MIL (we aren't married but you know!) is staying.

She is in her fifties so not old yet is constantly complaining about how much we shower and wash our hair (once a day.)

She showers and washes her hair once a week.

She uses a washing up bowl, a flannel and soap on other days.

WHY? She isn't unwell, by the way.

RudeElf I'm not you.

No but you are human i assume? Not a yetti with a thick full body of hair? Why does drying take you longer than showering? Do you use a towel or air dry?

I also can't imagine what another poster does for 2 hrs.

OP, the habits of your partner's mother are disgusting. I have a shower every morning before putting on my clothes (after being under a blanket for 8 hrs you get smelly); every evening before putting on my pjs; and on days when I go for a run in the middle of the day I also have a shower afterwards, obviously. And btw I only have a bath, I use one of those Y-shaped things on the taps to shower. Once a week... yuck. The only thing I can think of re. her comments on your habits is that deep down maybe she does know there is something not quite right with her "frequency" of showering...?

I had a bath everyday without fail as a child in the 70's. My parents would have been horrified to give me anything less

megletthesecond · 28/12/2015 20:39

My mum and stepdad are in their 60's but shower every day. They're very active.

I don't think this has anything to do with age. It makes me think of the people who comment on beauty forums and say they wash with carbolic soap and brush their teeth with twigs and buying cleanser and moistiurser is horrible decadence!

PedantPending · 28/12/2015 20:56

I am 57, shower and wash hair once a day. My parents are in their mid-80s and do the same. I din't think it is an age thing, but possibly your 'MIL' doesn't come from a very well-off family?

I shower every day

However I'm only 30 and grew up never having a shower at home. My parents only added one around 5 years ago. So growing up we had a shared bath twice a week, and fresh flannel at the sink wash inbetween. They have never had central heating so home freezing also.
