'You probably post those sort of stories on FB.'

I'm not even on facebook or twitter.

'Only in the Daily Mail world. I have never met anyone like that'

Didn't you read how the woman at Liverpool Street was scared of saying merry christmas to fuzzywuzzy in case it offended her? It's happening, it is real, but it will fail and political correctness will fail.

claig · 19/12/2015 22:35

'and wants to believe it's happening'

Why do you think Clare in the Community is so funny? It is because it is not a joke, it is real.

'Not because they'd be offended - but because they aren't sure if they celebrate it.'

But it has nothing to do with whether anyone celebrates it. It is just a common custom. When I say merry christmas to the postman, I don't know if he is an atheist, a satanist or anything else, I still say it because it is a custom of goodwill at this time of year when we have a national holiday because of Christmas.

claig · 19/12/2015 22:52

'I wouldn't be offended. Just surprised.'

And as far as I know, Muslims aren't offended if someone says Merry Christmas to them, why would they be? If someone said Eid Mubarak or Happy Diwali to me, I wouldn't be offended, I would treat it as being a custom and a sign of goodwill.

The only people offended by any of this seem to be the politically correct council officials.

'Rebranding Christmas: More public bodies are refusing to give festival its name for fear of causing offence

Stoke-on-Trent has become the latest city council to shy away from tradition. But they are missing the point, and we all need to grow up'

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/rebranding-christmas-more-public-bodies-are-refusing-to-give-the-festival-its-name-for-fear-of-9923365.html

"Public bodies", "city council", the usual lot the state flunkies.

But they are going to lose. Tomorrow's Daily Mail says "Queen's Speech will be the most overtly Christian yet".

The state flunkies must be in meltdown.

claig · 19/12/2015 23:05

"Have yourself a merry little Winterfest. That's what they're calling the season in Stoke-on-Trent, the latest city council to go utterly bonkers and rebrand Christmas.

Forget Santa and his reindeer, let alone the little baby Jesus – the switching on of Stoke's lights featured a giant Jack Frost freezing the streets with a firebird chasing him down. Cue outrage.

"The politically correct brigade on the council think it's fair game to discriminate against Christians by calling Christmas 'Winterfest'," said Edward Cook, one of many residents who complained to the Stoke Sentinel. "I assume it is so that Muslims are not offended."

And Edward Cook is totally wrong. Muslims aren't offended, it is the council flunkies, the state's funtionaries who are offended and do all of this and ignorant people assume it is because Muslims are offended. They don't realise it is the state flunkies whose wages we all pay for that are behind all of this political correctness.

'The fact you can only find one sort of implies that most councils aren't doing what you think they are doing.'

I only looked for the first one. There will be lots more. State flunkies seeking promotion do that kind of thing. But the tide has turned. A sign of the change is the fact that the Queen's Speech will apparently be the most Christian yet on Christmas Day.

claig · 19/12/2015 23:15

'did you read that "article" about Bute today?'

I only skimmed it because it did look a bit like propaganda to me, so I couldn't be bothered to read it all.

'An irrelevant unelected person'

She is our Head of State, she represents our country, she receives Presidents of other nations. The Queen's Speech is a tradition of our country and lots of people tune in if they are not already asleep after a heavy lunch and copious amounts of alcohol. Whether you agree with royalyty or not, it is part of the tradition of Christmas Day.

'I haven't seen the Queen's speech for years.'

Maybe you should watch this one.

'it's PC gone mad when people complain about such things and media treatment'

No it's not. I am not PC, I am against political correctness, but I didn't like that article which is why I just skimmed it.

'Traditions can change'

Of course they can. That is what the state flunkies and functionaries and politically correct councils are trying to do by as the Independent reports

"Rebranding Christmas: More public bodies are refusing to give festival its name for fear of causing offence"

But they will lose, the traditions will come back.

'I have no desire to listen to the thoughts of an unelected Head of State. The sooner we have a Republic, the better.'

I think the Queen is still much more popular than Tony Blair, or any politically correct state flunkey like him, and always will be.

claig · 19/12/2015 23:28

'It got very interesting. Lots of facts and statistics.'

Yes, I skimmed it, FreeWorker1 and JassyRadlett had some good info, but I didn't have the time or knowledge of science to join in.

Yes, I am all of those, that is being polite and considerate, not politically correct.

Politically correct is what the BBC, Tony Blair, the Blairites, the state flunkies, the councils, W1A and Clare in the Community are.

W1A is a brilliant comedy lampooning the politically correct insanity and publicly funded Oxbridge types that populate the BBC. It is a bit like Clare in the Community, only she is in Social services and W1A dominates our TV screens.

'You do realise Tony Blair has gone from power.'

I fully realise that and I say a prayer of thanks for that everyday. However, occasionally he is wheeled out to frighten children and good folk by making pronouncements on behalf of the Establishment, and he frightens some older people, who remember his misdeeds only too well, into thinking he might make an unwelcome comeback. Fortunately, he is gone and rightly forgotten, but his malign influence lingers in what is known as the Blairites or Red Tories, a more sychophantic bunch of greasy pole climbers it is impossible to find.
