Do not think smearing a soiled nappy on a car is a good idea, or mixing cat poo with milk and pouring it into airvents to get rid of problem parkers, etc etc. It's all gone a bit bizarre round here, and I used to read mn for sane, diverse, funny, wise intelligent opinion. Now my eyes bulge at the majority of posts / advice - people are aggressive and humourless far more often than wise, funny or kind. I'm hoping responses to this thread won't attract too many of those...

Has penis beaker ruined it for us long term posters?

If anyone can direct me to where all the old posters have gone I'd love to know Grin

Oh lordy Stratters you have swung to the left

Pannn · 29/12/2015 14:16

yes I'd not thought of the moderating habit change contributing to the down turn in MN. But isn't even that at times, it's the required use of the word 'fucking', as if we were all working on a small engineering company work floor, so it's 'fucking wheelie bin/ds/Tesco etc.' in the thread title. In RL I'd very happily judge and avoid these miscreants, so it's a bit annoying they enter my world by the internet.

Sparklingbrook · 29/12/2015 14:20

Emojis in thread titles too. What a treat. Sad

I don't know how many topics there are on MN but I have hidden all but 11 of them. I still think I need to whittle it down a bit more.

RainbowDashed · 29/12/2015 14:20

In the old days, if someone was being a total twat, a dozen others would tell them to fuck off, and they often would. Nowadays we can only report and hope that eventually their comment will be deleted (after being up for hours and hours).

This in bucketloads.

I remember being called a twat on here once . It was because I was being a twat. People don't seem to have that level of self awareness these days.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 29/12/2015 14:22

I've only been here 3 years. This Christmas has brought out several very odd threads ranging from my thinking "bonkers but harmless" to "I'm glad I don't know these people in real life".

Sparklingbrook · 29/12/2015 14:22

So was a big announcement suddenly made that you were no longer allowed to call people a twat and that you had to report?

Pannn · 29/12/2015 14:23

Worth forth or fifthing this.

Gransnet is much nicer.

BatsUpMyNightie · 29/12/2015 14:32

Interesting thread and not in any way goady in my opinion. If this is considered goady then someone has no real grip of what a real goady thread is and who starts them (a small minority of frantic namechangers with non-static IPs).

And this is the best line of the week - about as welcome to me as a box set of The Office Grin [ grin] [ grin]

BatsUpMyNightie · 29/12/2015 14:33

Note to self - Fuck off somewhere and practice your Grins until you can do more than one in a row ffs.

[shame]

Sparklingbrook · 29/12/2015 14:33

Is it true that namechanging is not allowed on Gransnet? Why is that?

WorraLiberty · 29/12/2015 14:35

I still really like Mumsnet.

Yes, it's changed now it's got much bigger but I find it less 'cliquey' than it was 4 years ago when I joined.

There's still fun to be had. You just have look a bit harder for it.

Caprinihahahaha · 29/12/2015 14:35

Penis beaker was fucking dire unfunny shite that made me embarrassed to admit I used MN.

People used to apologise.

You didn't have someone posting aggressively on every thread

You didn't have some arse posting 'well I think the op is getting a really hard time' on every thread.

You didn't have to post fucking 'lighthearted' in titles.

I do think the ease of namechanging makes the site attractive to trolls and GFs. Say what you like then disappear and reappear under a new name and start again. Perfect.

But it's all been said before, many times. Nothing ever changes.

(and Mary and Usual and Sparkling and anyone else I know who's changed their name. bastards)

AND

You used to be able to talk to people AND NAME THEM without all the cliquey royalty shit. Now that was a long time ago.

Caprinihahahaha · 29/12/2015 14:42

You could use irony or sarcasm without having to explain it.

And I could actually use my proper bloody name.
I've lost Pagwatch for ever.
It's the end I tell you.
