It's the militant aethistis , innit

None of the Muslims , Hindus , Jews or pagans that I know have any problem with anyone else celebrating their religious festivals . Neither , IME, do most people with no religious beliefs - they are happen for others to do their own thing.

The Muslim and Seik children at our school are queuing up to be in the nativity play, their grannies come along to see them in it .

Meanwhile two poor children have to sit behind the curtain Because their parents have withdrawn them from all " religious " events. Clearly they will be converted tomorrow if they have to hear the local vicar saying radical things like

" at chistmas we should think of others less fortunate than ourselves . It's a time for giving and being with those we love, being thankful for what we have "

And the collection of food for the local food bank Hmm

alltouchedout · 15/12/2015 14:09

No one has ever been offended by a fecking nativity scene. Unless they were v arty and creative and saw an offensively shit one, maybe.

Kaytee1987 · 15/12/2015 14:12

Probably 'Britain first' or some other similar hate filled organisation. I delete anyone who likes or shares things like that immediately now because it does my head in and anyone that believes this is true is stupid in my opinion. Had plenty of Christmas cards from Muslim friends and relatives absolutely no one is offended by Christmas except oddly some atheists I've met.

MrWriter · 15/12/2015 14:19

I saw a Britain First post about the blonde lady on countryfile, Ellie? Apparently she has been told she's too Blonde to be the lead presenter.

Postchildrenpregranny · 15/12/2015 14:35

Spent Christmas with (practicing, though Reformed)Jewish friends in Germany once . Was amused by their then 4 year old singing Away in a Manger in the back of the car. Friend said 'we celebrate both festivals. (Hannukah and Christmas) It's all routes to the same place.' Said it all, for me (a practicing Christian)

ItsBeginningToLookALotLikeXmas · 15/12/2015 14:40

I'm an atheist and I bloody LOVE Christmas! Ok, so we do 'worship at the church of santa' (!) but if my kids had the chance to be in a nativity, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. We let the kids make up their own minds about religion and at the moment our 6 year old flip flops between believing and not believing in God (depending on which of her friends she has been speaking to mostly!). Although at the moment she wants to be Jewish because her best friend is and they've just celebrated Hannukah which she thought sounded like great fun Xmas Wink

I tend to Snopes it and post the link to say it's utter bollocks

Kaytee1987 · 15/12/2015 14:43

ItsBeginningToLookALotLikeXmas yeah its only been 2 or 3 people I've met that hate christmas make fun of it and of people's religion and are quite degrading to people with religion at all but these people are horrible anyway and would be regardless of anything lol.

Kaytee, you posted those comments on a different thread.

Put down the sherry! Xmas Wink

Xpost!

ZeldaTheWindBreaker · 15/12/2015 14:56

Absolute nonsense. I'm just back from my nephew's nativity at his (Catholic) school where four Syrian refugee (Muslim) families were in the audience as special guests (newly arrived to our area). They seemed to love it!

I think it's just people trying to stir up trouble that are saying such and such are offended.

Actually, an acquaintance of mine on FB posted something similar. A daft thing saying we're not allowed to say 'Merry Christmas' anymore it has to be 'Happy Holidays' etc. I simply posted 'who said that to you?' underneath and she deleted my comment. Confused

BertrandRussell · 15/12/2015 14:56

"y brother works for a large corporation, as do quite a few friends as it's a big employer in my area.

They are not allowed to put up decorations or say Merry Christmas etc so as not to offend other religions"

Complete and utter bollocks.

hefzi · 15/12/2015 14:57

A new Muslim neighbour who I've not met yet popped a Christmas card through my letterbox this morning

Genuinely baffled by the process of secularisation that seems to surround the Christian heritage (and sometimes religion) of the UK: and I've never heard of any instance where it was driven by followers of another religion. People are either buying in to racist propaganda (people on FB) or being pre-emptively PC (local councils often): both types are prat-tastic, however.

BertrandRussell · 15/12/2015 14:59

And the Happy Holidays in the the States is largely a catch-all expression covering Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hannukah. Nothing about offending anyone.

SheHasAWildHeart · 15/12/2015 15:10

I wonder what Britain First had to say about the 'Muslim charity' who have been helping flood victims in the North? They've been quiet on that news story.

SheHasAWildHeart · 15/12/2015 15:10

And I say that as a Muslim governor of a RC school - I'm such an oxymoron ;)

SheHasAWildHeart · 15/12/2015 15:12

It's also odd how some people think Christmas is a British White Celebration, totally forgetting where Jesus was born.

MaxPepsi · 15/12/2015 15:17

*"y brother works for a large corporation, as do quite a few friends as it's a big employer in my area.

What, the fact they are not allowed to say merry christmas and put up decorations, or that you think I am lying??

BertrandRussell · 15/12/2015 15:24

I am not saying you're lying. I am saying that it did not happen. You have been misinformed. Or you have misunderstood.

Canyouforgiveher · 15/12/2015 15:33

Well part of it is that but part of it is in fact not mentioning religion because it might be exclusionary of those who are not of that religion and thus offend them.

Babycham1979 · 15/12/2015 15:35

Yeah, but they nicked him from the bible (which was written yonks earlier than the Qu'ran) but decided he wasn't reet important. Not sure what your point is.

True dat, but the Christians invented Christmas to co-opt the pre-existing pagan winter festival.

Ironic that the 'happy winterval' nonsense is probably closer to the 'true' version of European Christmas than the twee Victorian reinvention we have today!

Babycham1979 · 15/12/2015 15:37

Aaah, Kwanzaa! Now, there's another recent invention.

All these confected traditions really are bonkers, albeit good fun. Why do people get so touchy about them!?
