AIBU to be worried that this lunatic might actually be US President... he makes GWB look like a pacifist academic! As for his latest proposal that all US Muslims should carry 'Muslim I'd cards' how much longer before he ceases to have double the polling %s of his nearest republican challenger!

I worry that his seemingly normal daughter lends him some credibility, that perhaps she'll come through with an interview that gives rise to a 'lovable rascal' era of Trump.

Holstein · 24/11/2015 14:13

I don't see that he can win. How could people seriously vote for him? He has come out with some corkers in the last fortnight.

wasonthelist · 24/11/2015 14:24

At least Reagan had a sense of humor and the self-awareness to surround himself with people who were much better than him, Bush too, to a lesser extent. Trump seems to actually think he's not an idiot and he's got a few other people fooled too.

Mrsfrumble · 24/11/2015 15:24

That's an interesting theory want2be, especially as he was a donor to the Clintons in the past.

SenecaFalls · 24/11/2015 15:40

I live in an area of a swing state where there are many Republicans and I don't know anyone who supports him. On the other had, my state has two viable candidates for the Republican nomination so that affects local loyalties.

Remember, not a single person has voted yet. It is still early days. He will not be the nominee although many Democrats are hoping he will be.

Want2bSupermum · 24/11/2015 17:44

Ive worked with trump do I've seen another side to him. We were the bank that refinanced some debt for him.

The man has a big personality but it's less of a personality that the others we dealt with. Trump was also very nice and respectful. At that time he had an amazing team behind him, many of whom were women and there was a good few from minority groups. In terms of politics I think he was more democrat than republican. I don't believe that has changed.

I will also say that there is a significant part of the population who have been shafted by the government allowing illegal immigration. Living in an area where the minorities are Hispanic I see the issue everyday. We have a huge problem in the US with the vast majority of African Americans languishing in the lower 2 socioeconomic groups. The Hispanics have come in and taken the junior jobs in areas such as childcare, construction and service jobs (restaurant jobs and the like) and have lowered labour rates. The African American community in the mean time have been left high and dry. Funding has also been directed towards the Hispanic community to enable intergration. That funding was badly needed by the African American groups. Even today, as an American, I strongly disagree that illegal immigrants don't have to pay for healthcare or pay any fines for not having insurance. I went through the proper channels to become an American, as did DH. Those who are here illegally should be deported. It isn't right that the problem is brushed to the side. Trump knows this is a sensitive spot for those now in the bottom 3 socioeconomic groups. That's why he said it. Just to be clear, I don't agree with him!

Senpai · 24/11/2015 19:03

I actually find it entertaining, as a US citizen myself. It shows just how outrageous the Republican party has become, and why it's going to die a quick death soon. I hope he does run, it'll be interesting to see an entire map of mostly blue states.

Republicans lost the last election because of their stance on birth control, women are tired of this shit, decent people are tired of this shit, and unfortunately for republicans their main voter base is quickly dying off and getting out numbered by people who don't make religion a big part of their life.

Holstein · 24/11/2015 20:28

So he really is 'a nice guy', want2be? Grin

HotterWok · 24/11/2015 20:39

Want2be: what do you think that he would do if he was elected?

BlackSwan · 24/11/2015 20:49

Can you imagine Trump and Putin in a meeting? The mind reels.

Holstein · 24/11/2015 21:15

Good lord! They would be competing for which could look most manly half naked on horseback within 10 minutes...

DrasticAction · 24/11/2015 21:21

I've noticed the Mumsnet loony kipperati really like him

I have never noticed anyone really like him on MN or anywhere else Shock apart from that random comment earlier.

talkinnpeace · 24/11/2015 21:28

raranah posts very weird stuff on lots of threads : pretty sure she is Katie Hopkins marking threads to turn into articles later Wink

Trump is scary
but it makes sense for the moderate wing of the party to let him take the headlines well into the race when the weight will swing in behind Rubio - who is the only one with a chance of running Hillary close

must have a catch up with my Dad about it, he and I had a good laugh about the possibility of Corbyn and Trump meeting some time

DrasticAction · 24/11/2015 21:31

Corbyn and Trump Grin

TheoriginalLEM · 24/11/2015 21:38

He is a cunt, i just watched a program about planes (well DP was watching) This moron has a 180 MILLION dollar private jet with gold plated everything (including the toilet flush ffs) and people were cleaning it with a toothbrush, i shit you not.

Vile vile vile vile

Mrsfrumble · 25/11/2015 00:32

Can you imagine if Bernie Sanders and Jeremy Corbyn both got into power? They'd meet in some worker's greasy spoon cafe, having both cycled there Grin

nightsky010 · 25/11/2015 01:44

if he ever got elected I'd want to look for a new planet to move to - my prediction would be WW3 within a few years! The man is utterly bonkers and a total bigot, but also seems pretty thick, rather like Bush, so I imagine he'd get laughed at a lot too. Policies don't make sense and are just terrifying. I was equally scared and amused reading the tracking Muslims saga.

Want2bSupermum · 25/11/2015 02:20

I don't believe Trump ever expected he would get this far. I think that if he gets the nomination and he is against HC then it's going to be very hard for him to win the election.

Ironically Trump is not pro war at all. In fact his strategy is to let Putin deal with the Middle East problem. This is a policy that a lot of Americans like.

As to Trump the person, having a huge plane doesn't make me think differently. It's a corporate plane and I've seen much more obnoxious planes than trumps. I've also had to deal with much more obnoxious political leaders than Trump ever was as a business leader. End of the day, I don't see him necessarily winning the election. I do see him having a real shot of winning the nomination for the Republican Party. Given the others running for the nomination I would prefer Trump to Jeb Bush or even Ben Carson.

talkinnpeace · 25/11/2015 14:45

Trump has a very polished public persona for his political days.
trump has a very polished business persona for his public facing days

admittedly he inherited a thriving business rather than being self made
but when he's in an office situation he's clearly an effective operator

I genuinely think candidates like Rubio are letting him roll till the big primaries get going and then they will sideline him
as there is no way he can beat Hillary

HotterWok · 26/11/2015 22:59

Hillary has to be the best option, no one else has her experience

Want2bSupermum · 27/11/2015 03:10

Hillary Clinton has about the same amount of political experience as most of the other candidates. She wasn't an elected official until after her DH left office. She was doing limited lobbying efforts before. As an example she drove the effort for changes in maternity care. That's lobbying and while there is nothing wrong with that it doesn't give her stand out experience compared to the others, especially when she was able to pull on her DH to get things moving.

Also, older Americans don't like that she stayed married after leaving the White House. If she had divorced him over the affair she would be in a much stronger position. Benghazi is an issue for her.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/11/2015 03:34

He's a rapist. His ex-wife says. Repulsive, dangerous and self-serving fucker. And, I live next door to these idiots.

Want2bSupermum · 27/11/2015 04:33

He hasnt been convicted so I don't agree with your statement. Their marriage was breaking down. People do shitty things to each other when that's happening. If she had a case she could have reported the incident as rape after the divorce was finalized. She didn't so he hasn't been prosecuted and found guilty.

Americans love to bring someone like him down who breaks the law, making an example of them. Look at what they did with Martha Stewart. They brought her down from being bigger than Oprah on an insider trading deal that profited her by something stupidly low like $110k. In terms of her wealth it's not even breadcrumbs on the floor.

Seriouslyffs · 27/11/2015 04:35

I've been googling and I'm amazed no one has pointed out the 'yellow star analogy"
Lots of lovely tweets and posts of Muslim Drs, police, sherifs, ID cards going viral though.

TheTigerIsOut · 28/11/2015 07:46

C'mon Want2be, Hillary has already been president of the US Grin

(if all that moaning of Americans complaining about her strong influence on her husband's mandate is to be believed)
