In ridiculously sad excited. I got given an Instant Pot Duo 60 for Christmas and it is utterly fantastic!

I cooked a cheesecake in 25 minutes. It's delicious. Then I pot roasted a 2kg joint of beef in 45 minutes -beautifully tender and still just ever so slightly rare in the middle.

Tondelaya the cup is only supposed to be used for rice. They got some expert rice people to help them, which is why the cup markers are on the side of the pot.

A British cup is 250ml
A Canadian cup is 250ml
A USA legal cup is 240ml
A USA 'customary' cup is half a pint (237ml)

I have found that an IP cup of rice weighs around 150g. So for our family of five, 2 cups of rice and 2 cups of water is just right.

It's the Deal of the day on Amazon today..

Icouldbeknitting · 29/01/2016 08:11

I just came to say that, I follow Instant Pot on Twitter and saw it there.

I've been reading this thread because a friend on FB has what she calls a "Star Wars" pot and she posts photos of her latest creations. It's only recently that I've connected her photos with this thread and had a look to see what she's been raving about. I've more or less decided that I'll have one when my much used slow cooker dies. I used to have a pressure cooker about thirty years ago and it was too scary because of the hissing.

The Lux is one of Amazon's deals of the day at £79.99.

More yoghurt! Big bowl, slightly less starter. Here we go.

lougle · 29/01/2016 10:18

Icould the IP only hisses when you quick release the steam. The Duo-60 is much better than the lux. It's worth using a coupon code listed above to get one for £90.

so if it says a cup of water....like for the cheesecake...in the base is it that cup or a real 250ish cup?

and same for recipes? If you are following a recipes, do you use real cups or the IP cup?

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 29/01/2016 14:52

I just did a cheesecake and it looks lovely, I went for 20 minutes, 10 mins off, but there was a very feeble pfft as I released the remains of the pressure.

ZiggyFartdust · 29/01/2016 16:53

Mine was supposed to be here between 2,30 and 3,30.
It wasn't though, and it's still not.
Angry

lougle · 29/01/2016 17:16

At first I used to use 2 of the IP cups and fretted over it. Now I just slosh some water in Grin

I just made a lovely beef stew in mine. Did beef and onions together for 20 mins then chucked all the veg in and did it for another 10 mins with an added Kallo stock cube. Then thicker it up with a bit of cornflour and a bit of tomato purée on sauté adjusted to less. The family wolfed it down and said it was very tasty.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 29/01/2016 21:08

I am sad for you Ziggy

I have decided the rice cup is just for rice...there's something in the veg it that says "at least one cup of water (250ml)"

My mash to go with the venison I cooked in the slow cooker on Tuesday was a triumph, in spite of my forgetting to close the vent and only discovering it ten minutes later cos I thought it was hissing a bit.

Anyone done a steamed sponge pudding?

lougle · 29/01/2016 21:21

Haven't done a steamed sponge pudding, but have done a suet pudding/dumpling and a cake.

This fell off threads I'm on! I haven't used it for a few days. Think it will be a soup trial later...

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 30/01/2016 20:57

the cheesecake was amazing....I did 20 mins, it had a lovely wobble when it came out and set beautifully. It was a little damp on the top, I think I was careless lifting the lid off, but kitchen papered it off and the top did not go mooshy like I feared

ALso the base was still quite crisp, and not in the usually set like concrete butter biscuit base way, so that is another plus, was also worried that would be damp and a bit nasty

I winged it for tonight's supper with a Lamb Hot pot affair, the sauté function is amazing, did the leeks, carrots and celery, then layered the potatoes in, added two cups of water, a veggie stock cube and a huge shake of dried thyme, set the partially defrosted chops on top and did the "stew" setting, dh practically ran into the kitchen to see where the lamb smell was coming from when I QPR'd, the meat was fine, but I felt it could be a tad more melty so I gave it another 10mins on hi and it really made a difference.

Tomorrow's plans include Lemon curd, sticky toffee pudding and maybe yoghurt overnight.

chicaguapa · 31/01/2016 08:50

I can't remember if I got this recipe from here or the facebook page, but I made the <a class="break-all" href="http://snip.ly/VQXr#damndelicious.net/2014/12/31/lemon-butter-chicken/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Lemon butter chicken last night and it was delicious.

I used fresh thyme instead of dried, but only used 2 small sprigs and will use more next time. I also didn't thicken the sauce at the end as we wanted it left runny to soak into the rice. But it's a definite family meal and suitable for guests too.

lougle · 31/01/2016 09:03

These adventures sound great! I'm going to meal plan today. Somebody on the instant pot site showed their meal planning - they prep the ingredients for a meal, then freeze them down in a food bag so they can just grab it out of the freezer on the day and dump it in the IP. Genius.

Mine is arriving today! Been obsessively reading recipes and tips. Got it for £80 on Amazon deal a couple of days ago. I'm not bothered about yoghurt so have the 6 in 1. Am recovering from an op and have to spend a lot of time lying down between being on feet for short periods so used it as an excuse to buy one Smile

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 31/01/2016 14:32

Was inspired by this thread to buy one, and ordered it on Thursday when it was "deal of the day" on Amazon. It's just arrived! Sadly I can't play with it today as have already got dinner sorted, but next weekend I will be cooking for England.

I just hope its as good as you lot have promised, because dh is already muttering about how much worktop space it will take up....

lougle · 31/01/2016 14:50

He'll soon be asking when you're making the next cheesecake/curry/exciting dinner😊

saltedcaramelhotchoc · 31/01/2016 17:45

I've got chicken poaching (fast) in it - it's great to be able to cook chicken this fast - I haven't added much as want to use the chicken for sandwiches etc. Hopefully it will work! I'm still on a learning curve...

saltedcaramelhotchoc · 31/01/2016 18:32

Mmm it poached the chicken perfectly! Fab.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 31/01/2016 21:48

no sticky toffee pudding, I read the recipe and had no dates, I made a sussex pond pudding instead which was fine, but may could have done with a bit longer, the lemon was not completely squishy, but as I had thrown some raisins it didn't seem to matter, dh and ds really liked it

I also used gf flour, so felt the suet crust was a little burly, but not sure if that was just the flour or the steaming

yoghurt tomorrow, and I just cannot decide if lemon curds in the ip is worth it or not...I may just make some normally

Pangurban1 · 31/01/2016 22:30

Not as adventurous as everyone else, yet. I'm just using it for the time saving and energy saving (mine) qualities at the moment. It is great for quick and nutritious dinners which would normally take time and attention in the oven.

Lamb shanks yesterday. I gave them 50mins and they were nicely done. They normally take all day in the slow cooker as I don't want to have oven on for the yonks it would take.

There is something fab in just popping stuff in and not having to fuss around it. Will avail more of it's varied uses soon.

Cleaning it is so easy as just the liner in the dishwasher.

Pangurban1 · 31/01/2016 22:32

And ta for the tips lougle . Will definitely omit coating meat in flour in the future!

lougle · 31/01/2016 23:09

I have a batch of yoghurt on for the first time. It's 4 hours in and looking promising. I'll put a photo up of it after it's finished, too.
