To hate the disingenuous, lying, underhand Hunting Brigade and there ongoing campaign to bring back fox hunting

Boomingmarvellous · 26/12/2015 09:56

I hate fox hunting with horses and hounds. It's cruel and barbaric. That's my only objection. I don't mind shooting foxes if they are predating livestock like chickens and lambs. The rest should be left in peace to maintain their place in rural life.

The Hunting brigade and the Countryside Alliance have lied about everything to support their 'sport'. Not least the mass euthanasia of hounds and horses and loss of countryside jobs if it was banned. 10 years on it is more popular then ever.

They still 'accidentally' kill foxes who stray across their path. Why? Because the trail they lay is still concocted to smell of foxes. They have had 10 years to raise hounds to follow a different scent. Dogs can be trained to pick up the scent of anything so why stick to fox? Of course it's because they knew if a conservative government got in they would change the law back again.

Thank you SNP for scotching that idea.

I've been waiting for this thread. What is it you get excited about the other 364 days of the year, OP?

Football? Huge drain on resources of the police and councils, violent uneducated drunkards cheering on overpaid arrogant arseholes.

I'd ban football over hunting. Same goes for golf, hugely damaging to the environment.

The OP has privacy concerns, and so we've agreed to take this down now.

OurBlanche · 26/12/2015 14:39

Same goes for golf, hugely damaging to the environment. Especially in Aberdeenshire or County Clare Smile

WorraLiberty · 26/12/2015 14:45

I eat meat.

I would still question the mentality of of someone who worked in an abattoir, and practically knocked out a wank of happiness at killing animals for sport.

Again, if they were pulling the legs off live spiders for 'sport', questions would be asked about their state of mind.

OurBlanche · 26/12/2015 14:47

Oh and as for the argument that theres "hundreds of years of tradition and a huge economy" involved I fox hunting, well that exact same argument was used for the abolishment of slavery, maybe we could set up a few slave markets on boxing day too?

  1. Fox hunting has changed, it has been quite different, for a decade now
  2. Slavery, mmm. Not entirely sure that connection works, taking the fox out of the equation has only made the sport more popular, rake in more money

But never mind. I can see that nothing that is said, no change in law etc tec will change the histrionics.

Out of interest redannie do you eat prawns? There is a theory that they change colour when netted, due to stress! Cows, and other animals, are flooded with hormones when taken to the abbatoir, due to stress. Let alone the changes to the original, natural behaviour we engender in meat animals to make them easier to farm. It is only a matter of the extent to which the animal you will happily eat has been stressed/changed that is different.

As others have said, if hunting animals bothers you that much, you really should be veggie. Or your hypocrisy will eventually show!

Pantone363 · 26/12/2015 14:51

I love the way it's called traditional, like that should carry any weight.

It's also "traditional" for gypsy men to hare course with dogs. They've been doing it for generations, is that taken into account when (rightly) enforcing the ban?

TaliZorah · 26/12/2015 14:54

I only eat free range meat and even then only very small amounts so the hypocrisy argument doesn't hold any weight

TaliZorah · 26/12/2015 14:54

worra exactly

catfordbetty · 26/12/2015 14:56

Pinkponiesrock

Your post is most odd. You seem to suggest that dogs are simply manifesting their evolutionary destiny while foxes are choosing (anthropomorphically) to be "ruthless" and "indiscriminate".

catfordbetty · 26/12/2015 15:00

I only eat free range meat and even then only very small amounts so the hypocrisy argument doesn't hold any weight

Those organic pigs don't conveniently commit suicide before agreeing to become your bacon sandwich. And things still count even if you don't do them very often.

Supermanspants · 26/12/2015 15:06

The problem with these threads is that most people vehemently against don't seem to know much about it.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.... that old fucking chestnut

I used to hunt. I know an awful lot about it.
It needs to stay banned and the act strengthened

TaliZorah · 26/12/2015 15:16

Catford I only eat chicken and fish, and the reason I do that is because I become very protein deficient otherwise.

No they don't commit suicide but it's not comparable to taking joy from murdering animals

LumelaMme · 26/12/2015 15:18

I have never hunted, but I can completely see how a drag hunt, following a pack of hounds, over hedges and ditches, is completely different from going on even a very lively hack. There is an absolute fascination in seeing dogs work, for one thing, and an adrenaline-high ride for another.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 26/12/2015 15:25

Supermanspants, they always say that don't they? Grin

If you're anti fox hunting you're obviously an ignorant townie.

So. Fucking. Patronising.

RiverTam · 26/12/2015 15:27

Worra - if no-one worked in an abattoir who's going to kill the meat you choose to eat and presumably enjoy eating? You? Are you saying that everyone who works in an abattoir wants to and enjoys it? I don't understand what you're saying.

The fact that some people only eat free-range doesn't take away from the fact that a lot of meat bought and consumed in this country is produced using pretty unpleasant methods (and are you 100% sure that the meat you eat in restaurants or at other people's houses is ethically produced?). It also doesn't change the fact that if you choose to eat meat then you are enjoying the end result of the unnecessary death of an animal.

Supermanspants · 26/12/2015 15:27

Why is it that those who support the hunting and killing of our indigenous wildlife for sport, tradition and fun (remember.... this is not just about foxes) always ALWAYS resort to the 'Do you eat meat?" query???

I have noticed over the years that the veggie question is usually rolled out when all other pro hunt arguments are dead in the water.

Supermanspants · 26/12/2015 15:28

Lumpy
The hunt yard I worked at.... all but one of our clients (15) lived in London Grin

RiverTam · 26/12/2015 15:41

Super I don't support hunting. I'm responding to comments made about how vile it is to enjoy killing animals etc. I find that there's a lot of hypocrisy when it comes to hunting. I also, more importantly, think that there are more important animal welfare issues that should be dealt with over and above hunting. If anyone is interested in setting up some kind of campaign group in endure that all meat and animal products sold in the UK were ethically produced I would support that.

I don't think that the hunting ban should be repealed now it's in place but in comparison i can't get that bothered by the fate of a few foxes. They all seemed to have moved to my london street where they're doing quite nicely anyway.

OurBlanche · 26/12/2015 15:43

I love the way it's called traditional, like that should carry any weight.

Ah! So you don't have any family traditions then? No favoured names, no paternal surname (or maternal for that matter), no roots in any particular area, no accent... no Easter/Christmas, no Bank Holidays, no summer holidays, no seaside holidays... etc etc

It's not a matter of weight ! Blech!

TaliZorah · 26/12/2015 15:45

Tradition carries no weight. If it's a good idea carry on with it if it doesn't get rid of it. Nothing to do with tradition

dejarderoncar · 26/12/2015 15:47

Why do some posters here insist on muddying the waters? The opposition to fox hunting is perfectly clear and unambiguous,

FOX hunting, NOT drag or whatever you want to call it hunting, is wrong because

killing a living being for SPORT is wrong.

Why is that so hard to understand?

Supermanspants · 26/12/2015 15:47

Oh for goodness sake blanche.... comparing the killing of our indigenous wildlife with family traditions, bank holidays, family holidays....really??? Hmm
That said, it is good you have posted such bollox..... simply further reinforces how weak the pro hunt argument is and how ridiculous you people are in trying to defend the gratuitous killing of animals for fun.

Supermanspants · 26/12/2015 15:48

I don't think that the hunting ban should be repealed now it's in place but in comparison i can't get that bothered by the fate of a few foxes

The why are you commenting on this thread?

dejarderoncar · 26/12/2015 15:52

our blanche I live in Spain. What do you think about bullfighting? The conservative government here want to allow it even in regions which have independently banned it, such as Catalunya, because it is considered by them to be Spanish Patrimony, ie traditional heritage.

Bufra · 26/12/2015 15:52

These are halcyon days for hunting! Its more popular than ever before. The more violent sabs are a pain but apart from that it all works very well at the moment.
