To think that this is the end of women's athletics?

1000 replies

fidel1ne · 23/01/2016 21:38

And women's international sport generally?

Transgender competitors will be allowed to compete as the gender of their choosing pre-operatively and after just one year of hormone treatment.

We'll be the prostitutes too, men aren't suddenly going to start fancying them, however PC they think they are.

venusinscorpio · 26/01/2016 17:56

In terms of the Handmaids Tale. Jezebels, and all that.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 26/01/2016 18:21

I've never read the handmaids tale, though i know the gist of it. Just stuck it in my basket on ebay, ready for payday

fidel1ne · 26/01/2016 18:35

I think that's very astute and not tin foil hat at all Garlick, madly enough.

Imustgodowntotheseaagain · 26/01/2016 18:53

Plenty of men seem to fancy Tara Hudson, venus

oneowlgirl · 26/01/2016 18:56

I haven't read the Handmaids Tale either but Garlic's post seems scarily plausible.

Do you ever think there's an evil megalomaniac out there controlling everything & we're all just cogs in his game? Otherwise how has it come to this & why is no reasonable, powerful, sane person speaking up against this? Why are the mainstream so accepting?

I may need to step away from this thread as the reality & thoughts for the future are properly distressing me & it's actually making me feel very down about the future.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 26/01/2016 18:58

Imust, i imagine they might change their minds when confronted by Tara's meat and two veg though Grin

HumphreyCobblers · 26/01/2016 19:07

I absolutely relate to your last post oneowlgirl. It is so shocking that this has happened and no one (apart from all of you of course) in the mainstream media is seemingly bothered. It makes me feel a bit panicky. As if we could all wake up one day and find ourselves forbidden to hold bank accounts, like in the Handmaid's Tale. I mean, if this could happen, what on earth next?

fidel1ne · 26/01/2016 19:09

I think we're approaching peak 'something' not just peak-trans oneowlgirl. The scope of what it is permissible to say and how it is permissible to say it in public has become so narrow that there is a huge disconnect between public discourse and private thought.

Which is fuelling tension rather than dealing with it.

The whole language and conversation of the public sphere has been hijacked in quite a '1984' way.

Another link from the rabid pro life site which is very good Shock
Just stop scrolling at the end of the article in case of upsetting pictures on linked articles www.lifesitenews.com/opinion/the-danish-girl-people-arent-born-transgender-but-playing-dress-up-can-spar

WilLiAmHerschel · 26/01/2016 19:14

Garlic I've been thinking about The Handmaids Tale a lot recently. I've not wanted to mention it because I know how paranoid it sounds. I've already decided I'll work in the brothel when the time comes; although it's high risk it seems to come with lots of freedom. (Only half joking).

ShortcutButton · 26/01/2016 19:15

Its crazy what they put Caster Semenya through
And then ruled that men can compete as women, anyway

On a totally different note, Mumsnet; I am not happy that in account details I am required to indicate my gender as male or female. Please can you change that to SEX; Or add more buttons so I can choose agender/pangender/gender-fluid/genderqueer/fuckgender/prefer not to say

ShortcutButton · 26/01/2016 19:16

But 1984 also sounded paranoid

JessicasRabbit · 26/01/2016 19:19

disconnect between public speech and private thought

This was my major concern with hate speech legislation. There is no absolute right to free speech in the uk, and we are being more and more constrained by self-appointed 'politically correct' ideologues (like Maria Millar, WEP etc). Now I have no wish to say anything which would fall foul of hate speech legislation. But I really don't think that we should have been so quick to criminalise spoken words.

I always liked "I disagree with what you're saying, but will defend to the death your right to say it". But then I never stood up for the (frankly repugnant) people who wanted the right to say horribly racist and homophobic things. So now the powers that be have come for me and my terf ways. I wonder who's next.

fidel1ne · 26/01/2016 19:20

I think it's possible to reference elements of a dystopian novel without anyone thinking that we're suggesting that the whole dystopian ruling regime of said dystopian sci-fi fiction will come to pass, isn't it?

For clarity, I was referencing DoubleSpeak (??? CBA to look it up) and plot points around that.

I AM not quivering under my kitchen table with a saucepan on my head expecting a totalitarian regime to seize power Smile

Shortcut, there was a thread about that in sitestuff. Hq said it will be changing, at some point, to not specifiy whether they mean sex or gender

GarlicBake · 26/01/2016 20:00

I like what the commentator said, Osmi, that a trans uterus would only be for the wealthy! The next ultimate status symbol, perhaps?

Would they have to transplant a placenta, as well as connecting up all the arteries & stuff? Still, I suppose they could.

Poor people can just have women get pregnant Confused

AskBasil · 26/01/2016 20:27

They'll have to make abortion on demand legal then, won't they?

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 26/01/2016 20:29

Urgh, i think i'll be unticking uterus on my organ donor card!
i know it isnt really on there

fidel1ne · 26/01/2016 20:30

No but 'any part of my body' (or something) is.

That link - good Lord Shock

QueenStromba · 26/01/2016 20:42

I've already told DH not to let them have my uterus unless they can guarantee that it is only going to someone with XX chromosomes or an XY with AIS.
