Does anyone actually like gift sets

Smellies and bubble bath I mean.
I love bubble bath but I always have tubs and bottles of mositerising cream left over as I always when I can be bothered use the same one. Not to mention the sponge or flannel that never gets used and don't even get me started on all the bloody packaging.
I am always grateful for the gift but I do tend to think they are an overpriced waste

I like them. I buy them for myself in the sales - the miniatures and bags are great for travelling, and I like trying new scents of shower gel, moisturiser, etc.

I usually just use whatever is on offer in Tesco so it's nice to have something a bit different.

doggydaft · 27/12/2015 22:18

I love getting smellies, in fact I ask for them Grin but I don't have sensitive skin and the people who buy them for me have great taste.
This year I got Jo Malone, Tom Ford, Soap and Glory and some from M&S. I will use them all with pleasure.

TiredButFineODFOJ · 27/12/2015 22:48

I like them if they are one I like.
If not then I will donate them, regift them or sometimes ebay them if they are posh molton brown either way the gift has been 'useful' in some way.
Are we allowed to fully slate bayliss and harbinge now? Is it a MN snobbery thing? I'm not a fan of it but because it makes me itch. I buy myself palmolive from poundland so I'm not being snooty I just don't like it.

sandylion · 27/12/2015 23:51

Yes I'll take a gift set any day, saves me buying shower gel (I use bubble bath as shower gel as I don't often get the chance for a bath these days.)

Dollymixtureyumyum · 28/12/2015 00:12

Bodyshop dewberry- memories I used to love that. You where no one at school unless you had a dewberry body spray and lip balm 😊

I like them,it saves me having to remember to get them.

Unless they are royal jelly or honey then I want to be sick on them

PickledLilly · 28/12/2015 01:02

I hate the damn things, I don't have a bath in my house only a shower, I have no understanding of why anybody would want to smear themselves in any kind of lotion or butter and turn themselves into some sort of perfumed greased pig and I'm really fussy about smells so I find the smell of most of them nauseating and too strong.

I think they're the kind of gifts you only get from people who don't know you at all (unless you really do like that sort of thing) so to me they seem impersonal and thoughtless. They go straight to the charity shop here.

manicinsomniac · 28/12/2015 01:03

I like them.

But then I like pretty much anything that's been wrapped up and given to me - I'm like an overexcited child when it comes to presents.

nokidshere · 28/12/2015 01:12

I'd love them but can't use any (have severe psoriasis) so no one buys any.

I'd be happy with them if I could though 😄

Mrsmistletoe · 28/12/2015 01:13

I love them!!

I ask for dp for soap & glory for Christmas and sanctuary for birthday & valentines!

I only have dp who buys me stuff so I have to ask for the same stuff every year from him to be able to get them Grin

RockinHippy · 28/12/2015 01:50

No, I hate them & I got a big one from DH, because DD loves them & nagged persuaded him to get me the one she wanted - even though she knows she can't use it due to allergies, there is bugger all in there that I likeHmm

BringMeTea · 28/12/2015 04:36

Depends what it is. I was very happy with a L'Occitane and Aesop one this Christmas. Would have been less pleased with Body Shop. Not snobby just don't like the synthetic smells from most.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 28/12/2015 04:52

Yes I love getting nice, expensive bath or skin stuff as gifts but not excited by supermarket own brand type things, cheap stinky products or anything with 'body lotion' as I have very dry skin and it's pointless on me (not moisturising enough)
A quality set though will always be welcomed. A smelly set should be better quality than a person will usually buy themselves. Lots of generic sets are not, and I see them as like buying a person toothpaste or loo roll; not a special treat, just an everyday thing

hangingoutattheendofmywick · 28/12/2015 05:16

I love them. Especially ones from the body shop that smell divine. No one buys them for me anymore for some reason - but I'd be thrilled to get one.

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 28/12/2015 05:23

I do wonder how much 'body butter' any normal woman with kids, an untidy house and nothing in the fridge is likely to need in her life.

hangingoutattheendofmywick · 28/12/2015 05:27

True - blessed - but maybe it can double up as a bath shiner or fabric conditioner. Wink
I think this is why I don't get these anymore - because people think I have no use for it. Like make up. And deodorant. And Jewellry. Or decent clothes. Would love some though.

aurynne · 28/12/2015 05:33

I use the shower gel but nothing else, I don't use moisturiser or "body butter" and I very rarely bath, so most of it gets wasted on me. I normally re-gift to friends.

annandale · 28/12/2015 06:40

I like getting smellies, but would prefer something chosen specially rather than a gift set - a really nice hand cream or just bubble bath would be great tbh. I'm not great on either shower gel or body lotion and that's what you get in gift sets. Actually my SIL gave me a hand wash and lotion set last year and it was enormous and still not finished nice.

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 28/12/2015 06:41

Me! I usually get a lovely set from BIL and SIL :-)

BadlyBehavedShoppingTrolley · 28/12/2015 06:42

Depends entirely on the brand, but the problem with sets is that there is usually at least one thing (usually body lotion or hand cream) that just won't get used.

ApocalypseNowt · 28/12/2015 07:43

Can i just pop up to say that if you don't like gift sets but have been given them for christmas to please consider donating them to your local woman's refuge or similar? Smile

insancerre · 28/12/2015 07:48

I don't like them. I do love a nice bubble bath granted but don't use body lotion orbath granules. What do bathgranules actually do?

Jibberjabberjooo · 28/12/2015 08:06

No, I don't like them.

Unless it's a brand I use or like such as No.7 or something then it's a waste. I don't want a 100 small bottles cluttering up my life.

Also unless you love the brand I think it shows a lack of thought or imagination. Who wants a Dove gift set. I can buy that on offer in Tesco anytime.

MontyYouTerribleCunt · 28/12/2015 08:08

Not my favourite gift. I'm pleased to get anything vaguely useful though so am happy to receive them. Wouldn't buy them though.

Enjolrass · 28/12/2015 08:11

I love them. I can only use certain brands so mum usually gets me a set X

I rarely have a bath, I shower everyday. So my mum always gets me one for showering.

I have enough smelliest to last all year now! Yay!!!

Mil always buys me a brand that I can't use, but I accept it gratefully and tell her it was lovely. I usually let the kids use it. This year she got me a bracelet so win win. Grin
