Does anyone actually like gift sets

Smellies and bubble bath I mean.
I love bubble bath but I always have tubs and bottles of mositerising cream left over as I always when I can be bothered use the same one. Not to mention the sponge or flannel that never gets used and don't even get me started on all the bloody packaging.
I am always grateful for the gift but I do tend to think they are an overpriced waste

Oh and bought my mum 2 Laura Mercier gift sets. She loves it but would never spend that amount on herself so I bought it for her.

She cried and kept thanking me. So she was happy.

Kittykatmacbill · 28/12/2015 08:18

I really like one, I have trained Bil & sil to get me a soap and glory one each year. I love it and the strange packaging makes a good crayon box for dd1.

Sighing · 28/12/2015 08:27

I separate what i will use and what I wont. The bits i wont (solid soaps, thick body creams, some scrubs) and pop them with bits from hampers i wont use to the foodbank. We took a post Christmas haul yesterday. My daughters donated 3 selrction boxes each (1/2). It's not staples for a foodbank, but the dates were long and they'll go to be used.

I can't stand them... I personally find them abit of a thoughtless gift. Confused

donajimena · 28/12/2015 08:33

Love them

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 28/12/2015 08:41

Hate them.

It's like being told that you stink.

MrsTrentReznor · 28/12/2015 17:08

Hate them unless they are Molton Brown. I'm a smellies snob.
Still got last year's hanging around to add to the ones I got this year. Hmm
Wonderful DP got me my MB ones though. Grin
I'll look into donating my others.

I love receiving smellies (especially if they're from Lush or Molton Brown)!

Salmotrutta · 28/12/2015 17:24

I like them but sometimes they don't like me! (eczema) so I do love smelling them and using them if I can.

Some people are just very hard to please though... Hmm

You can still appreciate that someone gave you a present even if you may not love it.

I agree about the snobbery usual - God forbid anyone gives Bayliss and Harding presents Hmm

I wonder where every stands on Crabtree and Evelyn? like I care

southroad · 28/12/2015 17:27

The women in my family all love toiletry/gift sets. This year I gave Dermalogica, Ren and Bobbi Brown sets to my mum and sisters, and I got Diptyque, Illamasqua and Laura Mercier sets from family and friends, which I'm delighted with.

cantgonofurther · 28/12/2015 17:29

It depends on the brand. If I don't like them my 14yo will happily use it.

I only buy them for people whose tastes I know very well. Personally I'm happy with most of the ones I've received, mostly because I only tend to get them from a couple of relatives who know my tastes very well as well. This year I got gorgeous Origins ginger essence stuff, and some Waitrose ginger & clementine as well. Very happy bunny.

Salmotrutta · 28/12/2015 17:37

KingJoffrey - it certainly isn't like being told you stink!

More like "Here's something that smells nice to pamper yourself with".

Well that's the way I view it anyway. Grin

BolshierAryaStark · 28/12/2015 17:41

Soap & Glory, Ted Baker & FCUK I do.

Ohdearohdearme · 28/12/2015 18:02

My heart sinks when I receive them. I prefer to choose my own toiletries and usually end up donating gift sets to the charity shop. I've never used hand cream in my life yet end up with at least 5 gifts sets containing it each Christmas from DH's relatives, despite him trying mentioning as kindly as possible without being blunt that I don't use it. To me, it suggests little or no thought has been put into finding out what that person's tastes are (unless of course they love gift sets) as it's generally seen as inoffensive in the same generic way that chocolates are for example. That in itself is offensive to me, especially as I always make the effort to buy other people something personal.

AtSea1979 · 28/12/2015 18:05

Hate them, usually end up regifting and often wonder if the one I got was a regift.

Scarletforya · 28/12/2015 18:06

Nope.

There's always a body lotion/body moisturiser in there. The idea of slapping cold grease all over myself is not appealing .

miakulpa · 28/12/2015 18:12

I do cringe when I see guys from work with these massive soap and glory sets that Boots always do half price at Xmas. There's nothing wrong with the brand but it's not really a thoughtful gift.

user7755 · 28/12/2015 18:13

I am Shock at how horrible people are on here about the presents that people have bought them.

Is this is a genuine reflection of humanity? Sad

BoboChic · 28/12/2015 18:14

Packages from Annick Goutal or Santa Maria Novella are always lovely but I don't want anything from Sephora/Boots/M&S!

DancingDuck · 28/12/2015 18:15

DS bought me one from the Sanctuary. The scrub mit is fantastic and gives you a good massage, and the smell is divine. I love mine.
