To remind people that the shops are only shut for one fucking day?!

Please, give me strength. Why do so many people panic buy, pile their trollies Sky high and get rude and stroppy with retail staff at this time of year? No, Armageddon isn't coming, it's Christmas! The shops are shut for a grand of one day, 24 hours later they will open again on the morning of Boxing Day. Please consider this when you are filling you're trollies with about 17 pints of milk and 20 loaves of bread or having a go at a sales assistant for ruining your Xmas. I wonder how people coped back in the days when the shops shut for several days?!

My Facebook feed is full of stories of people fighting over sprouts and having fights in car parks because they are so busy. I went passed my local Morrisons earlier and the traffic was backed up around the car park and onto the road.

Quite frankly if you leave it all until the last minute to do your shopping you are a knob who needs to be more organised next year, and honestly the sky will not fall in if you don't have sprouts on your plate come xmas day.

People need to getting a sodding grip!

Instant coffee is much cheaper and last longer than the fancy stuff

Well that's as maybe but it tastes like shit. Instant and real coffee are not comparable.

abbsismyhero · 23/12/2015 16:37

ive drank my christmas booze it was very nice

gandalf456 · 23/12/2015 16:38

I prefer the taste of instant coffee but don't tell anyone. Wink

abbsismyhero · 23/12/2015 16:39

could be worse gandalf i don't really drink coffee so forget to offer it my guests help themselves

gandalf456 · 23/12/2015 16:39

Isn't being frugal trendy now?

NameChanger22 · 23/12/2015 16:39

I didn't buy any milk and only one loaf of bread. I intend to live on crisps, wine and cheese this Christmas.

revealall · 23/12/2015 16:41

YANBU.

It's got worse the more food is available, the cheaper it gets, the better packed for freshness, the longer opening hours.

Anyone who doesn't recognise that you don't need "fresh" food one or two days before ( rather than 3 or 4) is a knob. How on earth did everyone cope before.
Happy Christmas.

GlitteryHair · 23/12/2015 16:41

Real coffee is nicer and smells gorgeous, but it's so expensive to buy.

People are going to the supermarket a day or two before xmas because they want fresh things for xmas and boxing day meals.

No, they really aren't. That wouldn't account for the people staggering around with trolleys overflowing and, in a few cases I've seen, two or more trolleys full.

If people are doing it because they don't want to have to go out again for five days, fine, but why then get so panicky and stressed about it? It's a purely self-imposed problem. It won't in reality be the end of the world if you need to pop out to the shops on day 5 if you run out of bread.

GlitteryHair · 23/12/2015 16:43

The voice of reason revealall

Fresh veg can keep for up to a week. It doesn't need to be panic bought 24 hours before!

How is it insulting? The big supermarkets are open 24/7 on the run up to xmas. There is no need for the manic rush that happenes today and will no doubt happen tomorrow.

As I said earlier, my DH gets paid tomorrow (as will approximately 2000 other people in his firm).

Luckily we didn't need the wage packet for Christmas shopping, but I'm sure plenty of others will.

memyselfandaye · 23/12/2015 16:45

I'm in Cumbria, our city was devasted by floods a few weeks ago, Sainsburys only re-opened yesterday, Tesco has a temp shop in the car park, Asda was over a bridge that only got certified safe last week, and hundreds of people are homeless.
So Im guessing a lot of families will have many more mouths to feed as they will have taken in those friends and relatives who won't move back into their own homes for six months or more.

We don't all have turkey to make endless awful leftovers with, some of us think its crap so have rib of beef and lobster instead, and I'm going shopping to M&S for that tomorrow when I'm finished work.

I won't be clearing the shelves of milk or sliced bread, I don't buy it.

Who cares why people choose to shop today and tomorrow?

Some of us like the last minute rush to get everything.

citybushisland · 23/12/2015 16:46

I don't get paid until tomorrow, I do have most things already but the booze, biscuits, cheese etc need to be bought tomorrow we have the essentials - turkey and so on and could manage fine without wine, but I don't want to :)
and urrrgh I have to go into the city centre to collect 2 items that are on order for the teenagers.

Sameshitdiffname · 23/12/2015 16:48

Never once has chips on Boxing Day!

Youarentkiddingme · 23/12/2015 16:51

I did my shop Tuesday - because I got paid. Stopped off for fresh bread/rolls in local tesco on way back from my parents earlier.

I've bought more than normal for a week because

A) we have guests Christmas Eve. There are just 3 of them and I'm doing a buffet - a wide variety which means we'll be eating the same for days!

B) I go to my parents Christmas Day and don't have Boxing Day leftovers of a hot meal.

C) I have been to the shops far more than usual the past month or so looking for Christmas gifts, crafting for gifts etc and don not fancy going to do a shop on Boxing Day.

I usually do a food shop Sunday. This week I held off until Tuesday so only had to do it once and do not plan on going again until Sunday as usual. Why would I?

CandlesAreBurning · 23/12/2015 16:53

Erm you need to clear shelves of bread and milk when you've got 14 people for 3 lots if breakfast and endless cups of tea!

Never had turkey and chips for Boxing Day, no thanks to that!

Greengardenpixie · 23/12/2015 16:54

I got paid so i went shopping today. It looked like a lot but it was just a normal family shop for 5 people. I did throw in a few extras but i have kind of got all the extra treats. I know I will be back for some stuff for New Year but I dont mind that tbh.

CheshireChat · 23/12/2015 16:55

We get paid today and couldn't afford to buy the last of the presents and food. We've been eating whatever's left. So we'll buy all the Christmas food today and tomorrow, but thanks for pointing out how inadequate we are Hmm.

That sounds fab Dixie, I am pondering a poke into the Christmas cheeses.

trufflehunterthebadger · 23/12/2015 17:00

I don't understand why anyone would go to the trouble of cooking another big meal on Boxing Day? What a faff when you could have Turkey sandwiches, Turkey curry, Turkey salad etc instead

tricksy if you're eating beef like us....

sooperdooper · 23/12/2015 17:02

I saw a man earlier with 5!! big joints of beef in his trolley - but not a lot else, and he was near this tills, beef with more beef for Christmas anyone??
