To say that 'fart' is not an appropriate word for a 2yo?

Basically, DH thinks it's fine to say farty-farty whenever DD has wind, which she thinks is hilarious and now copies.

I've said that I don't think it's a nice word for a child to learn. My argument is that fart is along the same lines as 'crap', not offensive as an adult but you wouldn't want your toddler saying it. He says it's not the same at all and that fart is utterly non-offensive. It's not a huge deal, we're kind of just a bit bemused with each other's views over it. So who is being unreasonable?

It's a swear word in our house. We never used it before we had kids either. It's something that doesn't need to be referred to and if it ever does then we say wind or windy.

DN says 'oops, stood on a duck' but also on occasion fart. I don't think it's a big deal.

Don't think it's offensive, but if you don't like it, you could possibly say trump-trump, it's what a friend of mine says?

We're a 'fart' family - my favourite word, in fact. Interchangeable with trump - not fussed.

It's nowhere near like 'crap'. I used to be a bit funny about the word, as I was never allowed to use it growing up, but I have embraced it now! I can't stand the alternatives either.

YANBU. I hate the word far tbh and my DCs (7 and 4) are not allowed to say it and when they do (they are very much in the minority and they copy it from their friends) they get told not to day it.

We just say burp. I do constantly ask DH why we even need a bloody discussion everytime someone does do it!

I think fart is fine. I think its bizzaire that we live in a society where we are so closed up about farts and poo! Its one of the only things we all do.

I don't really like it either . However, I am yet to encounter a synonym that isn't hopelessly twee, i.e., 'windy pop', 'bottom burp', 'toot'.

Out of interest how old are people who don't find it offensive?
I am 32, DH is 41 we were both brought up considering it a swear word.

I don't know what word I'd prefer, she used to say parp, which cracked me up. Maybe I am being a bit of a pearl clutcher over it. I just remember being told off when I used it once when I was small. Times change I guess!

Never thought it was a swear word. I'm 35. My 1 year old does massive adult volume farts and it makes DH and I laugh.

I'm 33. Was always taught it was a swear word.

DS picked it up at his previous (very middle class) school. I was shocked when he first came out with it! Now I'm having to unclench (arf) but it still sounds strange to me from a child's mouth.

I call ds trumpy bum and encourage him to say trump too. He still refers to farts though as he's grown up hearing his 16yo sister saying it.
