Should I take the day off work tomorrow for dh?

Posting here for higher traffic. Dh had been feeling unwell all week and yesterday informed me that he thought he might have a water infection. Said if he was feeling the same this morning he would go to the walk in centre.

Well he was feeling MUCH worse this morning. Feverish, shakey and can't per at all.

Walk in diagnosed a UTI and prescribed antib's. He hasn't been well at all today. Had been fevrish all day and vomited (only once).
He is obviously taking the day of work tomorrow. I was intending to go in, however, a friend who is not known for being melodramatic and whom I trust had said if he doesn't go for a wee soon he could end up with a catheter and in a lot of pain. She said someone should stay home with him to keep an eye on him.

Of course if I do need to stay home I wouldn't question it. But what do you think. He does seem quite unwell and he is never sick.
What should I do?

Hoping it's not serious in the end and he gets better soon.
With any luck you'll be able to go to work tomorrow too. :)

Cornberry · 10/01/2016 21:41

Depends on what work you do I think. If it's not a huge problem to call in sick I would stay with him if he feels he needs you there, but that's what I would want my partner to do for me if I was really unwell.

Glad you are off to A&E, it is the most sensible thing to do.

CockwombleJeff · 10/01/2016 21:45

Mads - another qualified practitioner here and I was worried about sepsis.

For all the posters saying " he's a grown man go to work " - look up SEPSIS on YouTube .

It is a bigger killer in our country than cancer and heart disease .

Glad you are going to A&E. I have a friend who is an A&E consultant who told me an awful story of a young person who had an untreated UTI, turned to sepsis and they now have life long complications (lucky to be alive).

You are absolutely doing the right thing and not over-reacting.

CocktailQueen · 10/01/2016 22:01

Wow! Am a bit Shock at all the posters happy to let their dh's stay at home, ill, by themselves - how would you all feel if you were left at home like this?

Op, good that you have to gone to A&E. Good luck.

QOD · 10/01/2016 22:07

indecisivedoctor · 10/01/2016 22:55

Hope for not too long a wait for you at A&E. X

AnotherStitchInTime · 10/01/2016 23:02

I agree about the advice re: sepsis and am glad you have gone to A&E. I see some very sick people with urosepsis and sepsis in general where I work and they can go down hill very quickly.

My MIL died from sepsis, it was an awful way to go and she deteriorated rapidly. The day before she had been at a family gathering and seemed fine.

Hope you get seen quickly, sounds like he will need a catheter for retention and IV antibiotics.

BrienneofQarth · 10/01/2016 23:02

Hope it all goes well in a&e and he recovers quickly

Finola1step · 10/01/2016 23:09

Blimey, I take back my previous suggestion of going into work tomorrow! I never knew that UTIs in men were more serious than for women.

Hope all is ok.

Titsalinabumsquash · 10/01/2016 23:13

Good luck op I hope your DH is feeling much better soon. My DF had stones in kidneys and it's the only time I've ever seen him very unwell but after a quick operation he was so much better.

I'd always take a day off to look after my own DP if he was really ill as he would me. In sickness and in health and all that.

ALemonyPea · 10/01/2016 23:19

Hope he is sorted soon Op.

mrwalkensir · 10/01/2016 23:32

all the best - round here the default UTI antibiotic is also the one that most bugs are resistant to, so best not to mess around - may be the same where you are

AndNowItsSeven · 10/01/2016 23:54

Glad you have gone to hospital, hope your dh makes a quick recovery.
