To remind people that the shops are only shut for one fucking day?!

Please, give me strength. Why do so many people panic buy, pile their trollies Sky high and get rude and stroppy with retail staff at this time of year? No, Armageddon isn't coming, it's Christmas! The shops are shut for a grand of one day, 24 hours later they will open again on the morning of Boxing Day. Please consider this when you are filling you're trollies with about 17 pints of milk and 20 loaves of bread or having a go at a sales assistant for ruining your Xmas. I wonder how people coped back in the days when the shops shut for several days?!

My Facebook feed is full of stories of people fighting over sprouts and having fights in car parks because they are so busy. I went passed my local Morrisons earlier and the traffic was backed up around the car park and onto the road.

Quite frankly if you leave it all until the last minute to do your shopping you are a knob who needs to be more organised next year, and honestly the sky will not fall in if you don't have sprouts on your plate come xmas day.

People need to getting a sodding grip!

We are feeding loads of people over the next few days. We need loads of stuff. I don't want to go out to the shops for at least 5 days. I don't want to go shopping on Boxing Day, thank you very much.

I hate it when people assume that people think they will starve because the shops are shut for 24 hours.

ITS NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT!!!

People are going to the supermarket a day or two before xmas because they want fresh things for xmas and boxing day meals.

You need to go to the supermarket as close to christmas as possible for food to be as fresh as possible.

Who wants to serve guests or their family a xmas dinner from fresh with ingredients that they bought a week before xmas?

Although wth Dd and Dh at home in the day, every day this week, they've eaten all the bread and I want a sandwich! So now I have to go to the shops just for some bloody bread and night nurse.

1.I like eating fresh food on christmas day.

  1. I will be entertaining several times over the christmas period. Christmas eve, christmas day, and the 27th, feeding up to 14 people at a time.
  1. All the family will be at home for 2 weeks, normally will eat at school or work, but need supplies in to eat at home. I don't want to be back at the supermarket on boxing day.
  1. Shops do run out of stuff.

saw a lass in poundland she bought all the semi skimmed milk on the shelf she couldn't carry it to the till and was pushing it along the floor

i bought my stuff ages ago i will pop out tomorrow and see about some fresh broccoli if not i won't mind being broccolli free Grin im spending tomorrow making mince pies and prepping the tatties for friday im going for a stress free christmas this year!

It's nothing to do with the shops only shutting for 24 hours, it's because after today I have no desire to step foot in a shop for as long as possible, and we have loads of people coming round Christmas day, boxing day, and before New Years eve :)

But yes, people should chill out and not stress, it wasn't too bad in morrisons earlier tbh

Our supermarkets are closed for 2 days, then open on reduced hours for the following two days. Normal hours not resuming til Tuesday.

When I was a child my mother fed 8 of us on Christmas Day, she had no fridge or freezer and had to do all the shopping by walking to the shops pushing the child she child mined and carried it all home with mine and my sisters help. I don't remember any stress or worry about this and the shops were shut for 4 days including the corner shops. We certainly didn't starve as we had three good meals s day. The only thing we had delivered was milk, 2 days at a time which we then kept in a bucket of water in the back garden to keep it cool.

no fresh fruit doesn't last long but people aren't buying fresh fruit they are buying tinned biscuits crackers crisps uht milk all things that could have been bought ages ago without a fuss even the bread need not be bought now it could have been bought and frozen

I did my Christmas shop online and forgot stuff, I'm sending dh out tomorrow to stock up.

I've never seen fighting in supermarkets, especially over sprouts [ got those Xmas Wink]

But, I usually shop daily (live and work near town) and now I don't have to shop until next Tuesday. I won't shop on boxing day or bank hols so I've stocked up a bit.

It's nuts bag packed at a supermarket the week before Christmas as a fund raiser. The stuff people buy is nuts. I just wonder how much never gets drunk / eaten.

As a side point the fuller the trolley the tighter the owners. We found the 10 items or less to be the best givers.

Made 10,000 over 5 days so was worth doing.

The need for fresh food is all well and good, but how do you explain those people who clear shelves of milk and bread? Why do you even need to do that?
