to ask how much you are planning to spend on Xmas gifts?

Not a goady/judgey thread at all, just keen to set myself a budget so I don't go crazy this year again

I'm wondering how much people generally budget to spend on gifts in total (so friends, family etc. not just children)
Is anyone else anal enough to set a budget per category? i'm so sad eg. £10 for aunts/uncles £20 per friend etc etc.

Surely your budget will depend on your own personal circumstances though? £20 is nothing to some people but loads for others.

But fwiw - I don't set a budget from the start. I tend to try and choose something meaningful, and the price is secondary, within what I know I can afford.

DH gets £50
Kids get £200
Parents everyone else gets £20

This is generally what I'm going for tbf however I have a tendancy to overspend when it comes to gift giving so I thought seeing other people's budgets would give me a better idea

£50 to £60 on each of four children
£5 to £10 on each of five godchildren
£20 to £25 on one husband
Hopefully less than £300 in total

I've finished except for my nephew and parents.

I've bought for four girls aged 19, 17, 12 and 10 and dp and two cats. More than £1000 but less than £1500. I actually have no idea what I've spent exactly.

We are spending up to £100 on each of our two children. They don't want for anything an will be getting lots of presents from family.

Everyone else gets a present up to £20, but I've managed to grab a lot of bargains, so spend is less. We have about 20 people to buy for as we have a lot of family.

I vary year on year as to what I can afford but also what I think is a fair amount
older kids get about £150 they are 24, and 21.
dd 11, will get about £200 as the older ones had the equivalent when they were little.
Dh will get about £200 as well, but mostly clothes that he needs.
Then about £25 on their gfs
Niece also about £25

That's it really, apart from a couple of pounds here and there/ donated gifts perhaps another £25

don't know, haven't thought about it.

We put £40 a month into a Christmas fund and buy all ours from that.

not sure what purpose these threads serve anyway, other than to whip everyone up into a frenzy of self-justification.

Oh, plus tesco boost vouchers and a £50 Amazon voucher from British Gas

£20 for my siblings and my DPS siblings (consisting of two gifts each), around £30 per parent and DPS parents. We are doing joint gifts too, we are expecting so family know we can't afford much. And we are not doing gifts for friends - most friends are more than happy to do this as everyone's hard up!

Also, we are going to make a load of nice homemade Christmas soaps as extra presents for everyone (cheap to make, meaningful as handmade)

When I was little, my parents had a budget of £100 each for me and my siblings.

Where are you planning on shopping? Maybe get a headstart on xmas2016 and get all gifts in Xmas sales (....that's what I did to save money)

I overspend too but I've found I can control it a bit if I make a list of what I am going to get/have bought so even if I later see something that I think oooo so and so would love that I can then remind myself that no, I've already bought X for that person and already spent X amount. And make a note of it for next year!

What's right depends on on your circumstances.

What I spend is not what other people should spend. Nor do I base what I am spending, on other people.

It varies on different people.

Nephew/nieces - £10-15
In-laws - £20-25
Siblings -£10-15
Dc's - £100 on main present, plus probably another £100 on bits and pieces (t-shirt, books, sports stuff etc)
Other - £5-15

I' fairly flexible so if I see something cheaper but suitable, I won't add extra, and other people get slightly more than the budgeted amount. Usually, my bil gets a lot,more spent then I should because he's awkward to buy for, so I do a panic, last minute buy for him.

My kids don't get gifts from anyone other than us, & my Dad. All other grandparents long gone :(
My siblings don't gift to children over 10. My friends and I don't give gifts to each other's children.
To make it more jolly for my kids I spend a fair bit on them probably budget around £300 each. (4 kids)
I also still give them a stocking at the end of the bed with bits & bobs in (£100 each approx) even for the 20 year old.
I will buy something for DH ( no idea what) and something for Dad ( no idea what)
Probably maximum 2k in total.

We don't have children. Usually spend £100 on DH but we've booked a holiday for next year so are using that as our present to each other and just spending £30 on stocking fillers.

I've been buying since August to spread the cost and have more or less finished except for my Mum who point blank refuses to tell me what she wants!! So far she has a £6 photo phone cover of the grandchildren and a waterproof kindle case which was £5.

Prob about 500 all in when you consider a few friends etc.

Mostly just spend on the kids tbh then token gifts up to a tenner on parents etc

Haven't really worked out a budget yet, but not very much as DP lost his job this year and I'm worried about mine. We are going to concentrate on nieces and nephews, and a very small token for adults.

About £70 each child plus maybe £30 each for stocking fillers.
Usually £30 for DH but this time £100 because he asked for something in particular.
£10-£30 for the rest of the family.

£200 each for the kids (not including stockings and little extras)
£50 on parents
£30 on my Grandma
£10 on Phylis the Rabbit.

I've overspent. As always.

£350 on my son (it's his birthday in December so the PS4 is for both: Birthmas)
£80 on DP
£50 on my mum
£5-20 on everyone else
