Well I don't think so. I reckon it's polite and considerate to wish a person a merry Christmas. However, this is clearly not PC.

cleaty · 20/12/2015 00:27

W1A type people exist under the Tories and Labour. It is not so much about being politically correct, as having people with daft jobs, who are all from posh schools, and who don't know what they are doing.
In fact the Tories were particularly keen on bringing people in from senior industry positions to Local Government, who had no idea how things ran there, and made a mess. Local Government are accountable to elected Councillors, and that has an impact if you are a senior manager.

claig · 20/12/2015 00:32

cleaty, you are right, it is the same Oxbridge lot that run the top echelons of Labour, Conservative, the BBC etc. They are also all politically correct (i.e. daft). The modernisers in the Tory Party, Cameron et al, revere Tony Blair as a demi-god. Blair is their inspiration and they study his coached hand gestures and pregnant pauses in an attempt mimic what they call the "Master".

claig · 20/12/2015 00:34

'In fact the Tories were particularly keen on bringing people in from senior industry positions to Local Government, who had no idea how things ran there, and made a mess. '

Yes, that doesn't surprise me. Probably jobs for their mates and to make a bigger screwup in order to allow the hedge funds in to privatise the mess that was created by their mates.

claig · 20/12/2015 00:40

If you think I'm kidding about the "Master" and think they must have meant the "Masterbator", check this out

"Through much of his nine-year period as leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister, David Cameron has copied Tony Blair’s political strategies and emulated the Blairite system of foreign policy alliances.

This is deliberate. At a private dinner party during his leadership campaign, Mr Cameron reportedly said that he considered himself the “heir to Blair”. It is said that Mr Cameron and George Osborne both refer to Mr Blair as “the Master”, asking each other “what would the Master have done?” when in difficult situations. The Unfinished Revolution: How New Labour Changed British Politics Forever, written by Tony Blair’s late political strategist Philip Gould, is regarded within the Cameron circle with the same awe and veneration as a Bible.

It is not widely known that Mr Cameron often seeks advice from the former prime minister."

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/tony-blair/11299715/This-infatuation-with-Blair-will-damage-Camerons-reputation.html

Now we know why everything is going so swimmingly; they ask the "Master's" advice.

Toadinthehole · 20/12/2015 00:45

It's a modern form of paternalism; something both the Left and the Right are prone to, although the Left tend to be more controlling about it.

Also it resonates in the UK, where people are so prone to being offended by so very, very many things.

claig · 20/12/2015 00:56

Good points, Toadinthehole.

I just looked up the definition of paternalism

"the policy or practice on the part of people in authority of restricting the freedom and responsibilities of those subordinate to or otherwise dependent on them in their supposed interest."

It is about control. Political correctness is about control.

Remember that Blair, the "Master", is a moderniser, as are the Tory elites and they all come from Oxbridge on the same PPE course. Modernisers change "traditions". Christmas is a bit old-fashioned for some of the modernisers and the state functionaries who follow the paternalism.

Blair, the "Master's" Christmas card in 2014

"Perhaps this might be forgiven if the focus was not so completely on the Blairs themselves. But there is nothing to distract, because there is not a sign of Christmas anywhere.

There are no decorations in sight. Instead the Blairs pose in front of a very grand-looking window.

They don’t even mention Christmas.

‘Season’s Greetings’ is a politically correct message that avoids any particular religion. We should really call the Blair effort a ‘winter-time PR communication missive’ rather than a Christmas card."

claig · 20/12/2015 01:00

'They don’t even mention Christmas.' Grin

You have got to laugh really about these politically correct modernisers.

Toadinthehole · 20/12/2015 01:00

"Missive" is far too poetic. I'm sure you mean "memo".

claig · 20/12/2015 01:06

Maybe Cameron asked for the "Master's" advice on Christmas cards.

"PC gone mad? Row as David Cameron releases Christmas card with NO reference to Xmas

THE Prime Minister has been accused of "distancing himself" from Christmas following the release of his annual festive card.
...
The decidedly summery image makes no mention of Christmas or even winter with Mrs Cameron wearing a blue and black patterned dress with elbow-length sleeves and the Prime Minister in a dark blue suit and purple tie.

claig · 20/12/2015 01:09

'I'm sure you mean "memo"'

Yes Grin. Business as usual, nothing special about Christmas, it's not "modern".

Toadinthehole · 20/12/2015 03:48

Indeed. David Cameron could at least have sported a tie with Santa on it, but doubtlessly that would have offended someone too.

sashh · 20/12/2015 05:12

I do think it's the militant aetheists , the ones who want to compel everyone to beileve what they believe

I'm about s militant as they come, on a good day I make Dawkins look wishy washy.

I do not celebrate Christmas, get irritated by the inconvenience, shops too busy, not able to get things delivered etc.

But I don't give a shit if the person at the next desk wears a silly hat or has a light up jumper

DoctorTwo · 20/12/2015 06:14

Cameron is politically correct? The same Cameron who stuck his dick in a pig?

'Cameron is politically correct? The same Cameron who stuck his dick in a pig?'

'It is said that Mr Cameron and George Osborne both refer to Mr Blair as “the Master”, asking each other “what would the Master have done?” when in difficult situations.'

It doesn't bear thinking about what the "Master" would have done.

'Whereas the Royal Family definitely have a Christmas theme in their cards...'

I don't know if they do or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if they don't. What surprises me is that "the Queen's Speech will be the most overtly Christian yet" this year. That is why I mentioned it because I am surprised.

' That Cameron deliberately chose not to put anything Christmassy on his card because he thought it would offend people'

No, I think political correctness comes right from the top, above Cameron, above the "Master". The "Master", the BBC and Clare in the Community only follow its tenets like a religion.

But the tide is turning and Donald Trump is going to end political correctness which is why there is panic among the political correct classes worldwide and why the "Master" is probably in meltdown at the thought of it.

“The word Christmas: I love Christmas,” he [Trump] said. “I love Christmas. You go to stores now, you don’t see the word Christmas. It says, ‘Happy holidays’ all over. I say, ‘Where’s Christmas?’ I tell my wife, ‘Don’t go to those stores.’ “

“I want to see Christmas — no, I want to see Christmas,” he said to applause.

“And you know, other people can have their holidays … but Christmas is Christmas,” he said. “[Remember] the expression ‘Merry Christmas?’ You don’t see it anymore. You’re [going to] see it if I get elected, I can tell you right now. I can tell you right now.”

'I do believe that the Daily Mail might have published William and Kate's card'

But I am not interested in what they do or what the BBC does or what Cameron or the "Master" do. I don't read about political correctness, I ignore it.

Ooh, is it Donald Trump who's going on be 'tearing up our lawns" now? Grin

claig · 20/12/2015 09:39

Those are off topic, but I am against putting flouride in our water and am against the New World Order.

"G20 summit: Gordon Brown announces 'new world order'

Gordon Brown announced the creation of a "new world order" after the conclusion of the G20 summit of world leaders in London."

www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/g20-summit/5097195/G20-summit-Gordon-Brown-announces-new-world-order.html

I am for Donald Trump, common sense and Merry Christmas and against the "Master" and all of his politically correct minions.
