Five Guys Burgers

Went to Bluewater today. Keep hearing how fantastic Five Guys burgers are!
So myself and DS 15 popped in for lunch all excited.
Can honestly say it tasted no better than Burger King except 5 times the price. Would have expected so much better. Anyone else think Five Guys are shit. Apart from GBK where else on the high street is good.

Another vote for Handmade Burger Co. I am veggie and love the selection of different patties and the toppings and sides. Chips are awesome, as is the coleslaw. My carnivorous friends and family tell me the meaty stuff is pretty good too!

islurpmyspaghetti · 02/01/2016 18:13

If you're in London, it's worth finding both Patty & Bun and Boom Burger. Both more awesome than all the ones listed.

Rainshowers · 02/01/2016 18:14

I'm not a fan of five guys. Like you OP, I likened it to an overpriced (and greasy) Burger King. I much prefer Byron at Bluewater and in London I found Shakeshack to be much nicer than five guys. The drinks machine at five guys was its one redeeming feature!

LittleFishBigOcean · 02/01/2016 18:14

I'm debating a peppermint tea myself Flatonthehill. I couldn't believe how squishy it was. I prefer a toasted bun and a burger that holds together and some cutlery

FrinkingIt · 02/01/2016 18:16

Get a little burger in 5 Guys next time, and get it "all the way". Enough toppings to be delicious but you can actually fit it your gob :)

We like 5 Guys - it's what BK and McDonalds should be like but aren't.

longtimelurker101 · 02/01/2016 18:19

5 Guys is a bit of a cut above McDonald's and Burger King but not as good as others, the best burger out there in my opinions is Hache, they even do a sunday roast burger between two yorkshire puds instead of buns.

That or go to Meat Liquour and order the Dead Hippy with a house grog cocktail.

2 hot dogs all the way with extra onions cheese and jalapeños, peanut butter and coffee milkshake, large Cajun fries.
Cheat day favourite.

Sallystyle · 02/01/2016 18:28

Zaks if you have one near is quite nice.

I had a middletons burger a few weeks ago and all I could taste is anchovy.

Love GBK and Ed's Diner is ok. The best burger I ever had was in a pub called the School House in Norwich. Sadly the business collapsed but they were amazing.

southeastastra · 02/01/2016 18:31

I did like Wendy's burgers miss that chain

The80sweregreat · 02/01/2016 18:34

Overpriced ( lakeside one in the summer) the employees were really nice and the chips were tasty, but the burger, not special at all and cost a lot too. The music was so loud i wanted ear plugs! Not a burger lover really, so maybe i shouldnt have bothered!
We live and learn i guess.

LittleFishBigOcean · 02/01/2016 18:38

Yes, agree about the loud music. Now the music in Tiger was great. I did like that experience.

AyeAmarok · 02/01/2016 18:43

Totally agree OP, Five Guys is shit! Exactly like Burger King etc but 5 times the price
There's always a huge queue of teenagers at the one here, I have no idea why. And where do they get the money?

I like Byron.

The80sweregreat · 02/01/2016 18:48

My son hates shopping, but he likes a browse round Tiger! Anywhere with loud music usually puts me off though.
I cant think straight if its really in your face. And five guys made me eat faster to get away from the music. The poor employees will be deaf by the time they are my age at that rate!

LittleFishBigOcean · 02/01/2016 18:54

I've just realised this is in aibu. It's no good folks, we're all in agreement. Can't someone bu about something?

RubyWoooo · 02/01/2016 19:00

Yes littlefish, this is all too civilised for my liking.

YOU'RE ALL PRICKS

There you go. Much better.

LittleFishBigOcean · 02/01/2016 19:03

LTB.

jay55 · 02/01/2016 19:09

I find them so oily that the bun falls apart in a gross oily heap. But the chip portions are enormous.

EachandEveryone · 02/01/2016 19:11

After having them in nyc I wouldn't touch them here because you know it's going to be a rip off.

thisismypassword · 02/01/2016 19:11

Agreed OP

disappoint15 · 02/01/2016 19:11

You are being completely unreasonable. They are much better than Burger King. All the way is the way to go. You can't possibly compare them to McDonalds.

Offler · 02/01/2016 19:18

Based in Colchester, best burgers ever 😁🍔

Fluffyears · 02/01/2016 19:47

When we were on London we lived Byron burger....they need to open up in Glasgow. They'd have our regular patronage.
