Specifically about Ross and Rachel. I just don't think they should have ended up together!

Have just watched most of the series whilst bf my little one and have found myself irrationally irritated by the ending.

When I watched it when I was younger I thought it was so sweet but watching it now he's so childish and selfish. It just doesn't feel right.

Tbh I think Rachel should have ended up with Joey. See link below.

I actually liked the fact that the goofy nerdy guy and the popular cheerleader girl ended up together. I know it was a bit corny, but still!

I always thought Monica's fat to skinny story was ridiculous. As a size 6 adult (or whatever she was) she never seemed to struggle to keep her weight down, even though she'd been a seriously overweight teenager and young adult.

I also thought Phoebe added a bit of fresh air to the group. They others seemed to have been shuffling around in the same little group since they were teenagers, and were all still together as couples when they were pushing forty.

CrapBag · 02/12/2015 11:30

Oh I liked it when Rachel was pregnant, especially when she was overdue and very very hormonal and irritated. I also don't get the Ross hate. It's just a character.

I like the one where Chandler fooled around with Joey's sister and doesn't know which one because he was so drunk. I also love the one where they all turn 30 and when they come to London. I love it when Joey offers to set Phoebe up, forgets and just shouts out Mike and there he is.

Also, obviously, the episode where Phoebe changes her name to Princess Consuela Bananahammock and Mike decides to call himself CrapBag. 😊😂

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 02/12/2015 11:30

Rachel was the one who changed the most over 10 years, if anything, the entire series was a story about Rachel - she arrives as a spoilt rich girl who ran out on her wedding and became the worlds worst waitress, and by the end she's having companies fighting each other to give her a job. The other person who changed was Joey, who just kept getting stupider, which annoyed me.

Lulabellarama · 02/12/2015 11:31

I actually think in Ross and Rachel's situation it was really selfish of her to accept a job in Paris, depriving Emma of a relationship with her father. She chose to have a baby with someone who already had a kid.

I love Friends. I can see the point of people who raise Ross's behaviour toward Rachel, but at the end of the day I just don't care, it's funny!

CrapBag · 02/12/2015 11:32

One bit that bugs me is the first episode when they introduce Rachel to Chandler but it turns out she actually knew him before. Also if she and Monica where such good friends then how come they lost touch? And the apartment numbers are different. Ok I know it was a pilot and they often change things but the Rachel/Chandler one not knowing each other was quite obvious.

Baconyum · 02/12/2015 11:42

Watched far too much!!

Not a fan of Ross but it was right they were together at the end. Personally Rachel was better suited to Gavin Mitchell (dermot Mulroney)

The births were portrayed as long and arduous as much as that's possible in a sitcom. In addition they didn't immediately have flat tummys/groomed appearance. Also Rachel bf.

Phoebe should have married David, mike never really worked. Plus can you imagine the mil issues (bitsy Hannigan played by the fantastic Cristine Rose)

Lulabellarama · 02/12/2015 11:56

Mike never really worked

What?

Mike was one of the best characters ever. The Crapbag episode still sends me into hysterical fits.

Baconyum · 02/12/2015 12:01

Nope far too boring for phoebe.

That episode was just him being a lawyer and using reductio ad absurdum. Awful episode!

KeepOnMoving1 · 02/12/2015 12:03

I can't stand Rachel, I thought she treated Monica quite meanly. She always got her way too. phoebe annoyed me with her very unfunny, 'quirky' hippy ways. Joey was so stupid, how can anyone find that attractive.
Love chandler and his sarcasm.
Also liked Monica and Ross.

bialystockandbloom · 02/12/2015 12:04

I love Ross! He and Rachel totally had to be together! The only rubbish thing about Friends was the Helen bloody Baxandale Emily character.

Rachel0Greep · 02/12/2015 12:11

I loved Friends, and still watch it regularly. It's like a comfort blanket. Chandler is my absolute favourite, of the six of them. There is just something so goofy, and appealing about him.

Mike and Phoebe's wedding is one of my favourite episodes. The one where Joey is ballroom dancing on the roof with Treeger still cracks me up.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 02/12/2015 12:14

I love the Eddie episodes.

MidnightAura · 02/12/2015 12:19

I think they had all changed at the end, Joey and Rachel's transformation I think was the most annoying, Joey was never the sharpest tool in the box but in the later series he was just plain thick and had no common sense.

I also think they dumbed down Rachel in the later series which was a shame.

Thurlow · 02/12/2015 12:23

I loved Mike. I never thought he was right for Phoebe, but he was great, and Paul Rudd played him perfectly.

I used to love Ross too but the various MN threads about him has ruined the character slightly Grin

Randomly caught an episode from s1 last night and DP and I were talking about how they were all much more normal in that series. Joey was cooler and less thick, Monica was reasonably cool too (and not the shrieking harridan she'd later become).

The flashbacks changing their history should be annoying, but I'll forgive anything for the sight of Chandler with a Flock of Seagulls haircut (him kissing Rachel at Ross's party - "What? I'm in college and I'm in a band.")

Chandler was always my favourite though. Did anyone watch Studio 60 back when it was on? It was just Chandler, but with a good job and a bit more confidence. I absolutely fancied the pants off of Matt Perry in Studio 60.

liz70 · 02/12/2015 12:23

If it's any consolation, the OH is currently working his way through "Upstairs Downstairs".

dustarr73 · 02/12/2015 12:52

The speed that Chandler and Monica adopted a baby was very quick.

Plus Kathleen Turner as Chandler's dad was inspired, one of my favourite guest roles.

Shakey15000 · 02/12/2015 13:11

Mike was awesome I've never quite got (gotten? Wink ) over watching him play Orsino in Twelfth Night

Helen Blaxendale was awful, absolutely zero character. I actually liked the French episode, as silly as it was.

Baconyum · 02/12/2015 13:12

Chandler and Monica's adoption storyline was an adpatation to the original Monica was supposed to get pregnant to tie in with a pregnancy of Courtney's but Courtney had several mc and it was decided it was too much to ask o her at such a hard time to play a pregnancy. As it happened she was pregnant with her daughter when it came to actual filming

Baconyum · 02/12/2015 13:13

And the irony of the French episode is that matt le Blanc speaks French better than Lisa kudrow

elf0508 · 02/12/2015 13:18

Read the other thread regarding Ross being emotionally abusive.. some people have far too much time on their hands!

bumbleymummy · 02/12/2015 13:38

I agree that the Eddie episodes were brilliant :)

KakiFruit · 02/12/2015 13:44

Lulabellarama she didn't choose to have a baby with him, Emma was an accident. And it was made clear that the company was going to pay to fly her and Emma back regularly to see Ross. I do see your point but I think it was a good thing to see a woman choosing her career and her dream over a man... then spoiled by her coming back, of course Grin

VinylScratch · 02/12/2015 13:58

I never understood why Monica and Chandler didn't try any kind of fertility treatment when they were told it might never happen naturally?

reni2 · 02/12/2015 14:05

YANBU, YAB 10y late though.

DoreenLethal · 02/12/2015 14:07

I never understood why Monica and Chandler didn't try any kind of fertility treatment when they were told it might never happen naturally?

They would never have got that in before the end of the series.
