AIBU to be worried that this lunatic might actually be US President... he makes GWB look like a pacifist academic! As for his latest proposal that all US Muslims should carry 'Muslim I'd cards' how much longer before he ceases to have double the polling %s of his nearest republican challenger!

Womaloosh · 24/11/2015 00:00

He is a complete loon. Can't stand the man.

ginghamcricketbox · 24/11/2015 00:04

It's not the worst idea he has had, but he will never get elected.

Baconyum · 24/11/2015 00:07

This guy even scarier!

Mrsfrumble · 24/11/2015 00:09

You have to remember that the polling takes place amongst registered republicans, which make up only about 35% of Americans eligible to vote. He's currently polling at 28%, of that 35%. So he's not actually as popular as he seems.

TheTigerIsOut · 24/11/2015 00:12

I don't think he is the problem but the thousands of people who support him. And is this the place that call itself the Land of the Free, the one formed by immigrants?

I was looking at the polls today thinking "bloody hell America, shame on you!"

ChipsandGuac · 24/11/2015 00:17

If it helps, I've only seen 2 Trump bumpers stickers so far, one of which was on the car that rear ended me and he was as stupid as you would imagine a Trump supporter to be. I do have a theory that he is running as a shark in order to get someone else in, but I haven't worked out who yet. Maybe Chris Christie.

Mysteryfla · 24/11/2015 00:36

And Baby Bush is the worst of all.

goddessofsmallthings · 24/11/2015 02:58

Omigod. The Don and Baby Bush... what a nightmare pairing that would be. Not so much run for the hills as head for the spacecraft.

milaforni · 24/11/2015 03:23

I'm astounded by his polling numbers. I am a Republican and will be forced to vote for detestable, liar Hillary if he becomes my parties nominee.

DoctorTwo · 24/11/2015 04:43

Here's hoping Bernie Sanders can stage a bloodless coup. Well, bloodless other than culling the corporations sucking the blood out of the US state. I'm watching excepts of his speech at Georgetown Uni and it's brilliant. He's saying that it's wrong to have socialism for corporations and capitalism for the poor, something I could get behind.

raranah · 24/11/2015 07:03

I totally would , swoon swoon Blush

Want2bSupermum · 24/11/2015 07:11

I've said from the beginning that Trump is running to get someone else in. I don't think that someone is Chris Christie but Hilary Clinton.

WRT the Muslim ID cards, it's my understanding that it's against the constitution to do that. I do not see that ever happening.

It's early days in the nominations. There is another 3 months to select a republican nominee. Trump has some good ideas such as letting Putin deal with the Middle East which is why he has done so well. The issue is he doesn't have any other good ideas!

SarahSavesTheDay · 24/11/2015 07:28

WRT the Muslim ID cards, it's my understanding that it's against the constitution to do that. I do not see that ever happening.

It's also unconstitutional to demand ID crossing state borders, but there were some attempts towards this in the past couple of years.

I would be very surprised if Trump won, but stranger things have happened in the US.

SarahSavesTheDay · 24/11/2015 07:30

I think he appeals to a far-right contingency that is disproportionately active at this point in the campaign. His support should taper off once the mainstream voters become active, I think.

Mistigri · 24/11/2015 08:22

I think of Trump as a kind of frightening psychosocial experiment aimed at finding out just how far you can go before a large minority of the population will say "woah". It turns out you can go a lot further than even Trump expected.

Mistigri · 24/11/2015 08:26

He won't win the election btw ... Not sure if any of the republican candidates has a shot at that (maybe Rubio at a pinch, but only because he would give the Republicans their most realistic chance of increasing the Hispanic vote, and only in the unlikely event that the democratic nominee is Sanders).

LimboNovember · 24/11/2015 09:44

In a different climate it would be easy to laugh at the man, but at the moment his remarks are inflammatory and will do nothing to help the immediate terrorist threat nor the threat to muslims living in the community, I actually think he should be gagged somehow.
Talk about petrol to fire.

BigChocFrenzy · 24/11/2015 12:18

Before the Paris atrocity he had repeatedly made absolutely evil remarks about Mexican immigrants, calling them rapists.

So, he is an equal opportunity racist: he'll stir up racial hatred against any group to get votes.

He has also made disgusting misogynist remarks about female interviewers (even from rightwing media) because they didn't worship sufficiently before him and asked questions he felt uncomfortable about answering.

He appeals to that section of the white US demographic that is xenophobic, ignorant, paranoid about conspiracies and "elites" plotting with the lizard people.
I've noticed the Mumsnet loony kipperati really like him.

bumbleymummy · 24/11/2015 12:21

He's an idiot. Did you see his response to the Paris attacks?

SquirrelledAway · 24/11/2015 13:04

Funny how Trump is so against immigrants but has a track record of marrying them and is the son of one. Or maybe they don't count. Or maybe they only count when he wants something.

DreamingOfThruxtons · 24/11/2015 13:11

raranah, did you post on the wrong thread, or are you actually admitting to feelings of attraction towards The Rubberfaced One?

And, I just threw up a little in my mouth.

SarahSavesTheDay · 24/11/2015 13:15

Goodness I nearly missed raranah's post. Please come back and explain, raranah!

DrasticAction · 24/11/2015 13:19

Grin @ dreaming.

But surely Trump would be done for inciting racial hatred here?I cant believe he is allowed to keep on?

Dawn - seriously? He'll just get worse, the fucker. I can only imagine just how insufferable he could get if he actually got anywhere with his political ambitions. He'd be back at Menie at every opportunity to strut about and show off. Vomface-->Envy
