not sure what stats are predicting a christian majority, as there is NO such majority now world wide, What has been predicted is that the rising birth rate in muslim families and the declining BR in C families , means that there will be an ever increasing muslim majority.

I love this. It is written in response to the banning of the Lord's Prayer ad (yes, yes, I know this has been debated to death) but is relevant within this debate:

'We live in topsy-turvy times. Religious beliefs that were once considered central to Western society’s values are now being cleansed from public life. But this is not simply the product of society moving on from its past beliefs. The estrangement of European elites from Christianity is symptomatic of a broader Western self-loathing and rejection of universal values.

As its press statement demonstrated, DCM’s rejection of the ad sprung from a relativistic refusal to show any political or religious values at all. Again, this resonates with many so-called progressives, who think that one set of beliefs should not be seen as the standard against which others should be measured. The fact that, in the past, the promotion of mainstream beliefs often entailed persecuting other, dissident belief systems has led many to embrace relativism. Yet while the descent into a non-judgemental form of cultural pluralism may seem progressive, fair and open-minded, it is actually a rejection of universal truth; it is an abandonment of the search for standards that can lay the basis for social solidarity and a progressive, human society.'

Roger- you have frequently stated that you think Christiantiy is the one true faith.

Does that mean you "loathe those bastard Muslims?"

Blacktealeaves · 17/12/2015 09:07

No one is offended by Christmas. No one minds if you want to celebrate St George's day. Even though it's not a traditional.

People love to be offended.

Priest at local church said recently "now is the hardest time ever to be a Christian". No it bloody isn't. Who is feeding you to the lions? No one. Being asked to respect others who don't agree with you and let others live in peace (I.e. not being allowed to persecute gays) is not you being persecuted you nob.

fuzzywuzzy · 17/12/2015 09:52

I don't get where this comes from, certainly no Muslim/Jew/Sick/Hindu person I've known has ever expressed horror at Christmas.

I love Christmas, it brightens up winter, and gives us something to look forward to.

Today at Liverpool street station an elderly lady was holding a charity collection, I went to pop some money in the collection tin and she faltered wishing me a merry Christmas, I laughed wished her a merry Christmas and carried on my journey.
It actually saddens me to think someone would falter in wishing me well in case it causes me offense. It's so crazy.

I'm Muslim, my DC go to an Islamic school, they learn about Christmas, in a this is what Christians believe way. It's taught with respect and helps explain to the children what's going on around them.

I think there was a discussion about father Christmas too, which unfortunately scared dd2 as we recently had a break in, and I had to reassure her about that one.

We're also helping out at an Islamic charity for homeless people (that's for homeless people full stop no religion is involved) this year to ensure everyone has a lovely Christmas.

My DP's family are Christian, and they asked DP if I'd mind if they gave us gifts, I was so deeply touched, I help DP with gifting for his family (i.e. steer him away from the pound shop Hmm ) and he reassured his family it was absolutely fine and a really sweet thing to remember my DC in such a thoughtful lovely way.

I've seen loads of non Christian friends and families on fb showing off their decorations and discussing gifts etc.

We will be celebrating Christmas, by enjoying time off together, giving gifts to one another, pulling crackers (DD1 is insane about crackers)! And enjoying being together. That's what Christmas is about for me personally, the opportunity to wind down and just enjoy spending time with my DC and loved ones.

Add me to the not offended by Christmas but not a Christian list.

Am sick and tired of pleasing muslims etc its Happy Christmas not Happy Holidays, my kids school have said they cant hand cards out well tough my kids did, they give kids vegetarian sausages so's not to offend muslims, sorry i couldnt give a toss if it offends them

MoaningattheGates · 17/12/2015 16:16

What an odd school you must have Charl

The Muslim mum I know best told me at length today what they were up to over the Christmas holidays and her daughter gave mine a card.

As for sausages, isn't that what vegetarian (or halal, if you have enough Muslim pupils) are for?

BertrandRussell · 17/12/2015 16:16

Bollocks.

MrsJayy · 17/12/2015 16:22

Och bullshit charl

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/12/2015 16:24

Charl1963
I think your post is a pile of steaming horseshit.
Sorry, I couldn't give a toss if that offends you.

DS1 sung in Latin in the school carol concert and made christmas decorations to decorate his classroom - he is muslim.

Does it offend you if I wish my DH Eid Mubarak? So why would your DC wishing someone Happy Christmas offend a Muslim Hmm?

Oh what utter rubbish, charl. The Muslim families I know here love Christmas, they're exhaustingly enthusiastic about it. Decorations, sweets, glitter, sparkly lights - "Santa Claus was from Turkey, did you know that, ugly?" - more sweets, presents, more glitter. In a few years, we're probably going to have a "Muslims have stolen Christmas - save Christmas from the Muslims!" thread.

MrsJayy · 17/12/2015 18:25

Musli m steals the grinch's job Grin

RogerScrutonRocks · 17/12/2015 18:28

Some schools do ban Christmas cards but it is to avert the tears and tantrums that invariably arise when some special snowflake hasn't been sent one when all the rest of his mates have.

Other schools have sent letters to parents asking them to spend their card money instead on a charity. As if it's any of their bastard business.

RogerScrutonRocks · 17/12/2015 18:31

Ego, I am a tad bored with your samey posts ('I know loads of wiccans/hindus/sikhs who would never behave like them twatty Christians do'). It just smacks of Christiophobia.

Oh, don't talk bollocks. And address some of the points that have been put to you. Or are you going to have a carefully constructed strop and leave?

RogerScrutonRocks · 17/12/2015 18:42

I wasn't addressing you. I mean, I find your posts samey in a similarly excruciating way ('But what about the privilege!!!') but, you know...I was talking to Ego.

My Muslim friends all enthusiastically celebrate Christmas. The only people I know that withdraw their kids from Christmas celebrations are Jehovas Witnesses.
