Travelling Business class on flight this morning which has seat arrangement of two seats with spare one between turned into a table. Had sat down when a mum arrived with toddler and demanded I remove my papers etc from the table as her child wanted to sit there. I told her it was not a seat which provoked much pouting and comments about she always did this, book a seat with child on lap and then move child into spare seat. I referred this to the crew who agreed with me and told the parent if she had paid for only one seat then child sits on lap for flight. I had comments all the way about the nasty lady who wouldn't let little Johnny have a seat. WIBU to do this.

Crew apologised as I left and gave me some Champagne so not all bad.

When you said no she put her child on the floor for a crawl about?? Hmm

GruntledOne · 26/01/2016 17:04

Would it have killed you to move some papers? You didn't have to but I would have.

I wouldn't. Why should the mother's wish to save money by not paying a ticket for a child seat trump the OP's right to use the facilities she's paid for?

Epilepsyhelp · 26/01/2016 17:05

It's not a spare seat salene it's part of the business class ticket price to have a little bit of table not an elbow next to you.

LeaLeander · 26/01/2016 17:05

Exactly.

MrsTerryPratchett · 26/01/2016 17:06

Laying it on a bit thicker aren't you OP.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 26/01/2016 17:06

It's not a seat so she shouldn't have even asked.

GruntledOne · 26/01/2016 17:07

Yanbu why would you pat business class fares to sit next to a toddler

I don't understand that. Toddlers fly in business class all the time

As I understand it, no-one is saying toddlers shouldn't fly in business class. The point is that you have paid a premium to have space between you and the next passenger and a table in that space; having done so, why should you have to deal with a toddler or indeed anyone else using the space that you have in effect paid for.

Obs2016 · 26/01/2016 17:14

I'd hate this. If I Rarely flew Business, was really looking forward to it and then had this woman ruin it for me, I would be upset.

I 'd complain that staff didn't have a word with her.

sunseeker66 · 26/01/2016 17:16

YANBU

How odd, it wasn't even a seat it's a table!!

What next people sitting cross legged on the tables on trains?

I had a neat pile of papers and a cheeky glass of champagne, took up half the space.

I was given a bag with the champagne in when I left. Wasn't drinking on the flight as working

Which was it OP? Confused

goodnightdarthvader1 · 26/01/2016 17:19

Ooooh. Inconsistencies.

expatinscotland · 26/01/2016 17:23

YANBU. I'd have told her to stick it. But according to some on MN, you should have offered her your money, your own seat, too, and stood up for the flight.

But, this is probably another one of those threads. Sigh.

plantsitter · 26/01/2016 17:31

You are unreasonable for using the expression 'Little Johnny' frankly.

daddyorchipsdaddyorchips · 26/01/2016 17:32

Very much doubt they are inconsistencies. You get a glass of champagne when you board which I imagine is what the Op is referring to on the table and then a bottle of champagne for the PITA she had to put up with on the flight.

GingerMerkin · 26/01/2016 17:33

Thank you Totty.

Just about to say this.

I guess the rest was because of entitled parent.

I confess to having used the middle seat in business class for a toddler BUT dh and I were in the two adjacent seats. Would never do it with a strange in one of the seats. Those were the days - now all of us pay adult fares and business class is only a dream...YANBU by the way.

Obs2016 · 26/01/2016 17:49

Up to what age/size is a child able to sit on a parents knee?

chemenger · 26/01/2016 17:51

They can be on your knee up to 2, I think (those days are long gone), but we usually bought a seat once they could sit safely, just for the extra room.

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/01/2016 17:57

What's wrong with "little Johnny", am I missing something?

Goingtobeawesome · 26/01/2016 17:58

I wonder what is going on with Johnny's mum for her to be such a rude madam.

Kirkenes · 26/01/2016 18:02

Yanbu. The lady was rude.
