkin · 26/01/2016 16:59

I was given a bag with the champagne in when I left. Wasn't drinking on the flight as working.
