Just had a blazing row with "D"Bro over rinising dishes after washing them.

I went to put a plate I was washing on the drainer and he roared at me for not rinsing it

Confused

Who is the weirdo here?

Of course you need to rinse. If you put a dirty plate into a bowl and rub it until it's "clean", where has the dirt gone? It's in the water. The water that is now covering the plate. Washing water is dirty and bubbly and needs rinsing.

TaliZorah · 27/12/2015 15:42

I rinse sometimes but don't others. Is it really a big deal?

DarthSwanson · 27/12/2015 15:43

The thought of eating off a plate that has been washed in stagnant dirty water and then not rinsed has just made my stomach churn. Yuck.

Housewife2010 · 27/12/2015 15:43

I always rinse them, but often in cold water to save on the hot water. I think not rinsing them is very unsanitary and wouldn't fancy eating or drinking in a house with unrinsed crockery or cutlery.

Floggingmolly · 27/12/2015 15:43

Of course you rinse them! Would you be happy to drink the washing up water?

BlackGirlAndRobin · 27/12/2015 15:46

I always rinse.

Is it a British thing not to? I've only ever come across non rinsing over here, having lived in various places around the world.

There's nothing worse than having a cup of tea at someone's house with the faintest taste of fairly liquid. Yuk!

hibbleddible · 27/12/2015 15:46

Dishes need rinsing. It is pretty yucky not too.

He shouldn't have shouted though.

Gruntfuttock · 27/12/2015 15:47

I always rinse under the hot tap.

TheSecondViola · 27/12/2015 15:47

Of course you do. Why would you want to eat washing up liquid?

Gruntfuttock · 27/12/2015 15:48

Oh, I'm so sorry, OP, I forgot to answer your question.
You are the weirdo.

Birdsgottafly · 27/12/2015 15:51

Always rinse.

Next you'll be telling us that you dry them with a tea towel.

ThursdayLastWeek · 27/12/2015 15:51

Gosh, I only rinse glasses - mainly because of the streaks left otherwise.

I don't have enough room in my sink to have a tap running the whole time. Or am squeamish enough to give much of a shit TBH Grin

FixItUpChappie · 27/12/2015 15:52

Fascinating. I've never heard of people not rinsing.....makes every logical sense to do so Confused

Bambambini · 27/12/2015 15:53

Well, looks like the rinses have it.

OddSocksHighHeels · 27/12/2015 15:54

I always rinse. I don't want to eat washing up liquid. He was definitely wrong to yell over it though.

jevoudrais · 27/12/2015 15:55

Rinse rinse rinse. And always leave to air dry not tea towel drying.

NewLife4Me · 27/12/2015 15:56

Your dbro is a weirdo for roaring at you tbh.
Sometimes I rinse plates, sometimes I don't.
I try to rinse soap off glasses though.

Grumpyoldblonde · 27/12/2015 15:56

Rinse- yes of course, blazing row? Weird thing to row about indeed.

megletthesecond · 27/12/2015 15:57

Yabu.

He didn't have to get arsey and shout though.

hollieberrie · 27/12/2015 15:58

You are. Always rinse obvs.

PlasticPinkFlamingo · 27/12/2015 15:59

Rinse, rinse, rinse. As a foreigner it utterly baffles me that some people in this country (MIL included) don't rinse after washing.

thunderbird69 · 27/12/2015 15:59

I always rinse.

I'm guessing it was festive stress that probably caused the row!

SevenOfNineTrue · 27/12/2015 16:00

I never rinse dishes. That is a bit strange to me.

VintageDresses · 27/12/2015 16:00

Ringers, can you tell the difference if you're served food on an unrinsed plate?

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 27/12/2015 16:01

I always rinse, especially glasses. Stops them going all smeary from the bubbles drying and rinses any residue of stuff that was in the water. Especially if it had been something like mashed potato being washed off stuff.
