In ridiculously sad excited. I got given an Instant Pot Duo 60 for Christmas and it is utterly fantastic!

I cooked a cheesecake in 25 minutes. It's delicious. Then I pot roasted a 2kg joint of beef in 45 minutes -beautifully tender and still just ever so slightly rare in the middle.

Try Costco, its £89.99

MrsJorahMormont · 31/01/2016 23:52

I'm only seeing the 6-in-1 on Costco and it's 94.99.

I did a steamed pudding yesterday! This recipe - www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/13352/schooldays-treacle-sponge. It turned out well, apart from the very middle which was still a bit runny. I cooked it in a pyrex bowl on the trivet, covered with foil, with one cup of water, on HP for around an hour in total. It obviously needed a bit longer and I would say that the hour and a half in the recipe (even though this is traditional steaming) would probably have been perfect. We ate all the outside bits and it was delicious with custard. It rose nicely and was golden on top.

In the instant pot site, the code ft20151 gives the 7 in 1 for £104 (£25 discount), plus a free silicone seal and silicone mitts.

They have extended the other code! gf157 Smile

MrsJorahMormont · 01/02/2016 09:49

Lougle you should go and work for them. Between this thread and all the Amazon reviews I was totally sold on it.

lougle · 01/02/2016 10:03

MrsJorahMormont I'm so pleased for you! It really is fantastic. I think, tbh, that it sells itself. I'm just straining my first batch of yoghurt.

OK, the results are in and it's fantastic! Creamy, thick and smooth. It could easily 'go Greek' with a proper straining cloth/bag instead of a piece of kitchen towel!

Ok, mine is here, unwrapped and I'm thinking to start off with a beef stew, should be simple?

Where are we all getting recipes from?

Naicecuppatea · 01/02/2016 14:33

Join the instant pot comminity facebook site Ziggy if you are on. Beef stew - saute meat with/without veg till browned. Add stock (1 cup or more) and herbs etc. Cook on manual HP for 15 minutes and check when pressure has naturally released. You can then thicken with cornflour etc. I tend to use a stew mix with barley/lentils/split peas as that helps thicken and is lovely. Let us know the results!

Naicecuppatea · 01/02/2016 14:36

Very tempted by the yoghurt but seems a bit daunting!

lougle · 01/02/2016 14:45

Oh Naice it is so easy! I didn't even scald the milk because it's already pasteurised. Just press the yoghurt button until it says 'boil' and let it bring the temperature up until it's tepid (it needs to be 42-46c or 110-115f, but basically, warm enough that you can dip your finger in and leave it there for about 5 seconds, but can't keep it in there much longer). Then turn it off, stir some live yoghurt into it -any brand as long as it says 'live'. Press the yoghurt button again and leave it for 8-12 hours. That's it! Then it just depends how thick you like it -the thicker you like it, the longer you strain it.

Ooh lougle, you have made it sound super easy. I am going to have to try it now, aren't I? My questions: how much milk and how much live yoghurt do you need to add? Or can you send me the recipe you used? Thank you!

ZiggyFartdust · 01/02/2016 16:05

Oh lord, I need help already!

I tried to do the test run, followed all instructions, but its just pouring steam into the kitchen for the last ten minutes! The manual says it will stop steaming after a couple of minutes when the float valve pops up?

What on earth can I be doing wrong?

Naicecuppatea · 01/02/2016 16:06

Is your knobby thing pointed on sealing?

Chippednailvarnish · 01/02/2016 16:09

Like this?

Ok I've made a start. Lovely pasta and vegetables for lunch and am doing ribs and Mac cheese for tea. Will let you know how it turns outSmile

ZiggyFartdust · 01/02/2016 16:10

It's pointed more at 12 o'clock, so its more on the word sealing than the icon? That must be wrong, so?

Naicecuppatea · 01/02/2016 16:13

If that is as far as the knob will go in that direction then I think you're ok Ziggy.

ZiggyFartdust · 01/02/2016 16:17

Ok I moved the knob a bit, and did it again. It did stop steaming and the count down started, but then some more steam came out. Now its beeping that its done. Is that what its supposed to do?

Naicecuppatea · 01/02/2016 16:20

I think that all sounds normal. A bit of steam gets released until the valve pops up, then it seals. Make sure the water is hot, sounds like it though.

ZiggyFartdust · 01/02/2016 16:29

Thank you. I love gadgets when I get to know them, but seem to be utterly useless at start up, for some reason!
It's locked now after its finished. Will it just release at some point like a washing machine door or do I have to press something?

Naicecuppatea · 01/02/2016 16:42

You can turn your knob to venting to quick release the steam built up then the valve will drop down and you can open the lid. Otherwise it will do it on its own (natural pressure release).
