It apparently happened after an awards ceremony.

I've probably consumed more early C20th cultural material and similar than most people TBF about it.

Greydog · 24/11/2015 12:12

I just thought of the poem about a bear. Nothing wrong with that?
Fuzzy Wuzzy
Was a bear
Fuzzy Wuzzy
Had no hair
Fuzzy Wuzzy
Wasn't fuzzy, was he?

Was he bare?

StrawberryTeaLeaf · 24/11/2015 12:13

Oh my good lord. This thread is quite mad.

SheHasAWildHeart · 24/11/2015 12:17

It's interesting though reading this thread about a woman being told by her taxi driver that her outfit is inappropriate straight after reading a thread from a woman whose husband is hiding her clothes in the shed cos he deems them too short and inappropriate :/ The latter poster hasn't mentioned her DH's religion but I don't think he is Muslim - imagine if he was though, the outrage would be x10.

MistressoftheYoniverse · 24/11/2015 12:21

User name speculation causes thread derailment... Grin

Gruntfuttock · 24/11/2015 12:24

Greydog That was what the username made me think of. That childhood poem and nothing else.

fuzzywuzzy · 24/11/2015 12:24

I sincerely hope Uber follow this accusation up.

I for one, would like to know what a shariah taxi driver looks like.

SarahSavesTheDay · 24/11/2015 12:35

Oh my good lord. This thread is quite mad.

Yes. Mostly for your accusation regarding fuzzy's username. I thought of Fuzzy Wuzzy the bear as well.

bimandbam · 24/11/2015 13:07

For anyone who doubts that religion and race played part in the Rotherham abuse let me tell you how young PakistanI men who are most probably muslim and possibly agree with shri law view young, white women.

They are slags and whores and for fucking. They are not for marrying though they.may fall pregnant. If they do the baby will be raised muslim or completely rejected. If the white whore you have disrespects you or your family ir makes trouble, especially with your good muslim wife she will be punished. Quite often beaten. Occasionally she will be murdered.

The reason that white women are slags is because your religion tells you this. Your.mosque may tell you this. Your elders will tell you this.possibly while on the way to mosque or while working in his take away shop or even while driving his taxi cab.

And xbecause of the strict political correctness of the law you will mostly get away with it. And when you are questioned you will say that the police are being racist. You will admit to a relationship with the girl in question but of course unless the girl says you are having sex with her you will get away with it. And the police won't question too much because they don't want to be seen to persecuting a mixed race relationship.

And the girls desperate family will watch it happen and be as afraid of the police as the man who is abusing their daughter.

I watched a car full of Asian men pull up outside a park last year with iron bars, baseball bats and a thick chain. They ran across the field looking for a 'grass'. A 19 year old lad that had spoken to the police about drugs. I reported it to the police. 20 minutes later I saw them stop the car and question the men. They took the tools from them and sent them on their way.

Two of the same men seriously assaulted my coysin with mh difficulties a few months later. They beat his head with a housebrick and he has had to have a metal plate put over the cracks they left in his skull. He was lucky not to lose an eye. He identified both men by name and two other witnesses report seeing their car and them running from the scene.

Despite this no charges have been made. Cid basically said it was his word against theirs (it wasn't) and he would be better off dropping it for his own safety.

My mum lives near a mosque. When it is prayer time they block the road to her complex which is for the elderly and ill. When residents and their family complained about the double parking and being unable to druve through they were told that it wouldn't be possible to do anything in case it was seen as obstructing anyone's right to worship.

A few weeks ago Britain First were protesting in the town centre. Nothing new there. But when I went to my mums at the top of her road about 30 Asian men wwre stood with various tools obviously waiting for trouble. I phoned 111 to let them know as I suspect the Britain First idiots were marching that way. They were all still stood an hour later. But no police had attended or taken the baseball bats and iron bara from them. Yet the Britain Firat members were escorted all around town by riot police.

I don't support Britain Firsr but how one extreme group us treated should be the same as any other.

I don't hate Muslims. I had some lovely neighbours and also a beautifully kind muslim boss at one pount who helped me leave my abusive ex.

But things need to change or more and more Rotherhams will happen. The muslim community shouldn't get special treatment because it is muslim nor should authorities be so terrified of being called racist that they are unable to act.

And anyone who thinks otherwise is welcome to come and live in Rotherham for a few months with their family and see what you think then.

HelenaDove · 24/11/2015 13:20

Sarah i did make it clear that i looked for another source before using this link.

My DM is Italian so half my family are and i have certainly experienced misogyny as part of the Catholic religion.
I was not allowed to visit a boys house even for tea once id reached a certain age.
When my parents first started dating in the 1960s the only reason a chaperone wasnt used is because my mum was already living over here. Her sister dated someone while still in Italy and had to have a chaperone with her at all times. She came to the UK a short while after my mum did. I remember going on the Big Wheel at the fairground when i was 15. My pale pink skirt got caught and ended up with a grease mark on it. I was accused of "lying down with a boy" I could go on but it would take all day.

My mum has experienced racism and has been told to "go back to her own country" despite living here since 1960.

Most religions are misogynistic but yeah......guess i know fuck all Hmm

nowirehangers · 24/11/2015 13:21

Whilst many of the pedophiles in the Rotherham rings were of asian descent and muslim, the majority of the police officers and social workers and town councillors who did jack shit about it were English and white.

Yes, to a large extent out of political correctness.

Owllady · 24/11/2015 13:24

Lol at the thread being quite mad strawberry

You seem to completely dominate posts and posters, misconstruing what people post and call names. I've not ever come across you before but I felt it pointless to even explain what I had wrote.

The shouting down of people doesn't provide open minded, logical or fair debate. Quite the opposite

DrasticAction · 24/11/2015 13:24

Helena

The world was a very different place in the 60's, sex abuse rife everywhere in schools, institutions, care homes, boarding schools, religious institutions.

Look at some adverts back then, incredibly racist, sexist and all the rest.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/11/2015 13:29

bimand bam that is shockingly racist generalisation.

HelenaDove · 24/11/2015 13:33

Yes Drastic but the 60s is still within living memory and that misogyny was internalized and passed on to the next generation.

OP posts:
SheHasAWildHeart · 24/11/2015 13:43

Yet the Britain Firat members were escorted all around town by riot police. If they had police escorts then the police were dealing with it, the police were there with them for their safety as well not just to protect others from them.

For anyone who doubts that religion and race played part in the Rotherham abuse All the men involved in that might have been Pakistani/Muslim. That then doesn't mean all Pakistani/Muslim men are the same. And please don't tell me otherwise, having lived for 35 years as a Pakistani Muslim myself.

HelenaDove · 24/11/2015 13:54

YY WildHeart. It always depends on how the individual person chooses to interpret a religion or way of life.

DeoGratias · 24/11/2015 14:09

There are many more things like honour kilings and discriminmation against gays and women under Sharia than under Christianity nowadays in the UK and compared with the majority of the British population who believes in no God at all.

We need to fight views like those spouted forth by this taxi driver at every turn without fear or favour as only then will be root out the cancer in our midst wherever it appears which is sexism and homophobia.

bimandbam · 24/11/2015 14:11

What part of my post was shockingly racist Fanjo? And I have not said all PakistanI/muslim men abuse young girls.

It is fact that hundreds of young girls were abused by muslim men of PakistanI origin. And that the authorities that should have been protecting the young girls in vulnerable positions didn't act because they were afraid of being accused of being racist. That is fact according to the numerous independent reports into the matter.

The other things I mention all happened. I won't post pictures of my cousins face and head with its dents in because it would be even more identifying. Nor will I post pictures of the top of my mums road.

The men with baseball bats stood waiting for the Britain first had every right to be there but not to have dangerous weapons on them. I certainly didn't see any balls to go with their bats so doubt that they fancied a game. I felt intimidated driving past them. Am pretty sure that the residents of the sheltered housing behind them wouldn't have wanted to walk past either.

This is the problem. As a community in itself the people of Rotherham who live and work and study amongst a large muslim population are not free to express fear or concern or outrage against anyone who happens to be muslim. It's racism in reverse.

And if we say that some Pakistani muslims have been abusing young girls and children even though it has been proved we are still called racist.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 24/11/2015 14:15

The "let me tell you how Pakistani young men think" bit. The first part.

limitedperiodonly · 24/11/2015 14:16

shortcut's link is interesting.

The Daily Mail have undoubtedly made things up and have an agenda of setting communities against each other. As do Press TV.

Their bigotry is more narrowly focused that the Mail's, but I wouldn't want anyone here running away with the idea that Press TV is a respectable news source.

It's absolutely not.

That said, I don't doubt that footage of that idiot talking about Muslamic ray guns is real, just as I believe what was said to Frances Barber was real. I also believe her when she suggests it was religiously or culturally motivated and tied it to those Muslims who believe in sharia law.

As we all know, because we're terribly sophisticated round here, not all Muslims want sharia law. Some of them are Muslim in name only, just like I am as a Catholic. So Frances Barber was using shorthand for a particular type of person.

I would also support a woman wearing a niqab who tweeted about 'an EDL type' insulting her choice of clothing, because I'd know the stereotype she was talking about. I'd cut her a bit of slack for inadvertently slurring all the lovely, old-lady-helping, white, crop-haired taxi drivers with Millwall stickers in their cabs out there, because I'd realise she was probably angry.

I suspect that the majority of MN would do that too.

SheHasAWildHeart · 24/11/2015 14:17

You accuse the Pakistani men of generalising all white women and then go on to do the same yourself.

fuzzywuzzy · 24/11/2015 14:22

The Muslim community doesn't get special treatment at all. The Muslim community is labelled as terrorists and everything else all listed on here.
The Muslim community suffer from racism and xenophobia.

Every single Muslim I know including myself has suffered verbal abuse (if they're lucky), or physical assault from the non Muslim public whilst going about quietly doing their own thing.

This article doesn't prove the taxi driver was Muslim just that the lady assumed he was.

Etak15 · 24/11/2015 14:24

Bim bam, I understand that this is a really emotive subject for you given the experience of your friend and family, but your views are very offensive, it's a Small sample of people you are talking about they sound like nasty evil people, but you can't generalise and say that this happens because of their religion Islam doesn't say that 'white girls are slags' I don't think these guys were thinking about religion when carrying out there crimes, the only place where race/religion did come into it was the professionals being to to 'not make a fuss' of things when they tried to report it, and that was wrong on the part of the authorities, crime is crime regardless who is doing it. But for you to say it's people's religion and race that played in a part in why they did what they did is wrong. They do these things because they are deviant twats not because they are Pakistani Muslims. My 1 yr old ds will be brought up to respectful to everyone or because he is a Muslim in the north you think I'll be encouraging him to treat women like dirt, be a drug dealer, and just a general thug? Because that's what the muslamics do?

SheHasAWildHeart · 24/11/2015 14:24

Ok so I've found the original tweets

" i said "oh its cold' & he said well if you weren't so disgustingly dressed !!!"

Right so woman complains she's cold, he say's she's disgustingly dressed, ie clothes not appropriate to the weather?? Anytime I've used Uber the drivers haven't spoken English as a first language so maybe he just didn't mean 'disgusting' as in immodest. And as others said the dress wasn't revealing.
Storm in teacup.
