In ridiculously sad excited. I got given an Instant Pot Duo 60 for Christmas and it is utterly fantastic!

I cooked a cheesecake in 25 minutes. It's delicious. Then I pot roasted a 2kg joint of beef in 45 minutes -beautifully tender and still just ever so slightly rare in the middle.

salted and anyone who made the honey sesame chicken did you add the stated amounts of ketchup and soy sauce or reduce them along with the honey?

Haven't tried my pot yet sadly but I am reading that Instant Pot page avidly so I can get the hang of things.

Is there a recipes page in Food on here? Or is everyone just using the blogs and things? It might be nice to have a MN thread too.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 04/02/2016 14:38

Mine has arrived!

Just first of many questions and not really about the pot - I did the code for the discount and free stuff (thank you!) and there is one heat proof 'mitt' is that correct or should there be two?

Naicecuppatea · 04/02/2016 19:39

Tonight was chilli con carne and refried beans, both IPed. Refried beans were yum! I used dried pinto beans.

lougle · 04/02/2016 23:04

How odd- there should be two.

'there is one heat proof 'mitt' is that correct or should there be two?'

There should be two. I think one may be tucked inside the other.

claig · 04/02/2016 23:43

'Is there a recipes page in Food on here? Or is everyone just using the blogs and things? It might be nice to have a MN thread too.'

I agree, that would be great with recipes about how many cups of water etc to make it simple.

saltedcaramelhotchoc · 05/02/2016 06:56

MrsJorah, I winged it a bit on the soy and ketchup but at a guess I definitely cut down the ketchup. Mine didn't need thickening with corn flour either (I just used the sauté function to thicken it as it was). But I hate too sweet food so I might not be the best judge of this!

MrsJorahMormont · 05/02/2016 10:14

Thanks Salted. We have friends over tomorrow night so I will try the honey sesame chicken or the beef and broccoli I think.

Good like Claig said the mitts might be tucked inside each other mine were. They are really handy!

Yes a recipe thread would be really good. Lots of the FB peeps are American so I spend a lot of time searching Google for our equivalents of half and half or chuck steak Smile

It's CHEESECAKE DAY!

the hough was fine, I chilli-ed it up, but was over cautions with the chilli flakes as it was a new pot. Last time I had a new pot they were so so much hotter than the previous pot and we all ended up melting into our dinners. But I bought some liquid smoke in Tesco the other day, so it had a lovely smokey background. Leftovers are in the freezer as "Beef and Smokey Beans" so no one will query the lack of chilli

I cooked turtle beans yesterday, no pre soaking, just on the bean setting, they were perfect!

I've got a blue crocodile heat mitt that came from Home bargains, so you could try there if you have only got the one IP mitt goodenough ...if you cba to complain. It's very similar, but the two bits are the same, not a hand and a thumb section, so useful for either hand, in case the one mitt you have is wrong for you!

TheGoodEnoughWife · 05/02/2016 14:45

The mitts were tucked into one another :-)

Ruhrpott · 05/02/2016 19:19

I've just made a cottage pie in mine, well did the meat and veg in the bottom and potatoes on top in the trivet that someone on this thread made me buy Wink

lougle · 05/02/2016 21:17

OK...my labneh (cheese made from strained yoghurt) is absolutely beautiful. So good. The Greek yoghurt is also lovely.

This afternoon I made a chicken suet pudding. 6 frozen chicken drumsticks in the IP for 20 minutes on poultry with 2 cups of stock. Removed from IP, meat off bones. Sauté function to sweat off onions and peppers, then all back in IP and thickened with cornflour. Then, I made a suet pastry (2 parts SR flour with 1 part suet, salt and water) and lined a greased bowl with it. Filling in, then a suet pastry lid. I covered the bowl with a sheet of pleated baking parchment, then a sheet of pleated foil, tying string around it to keep in place. Steam 5 minutes, then manual for 20 minutes.

my youngest might never leave home if I start making steamed meat puddings! That sounds lovely
when you steamed it, did you just set it to go for 20 minutes with the vent open, and close it after 5 minutes of steam had escaped? Or did you use the steam function and then onto manual. Would that make a difference?

I made marmalade today....1kg Seville oranges, 1 lemon, 1 lime, 2 pints water, 15 minutes, NPR. Lemon and lime were done but the oranges were still a bit bouncy, so 10 more mins, another NPR and they were fab. scooped out the middles, and put them in my straining bag, shredded all the peel, put everything into my jam pan with 2kg sugar and boiled it all up into 4 and a half very large jars of marmalade.

THEN! I made chicken and rice.... sautéed some onion, some red peppers and a couple of bendy spring onions, put in the chicken breasts, a cup of water, random spices and a stock cube, 8 mins, then NPR ....and then just kept them warm in the warming oven
Rice was basmati, I soaked it while all the above was going on, and then the stock left was the right amount for the rice 1cup rice, 1.5 cups water and I gave it 4 minutes on manual, then QPR and it was MUCH nicer than the rice cycle so I'll do that method in future.

MrsJorahMormont · 09/02/2016 12:34

Just a quick update to say I love my IP and thanks so much for the thread. I have been cooking all sorts of stuff but the speed of stews is unbelievable. IP turns braising steak into tender beef on the 35 min programme it's just brilliant and great for any nights I have to go out at dinner time as I know it will kick in to stay warm. Going to make sausages for tea tonight but going to use the IP for potatoes so I can hand peel them when they're done Grin

lougle · 09/02/2016 14:18

Brilliant! I have started doing 'rustic mash'. Just cut the potatoes in quarters, then 7 minutes on manual. Mash with a knob of butter, no need for milk. The skins just add a bit of texture.

OP posts:
MrsJorahMormont · 09/02/2016 22:57

Well the hand peeling was a bit of a fail because a) the potatoes were really hot and burned my tender fingertips and b) they were floury so I lost half the potato with the skin Hmm It would work well for 'rustic mash' but I hadn't washed them. Would also work well with waxy / salad potatoes or if you could completely cool them for potato salad or similar.

Going to make something easy with chicken breasts tomorrow. Any ideas?

Naicecuppatea · 10/02/2016 21:09

Ah! Another very tasty beef casserole, with stewing steak, parsnips, swedes, carrots and split pea mix to thicken. Also beef stock, red wine, bay leaf, tomato puree, onions and garlic and you have a delicious bowl of casserole in 30 minutes. I don't think my hob has been used in a week!

lougle · 11/02/2016 21:53

Sounds nice.

Tonight I used my new Spriralizer to make courgetti, which I tossed in a hot wok before serving.

To go with it, in the IP, I sautéed onion and peppers, browned some chicken thigh fillets, then cooked off a cup of white wine with some chicken stock. 20 minutes on manual, 10 mins NPR. Then I switched to sauté mode, squeezed 2 lemons into the pot, added 100ml of cream, then thickened with cornflour.

It was delicious!

I was in Costco yesterday and they have these on sale for just under £90 inc VAT

ZiggyFartdust · 12/02/2016 13:42

I am loving mine, used it everyday since it arrived. Stews, soups, lentils, rice pudding, bolognese...I proved bread dough in it yesterday.

lougle · 12/02/2016 15:15

It's magnificent, isn't it?Grin

I want to try some lentil things next. Bought some lentils and split peas to experiment with. I have turned into an IP geek Blush

Chippednailvarnish · 12/02/2016 21:41

Just done spare ribs and chicken wings from frozen, finished them off in the oven and pan respectively. It's such a time saver.

dustwhatdust · 14/02/2016 07:57

Hi , advice needed I've got the ip in my basket on instant pot uk with the prom code gf157 applied making the total £99 . However it doesn't mention anything about anything extra included . My friend says she'll take me to the new Costco as she has membership this afternoon as I've wanting to check it out and I hear they've got it for £89 including vat .
Can anyone tell what I get exactly in the extras with the code .
What shall I do ?
Your thoughts please !
