My son went to his friends house for a play and tea yesterday. They are both 5. They went to a local soft play.

I went to pick my son up and the husband was there, all good. Had a great time.

I text the mum to say thank you etc and I had this reply...

'No problem! They had a great time at soft play and then they had some dinner there. It came to £10.00. You can give me the money at the gates tomorrow. Have a nice evening! X'

Erm what the fuck? Is that normal? What do I do?

Good on you OP!

BanningTheWordNaice · 21/01/2016 14:24

YANBU totally unreasonable. I THINK though I can't remember that my mum would have offered cash to pay for my ticket but no way in hell would she have asked for it later.

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 21/01/2016 14:24

Id have been uber nice and apologetic while still getting the point across.

"Oh gosh sorry but I'm a bit confused! It's just that when we took little Freddie to Legoland and the times we took him to McDonald's etc we paid so I sort of assumed that whoever did the outing did the paying if you see what I mean? No worries though! Shall we just take what I owe you off what you owe me then if I got it wrong?! Honestly it's a minefield isn't it?! 😊 Xx"

RiverTam · 21/01/2016 14:27

Shamelessly place marking here too.

BibaDiba · 21/01/2016 14:28

So awkward if it's in the fb page and gets back to her Grin

clodsofclay · 21/01/2016 14:30

I'd reply " Ha Ha! you're the one asking for money. Are you ok?"

hahahehe · 21/01/2016 14:30

But surely your child was doing her a favour by being a play date at soft play and giving her an hours peace - I would never dream of asking another mum to pay for our day out! and £8.50 for a 5yr olds food?? What did they have??? Caviar?

Gobbolino6 · 21/01/2016 14:30

Let's hope she's not on MN...

Breadandwine · 21/01/2016 14:31

After reading some of the awful threads in the "Relationships' board, I wouldn't be surprised if the husband was behind all this. Sad

It only occurred to me the other day l will see the same parents at the school gates for the next 6.5 years

We still meet up regularly with two couples we met at the school gates 33 years ago! We were all members of the PTA and had a great time all through primary school. Happy days!

WickedWax · 21/01/2016 14:33

I know it's the internet and anyone can access this, but come on MN, very mean of you to put this on the FB page.

KBGApril · 21/01/2016 14:36

What time do you get back from the school run OP? Update us immediately! I NEED to know how brazen she was face to face.

Only1scoop · 21/01/2016 14:37

Do you think Brazen taker mum in a MNetter? Shock

bakeoffcake · 21/01/2016 14:42

I would have just paid up but you know what, I'd have wanted to send the texts you sent, so good for you OP!

evilcherub · 21/01/2016 14:43

Are you going to ask her to pay her share for the times you have taken her child out? All well having the moral highground but in this case just sounds like she won't learn anything and will just walk all over you. I would at least ask her if she'd like to contribute for the times you have taken her son, especially after her horrible reply!

You were right to call her on this, and I say that as a total wuss! She is rude.

MrsGradyOldLady · 21/01/2016 14:47

rabbit your reply is absolutely perfect!

What a bloody rude woman. I've has years of this and every single time the person who does the inviting pays. Always the other parent offers to pay and always the answer is absolutely not. Every single time. And I have 3 kids eldest 15 so have had lots and lots of trips out with invitations both ways.

Hadalifeonce · 21/01/2016 14:47

A family member invited DS (11) to their UK holiday home as company for their DS.I gave DS some spending money and told him to make sure he bought ice creams, sweets and drinks for everyone.
When I arrived at their usual home to collect him 4 days later, I was asked for £80 to cover the cost of food etc. I must have looked quite shocked as an explanation was offered; 'we probably eat out more than you would have'
