Donald Trump thinks there should be a ban on all Muslims entering the U.S.

Beeb news here.

Newt Gringrich is Establishment Republican. Practically the entire Republican Establishment is against Trump and say he is not a conservative. But Gingrich can see which way the wind is blowing and now realises that the Trump movement is going to shake the entire Republican Party. They can't stop it so they will have to get used to it.

Freedland and the Guardian teams will have to try and fight fire with fire, but Gingrich, if he is smart, will have to accept reality and realise that Trump is not going away.

Yes but Trump tells little lies, it is not on the scale of a "Yo Blair".

Oh right. Good luck with that.

claig · 12/12/2015 18:44

Labour leader, Gordon Bennett, said that he had ended boom and bust, shortly after which a bust of epic proportions occurred. Trump changes his mind, he doesn't always mean what he says and he changes policies, it is not the same thing.

Sallyingforth · 12/12/2015 19:52

Gordon Bennett !

wasonthelist · 12/12/2015 20:13

claig - at least your latest contribution was funny :)

claig · 12/12/2015 20:20

'at least your latest contribution was funny'

Just the mention of Gordon has millions of voters rolling on the floor laughing, with the remaining millions crying Wink

claig · 12/12/2015 20:21

Gordon reminds me of Norman Wisdom, a calamity waiting to happen

"Republican leaders are currently thrashing about - holding secret meetings, issuing confidential memos and making public denunciations - as they approach a state of near panic over what Donald Trump is doing to their party. It's enough to make some believe that Mr Trump may not have the Republican establishment's best interests at heart.

Could Donald Trump be a secret double-agent, sent by Democrats to destroy their party from within?

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush, who has borne the brunt of more than a few Trump barbs, seems to think there's a possibility"

"Over the past few weeks, word spread that Republican elders were increasingly anxious at the damage Donald Trump was doing to their party's long-term presidential prospects. "

PigletJohn, yes there are those conspiracy theories about Trump and at the beginning the wisest, wiliest and wariest among us were wary of Trump, we thought the Establishment might have played a master trick on the people by giving them what they wanted only to deceiev them at the last moment. Everybody said "Trump looks good but is he for real?", could this be too good to be true?

We analysed everything, studied the Daily Mail, and avoided the Guardian in a search for the truth, and after we listened to former Trump aide, Roger Stone, who told us "Trump is for real, he can't be bullied, he can't be bought, he is fearless" and when we heard what Roger had to say about Hillary and Jeb, we realised Trump was the real deal and it was all stations go. When we read Freedland's Guardian article today where the panic among elites is palpable, there is no longer any doubt as Roger Stone rather crudely puts it "Trump has got the establishment peeing their pants" and he doesn't mean that they are amused.

PigletJohn · 12/12/2015 20:59

I believe Trump is 72.

In ten years time, will his pernicious shadow still lie over American politics?

claig · 12/12/2015 21:06

I thought he was 69, but I'm not sure.

I hope he will be President for the full 8 year term.

wasonthelist · 12/12/2015 21:10

Claig - the fact you haven't noticed why it was funny is even funnier.

claig · 12/12/2015 21:17

'Claig - the fact you haven't noticed why it was funny is even funnier'

I don't get it, isn't the word Gordon funny enough, doesn't that conjure up every form of pomposity possible and every style of stage-strutting strides together with clasping hand gestures in the playbook?

Sallyingforth · 12/12/2015 21:34

And you still don't get it!

Owllady · 12/12/2015 21:45

Pigletjohn I have a problem with my tumble dryer

claig · 12/12/2015 21:45

Sallyingforth, what is it, I am never going to get this one.

PigletJohn · 12/12/2015 21:49

Owllady, try Property and DIY. You will find more sense there than in AIBU.

PigletJohn · 12/12/2015 21:50

Claig, what is the relevance of an early 20th century racing driver?

MyFriendsCallMeOh · 12/12/2015 22:06

I live in Texas. Everyone loves Trump here.

wasonthelist · 12/12/2015 22:15

Myfriends - Are you able to articulate what appeals to people?

PigletJohn · 12/12/2015 22:22

"everyone?"

aren't there Hispanic workers in Texas? Do they like him?

Sallyingforth · 12/12/2015 22:24

claig

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6226293.stm

And please don't tell us that you did that deliberately for some obscure reason. It won't wash.

claig · 12/12/2015 22:51

Fascinating but isn't Gordon Bennett just an expression like Gor Blimey, a jokey expletive. I have heard of Flaming Nora, but not Bleeding Adam.

Isn't Gordon Brown a bit of a joke?

"Gordon Bennett, along with his sisters Flaming Nora and Bleeding Adam, are just three of a large number of eponyms - a person whose name becomes a synonym for something - in the English language.

Many are mysteries, and as with all etymological detective work, there are a legion of theories - from the plausible to the downright ludicrous.

Sadly, perhaps, the Gordon Bennett who became enshrined in the English language, might never have existed, says John Simpson, chief editor of the Oxford English Dictionary. "The expression is probably just a euphemistic extension of 'God!' or 'Gawd!', turned into a proper name to weaken the swear-word."

Sallyingforth · 13/12/2015 09:08

claig squirming as predicted.

You said he was "Labour leader".

It must be getting very hot down that hole, but by all means keep digging. It's a grey day here and I could do with a few more laughs.
