Just had a blazing row with "D"Bro over rinising dishes after washing them.

I went to put a plate I was washing on the drainer and he roared at me for not rinsing it

Confused

Who is the weirdo here?

I don't rinse. No-one has died. Fortunately I don't know anybody in real life who's uptight enough to care either way.

WillSomebodyThinkOfStefan · 27/12/2015 18:35

You don't flush after every wee unlucky - That is a whole new thread...

90sforever · 27/12/2015 18:37

What makes me laugh is the faux drama. You will Get ill! You are disgusting! You are a pig. ROTFL. you are too over invested in trying to belittle people on forums. And resort to posting falsehoods to get there

GnomePhone · 27/12/2015 18:37

Some of the suds slide off, the rest dry on there or get transferred into the tea towel that is used to dry them. It is of course unlikely to harm you, but so are lots of things that are a bit gross.

Oysterbabe · 27/12/2015 18:38

It's a bit of a running joke with my siblings that when you make a cup of tea at mum's you get soap bubbles on top. Gross but true.

ChoccyLog · 27/12/2015 18:38

My father is a non-rinser.

Last time I visited my parents I had a mug of hot water to drink. (Water out of kettle.) The mug was white.

Halfway through drinking I noticed some sandy looking gunge collecting at the bottom of the cup. It wasn't out of the kettle. It was dried on food particles that had dried on the cup and were now decorating the bottom of it.

The inside of their cups often feel 'grainy' and it's dried on food particles.

You get the same effect if your dishwasher gets a blocked filter.

unlucky83 · 27/12/2015 18:39

oh dear Will ...will that cause MN outrage?....goes and hides...Grin

IonaNE · 27/12/2015 18:39

YABU. What, do you think, will happen to the foam/soap that is on the plate? Will it magically disappear?
And why, do you think, rates of intestinal cancer are so high in the UK, where a lot of people don't rinse plates?

Focusfocus · 27/12/2015 18:41

I'm sorry but you'd put washing up liquid on a plate, sud it up and just leave it there on the plate?! So you'd literally Serve up washing up liquid bubbles to people ?

I cannot believe this!

GnomePhone · 27/12/2015 18:41

You could say that swigging from the penis beaker is unlikely to poison you, but i wouldnt fancy doing it, especially in a communial washing/ swigging scenario

90sforever · 27/12/2015 18:43

Iona Shock not rinsing causes intestinal cancer now does it? Did you dads friends hamster tell you
That one?

90sforever · 27/12/2015 18:44

Who uses that much washing up liquid that there are suds over everything? Is it a special brand?

bimandbam · 27/12/2015 18:46

I never rinse. Unless it's one of my good gin glasses.

How much wul are people using to see suda on the plates afyer they have been stood up to dry? The only time I ever see a residue on anything is when dp has.done the pots and instead of standing them up he stacks everything up like a game of jenga.

Never had a taste of wul but my mother is a fucker for bleaching cups and giving you coffee tasting faintly of domestos.

She needs to rinse then bim! :D

ChoccyLog · 27/12/2015 18:49

Oh I'm loving this :)
We have had a mention of the penis beaker.

Washing dishes and penis beakers. What is the connection? You could only read it here.

SpecialistSnowflake · 27/12/2015 18:50

I use one of those sponge on a stick things that you fill with washing up liquid. Everything would taste disgusting if I didn't rinse the soap off! The only other option would be to dunk it back in the dirty water...

My parents never used to rinse, which is why all dinners came with a faint aftertaste of Fairy.

roundaboutthetown · 27/12/2015 18:52

Gross washing up habits: having a bloody silly washing up bowl clogging up a perfectly good sink; and not bothering to rinse the detergent suds off your washing up, so that people who actually have working taste buds can taste your Fairy Liquid flavoured tea when they visit. One thing I know for sure is that I do not want my oesophagus so stripped of grease, so I have no great desire to ingest detergent.

eastwest · 27/12/2015 18:52

I wash up three times a day and I don't rinse because all I want is to get this boring job over with and get on with the rest of my life.
My husband washes up once a week, and rinses dutifully.
If he did it as much as I do, I guarantee he wouldn't rinse either.
How much housework does DBro do, I wonder?
(and yes, we do intend to buy a dishwasher, as soon as we've bought a house with a kitchen big enough to fit one in :))

eastwest · 27/12/2015 18:53

And yep - no one's died yet. Can't believe people get worked up about this and am delighted not to be visited by, or to cook for, anyone uptight enough to care.

eastwest · 27/12/2015 18:55

Intestinal cancer - seriously LOLed at that one. I didn't know you could get Fox News in the UK.

whoseafraidofnaomiwolf · 27/12/2015 18:57

Haven't read the whole thread, so apologies if I'm repeating already given suggestions, but the rule I follow is:

If the dish is being dried up immediately (i.e. with a tea towel) then it doesn't need to be rinsed as the soap suds will be rubbed off. If the dish is set to drain-dry then it must be rinsed.

So, sorry OP - YABU & your brother would be right in our house.

pollylovespie · 27/12/2015 19:01

roundaboutthetown, you are completely right on all counts.
A guy I worked with never rinsed when he 'washed' the cups and I often had slightly bubbly soapy tasting coffee. Bleurgh. And dish bowls are one of my real pet hates.

theycallmemellojello · 27/12/2015 19:02

It would never occur to me to put soapy dishes on the drying rack I have to say! But I'm intrigued by how a "blazing row! about rinsing dishes goes. Do tell OP...

GnomePhone · 27/12/2015 19:02

The 'rubbing off' theory doesnt really hold up - but then if you're not bothered by ingesting suds and their contents then that's fair enough.
