Beard loathing

am I the only one who doesn't see the attraction with beards??
OH has, for the second time, grown one and quite frankly, it turns my stomach! It's long and looks like brown pubes! When he eats he often drops food in it. He 'chews' the hairs sometimes-that's how long it is! It's not a tidy-looking beard either.
It grosses be out! So much so that since he's been growing it, I can't bring myself to kiss him! I recoil if he tries!
I love this man so very very much and fancy the pants off him-minus facial furniture! we have 2 gorgeous children too. I want to spend the rest of my life with him... But NOT the beard!
I've tried explaining to him how I feel about it but he's adamant it looks good...
Should I shave him while he sleeps?!

I'm not surprised at the outpouring of beardhate on here ... there's equal body shaming on MN for once I guess with what women "should" do with their body hair for everyone elses benefit.
It's hair. It's not mine. Meh.

OurBlanche · 08/12/2015 08:16

Body shaming? Puhlease!

Yet another Po-faced response to people's personal preferences. Or am I supposed to find everyone I meet drop dead gorgeous and utterly shaggable?

I hate that one upping that goes on round here, sometimes. Make a relatively light hearted thread into monster of the year - yet more MN Godwinning!

Pah!

maxxytoe · 08/12/2015 08:27

Yabu, there's a man who gets on my bus with a shaved head and full beard .
I think I'm in love with him Blush

josephwrightofderby · 08/12/2015 08:30

I am creeped out by beards, to the point that it's almost a problem for me.

It's not a facial hair issue - I don't mind a bit of stubble - but those big hipster bushy beards make me shrivel up inside. I especially, ESPECIALLY hate those adverts where people have put flowers or baubles in beards. There is something about it that I find absolutely repulsive.

I realise this is completely my problem and I'm not saying men should shave just to please me. Just wondering if anyone else has a similarly strong reaction.

Itjusthappened · 08/12/2015 08:31

I deteste MN for that!! I'm usually a lurker for that reason. No time for crankiness in my happy-go-lucky, beard-loathing life!
Skips off on the school run with twittering bluebirds in my freshly washed hair
Happy Tuesday y'all!

Beards are the 2010s mullet. Watch them uncomfortably laugh at their silliness in ten years time.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

Joseph, I am with you. I had to request a different counsellor when I was younger as the one I got had a huge beard and I was freaked out. Same when I changed dental practice. I do find them quite scary. When I first started dating DH, I did say quite early on that beards repulsed me, thankfully he likes to be clean shaven. I had bad childhood experiences, it stems from that, I know it's not rational!

Birdie85 · 08/12/2015 10:05

I hate beards too, and man-buns! I am so thankful that my DH is clean shaven, and even if he wanted to grow a beard it would be a pathetic patchy ginger job so he keeps his face smooth! My FIL is beardy out of laziness and I hate it when he gives me a hug/kiss on the cheek as it's so scratchy and gross bork

Whenever I see a man with a beard I assume that he's hiding an unattractively weak chin, and a man-bun just looks like the new comb-over! Hardly shaggable stuff!

icanteven · 08/12/2015 10:22

I think it's a nice backlash against the hairless adolescents that the media has been pushing at women ever since Bros. Record labels have long since identified young girls as a limitless source of revenue, and have accordingly pushed "unthreatening", minimally masculine young men at us for years. Beards, chest hair and so on are a natural pushback against this. Long may it last. I'm not 14.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 09/12/2015 10:24

There's some pictures I keep seeing of a bloke that puts stuff in his beard. I agree it really weirds me out. Especially the one where he's fashioned it into a bowl and has noodles in it. Makes me heave.

I support a person's right to look the way they want, but I don't necessarily have to like it do I?

Itjusthappened · 09/12/2015 13:38

Yes I e seen that, too! Totally gag-inducing!
I showed OH this thread last night and, in his words, 'it was an interesting read'. He then went upstairs to groom the beard. It still looks the same to me. He was offended by this!

I hate them too! I'm suspicious of men with beards, always makes me think they're hiding something (other than their chins Grin)
And my mum says as a baby I used to scream whenever I was in contact with a Beardy!

bikingintherain · 09/12/2015 14:25

I know a little girl, about 3, once saw a man with a beard in a butchers. She turned to her father and said 'daddy, that man's got hair on his face like you've got on your willy.'

Enough said!

JasperDamerel · 09/12/2015 14:34

DP looks better with a beard and has very fast-growing and spiky stubble, so beards are more comfortable for kissing. But he grew his beard very long last year, and I wasn't keen, and whenever we had sex I found it very distracting and ended up having to imagine that he was Zeus and I was a nymph and other similar beard-featuring fantasies.

Nataleejah · 09/12/2015 17:17

Love NICE beards, stylish moustaches, chest hair.
But detest santa claus beards on young men or hairy backs.

HelpfulChap · 09/12/2015 17:26

Never had one or the inclination to have one.
But each to their own. Some people suit them. I wouldn't be one of them!

Itjusthappened · 09/12/2015 21:36

zeus nymph cracking me up! 😂
