To remind people that the shops are only shut for one fucking day?!

Please, give me strength. Why do so many people panic buy, pile their trollies Sky high and get rude and stroppy with retail staff at this time of year? No, Armageddon isn't coming, it's Christmas! The shops are shut for a grand of one day, 24 hours later they will open again on the morning of Boxing Day. Please consider this when you are filling you're trollies with about 17 pints of milk and 20 loaves of bread or having a go at a sales assistant for ruining your Xmas. I wonder how people coped back in the days when the shops shut for several days?!

My Facebook feed is full of stories of people fighting over sprouts and having fights in car parks because they are so busy. I went passed my local Morrisons earlier and the traffic was backed up around the car park and onto the road.

Quite frankly if you leave it all until the last minute to do your shopping you are a knob who needs to be more organised next year, and honestly the sky will not fall in if you don't have sprouts on your plate come xmas day.

People need to getting a sodding grip!

this thing about people buying 50 cartons of UHT - I shop in Aldi and I notice that kind of thing quite often, throughout the year. I was actually wondering if some businesses are doing that rather than using their caterers.

intothewoods · 23/12/2015 16:28

You are very rude OP and do not understand.

I have 9 people for a week, I ain't going shopping every other day to feed them all.

I did it all on-line and it arrived yesterday. If I couldn't shop on-line and as in years before it was possible, I would have been one of those poor shoppers in that supermarket today that you love to hate and vilify.

Yes and Merry Christmas to you to (with your chips and turkey sarnies...)

GlitteryHair · 23/12/2015 16:29

One thing I've not done on this discussion is resort to personal insults directed at other users. So Im unsure as to why you think it's acceptable to make personal insults Supermanspants?

Yes. Who drinks that?

GlitteryHair · 23/12/2015 16:30

Indeed UHT milk is vile Sparklingbrook.

It's not 'as big as Christmas', but it's a day when I and many others will have a houseful and will want to feed them! What is so hard to understand?

My thoughts exactly

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/12/2015 16:30

chips and Turkey sarnies Grin.

Not everyone does that on Boxing Day. Some people like to put on a bit of a spread.

freezingmog · 23/12/2015 16:31

Really gittery?

"Quite frankly if you leave it all until the last minute to do your shopping you are a knob who needs to be more organised next year,"

Although not directed at anyone specifically, that is very insulting.

Sparklingbrook · 23/12/2015 16:32

Is it Glittery? I didn't know whether it was just a crime if combined with the other MN horror INSTANT COFFEE. Shock Grin

Pipbin · 23/12/2015 16:32

I don't understand why anyone would go to the trouble of cooking another big meal on Boxing Day? What a faff when you could have Turkey sandwiches, Turkey curry, Turkey salad etc instead.

I don't eat meat, there will be no leftovers.

When I was little we would have Christmas Day at home then over to my grandparents for Boxing Day with another Christmas dinner and presents from them.
That was 40 years ago.
Doing something in Boxing Day is hardly a new invention.

How is it insulting? The big supermarkets are open 24/7 on the run up to xmas. There is no need for the manic rush that happenes today and will no doubt happen tomorrow.

Sparklingbrook · 23/12/2015 16:34

I have Dixie fancy a glass? Wine

I would have thought any self respecting Prepper would have UHT milk as an essential.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 23/12/2015 16:35

Well, you know what, I don't like cold meats, sandwiches, salad and trifle. I'll buy what I do like, cook it, and eat it, and you do what you like, eh?

gandalf there's a thread in Etiquette about instant coffee possibly being social suicide. Confused It's quite a funny read.

freezingmog · 23/12/2015 16:35

dixie- is it too early for a christmas drink?

GlitteryHair · 23/12/2015 16:35

Instant coffee is much cheaper and last longer than the fancy stuff Wink

Pipbin · 23/12/2015 16:36

Anyone opened the Christmas booze yet?

I've drunk it all and had the replacement delivered.

Not at all Dixie. The last time I had a Baileys I got served a pint of it with a straw. Grin

abbsismyhero · 23/12/2015 16:36

I find the idea that you'd give the other side of the family (which is common with families hosting 2 days on the run) the left overs from the feast you made for the other set of grandparents/siblings the day before seems... cheap and rude.

or economizing and frugal

i think ive worked it out ive been raise in a frugal environment hence christmas excess makes no sense to me at all my whole family is like this and while we like our excess we don't like waste and will happily eat leftovers things made from leftovers combined with homemade puds (we are pudding mad there is never any leftover pudding)

(back in my happy box)
