Just had a blazing row with "D"Bro over rinising dishes after washing them.

I went to put a plate I was washing on the drainer and he roared at me for not rinsing it

Confused

Who is the weirdo here?

I wouldn't have an argument about it (unless it was DH, DS, or DD) but yes to rinsing.

I might not always do plates but I always rinse glasses, kid's drink bottles etc.

Can't stand bubbles on my stuff.

KathyCantDoInteriors · 27/12/2015 16:03

No, I don't rinse.

lorelei9 · 27/12/2015 16:03

always rinse.

Katedotness1963 · 27/12/2015 16:04

I rinse the glasses. What a waste of water to keep running water to rinse clean dishes.

wowfudge · 27/12/2015 16:04

Well growing up with unrinsed-after-washing-dishes didn't hurt me and I could never taste wul on anything. I only rinse glasses, but they are about all I hand wash as we have a dishwasher. You do need to use very hot water though and change it if necessary part way through.

Dipankrispaneven · 27/12/2015 16:05

SevenOfNine, why is the concept of rinsing strange? Do you really think it's OK to leave dirty, soapy water to dry on crockery, cutlery and glass? Would you be happy to wear unrinced clothes?

VegetablEsoup · 27/12/2015 16:05

I can def taste it!

Ta1kinPeece · 27/12/2015 16:07

If I am washing up by hand I put a bowl or pan or dish in the sink with all the little things in is and it catches the water from everything else as I rinse it - thus soaking the last things with the water from the first.

Dishwashers use a lot less water though - 2 large saucepans (11 litres) does everything I can squeeze into it .

Dipankrispaneven · 27/12/2015 16:07

How can it be a waste of water, Katedotness? Do you think it's a waste of water to rinse your clean clothes or hair after washing?

And Vintage, yes, I can tell the difference, particularly if drinking out of unrinsed cups.

HeadfirstForHalos · 27/12/2015 16:08

Not rinsing is rank! Mil invaded the kitchen to do the washing up Christmas day despite our protests to leave them, she just dunked them in dirty soapy water, swished then around a bit, and plopped them on the drainer covered in dirty suds and bits of food Envy Gross. She then dirtied 3 of our new nice tea towels drying them, used one of the dirty tea towels to wipe down the sides after using flash with bleach and ruined it. I'm buying a lock for the kitchen door for next year 😁

Charlesroi · 27/12/2015 16:10

We always rinse glasses, cups and cutlery. Usually plates and pots - it depends on grubbiness

VintageDresses · 27/12/2015 16:11

This is all very odd. I'm not comfortable socially and the way I deal with parties or other large events is to make myself useful.

I have washed up or helped wash up at literally hundreds of events and I have never seen anyone rinse crockery. Yet apparently that's the way it should be done. Only on MN?

mintoil · 27/12/2015 16:13

I have never rinsed and am old and embarrassingly well. However, I think this is a red herring as the aggressive way DB treated you. If anyone roared at me I would quietly get my coat and not go back. If he was in your house I hope you told him to leave?

GnomePhone · 27/12/2015 16:13

As others have said you'd never just dry your hair after shampooing without rinsing the suds out first, or hang up washing if it was still full of dirty washing powder suds! Or wash your hands with soap then not rinse the soap off.

It needn't be wasteful of water to rinse if you start the washing up with a minimal amount of water and a soapy sponge, then keep the tap running over the washing up bowl and rinse as it fills.

cozietoesie · 27/12/2015 16:14

I do it in the way Gnome suggested.

steff13 · 27/12/2015 16:16

I don't handwash dishes anymore if I can possibly avoid it, but when I do, it goes: wash, rinse, dry. I can't imagine not rinsing.

IvyWall · 27/12/2015 16:17

I always rinse. Always have from when I was a child helping my mother do the dishes.

Although most stuff goes in the dishwasher these days

Debbriana1 · 27/12/2015 16:17

What ? What ? What ????????!!

Why would not rinse the soap? I would be screaming my fucking head off. The smell of soap, the fact that you would be eating the soap, gross.

tibbawyrots · 27/12/2015 16:17

The word rinse Is looking odd to me now as I've read it so many times in succession 🚿

We always rinse and also wash down the drainer before washing up. 🚰

FruVikingessOla · 27/12/2015 16:17

No, it's not only on MN Vintage. WUL residue is not nice.

Donkey's years ago, when I was a kid and dishwashers were a luxury - and we didn't have one anyway - my Mum always made sure that the washing up was rinsed.

takemetomars · 27/12/2015 16:18

nope, never rinsed, 49 years old and the constitution of an Ox. Haven't managed to kill the kids either, or any guests.

TiredButFineODFOJ · 27/12/2015 16:18

Always rinse, though in the uk it isn't usually the case

AdoraBell · 27/12/2015 16:20

I always rinse the detergent off, but I also never put up with anyone reacting the way your DB did OP

To answer your question, his is the weirdo for roaring at anyone over such a trivial thing.

Debbriana1 · 27/12/2015 16:23

Reading this am gobsmacked by people who don't rinse. All I can smell now is the soap. Yes you can tell the difference for a plate, cup or glass that has not been rinsed.

Headofthehive55 · 27/12/2015 16:25

You might rinse your hair after washing....but there will be some residue left...otherwise it wouldn't smell so nice and the conditioner only works if it is left to soak in a little, if you rinsed it all away then it wouldn't be nice and soft and slippery. You rinse the excess away but some will be there....just saying!

I can't tell if things have been rinsed or not to be honest.
