Not a goady/judgey thread at all, just keen to set myself a budget so I don't go crazy this year again Grin

I'm wondering how much people generally budget to spend on gifts in total (so friends, family etc. not just children)
Is anyone else anal enough to set a budget per category? i'm so sad eg. £10 for aunts/uncles £20 per friend etc etc.

(to balance out the sheer nosiness of this thread, please see left for a picture of a grumpy Christmas cat)

to ask how much you are planning to spend on Xmas gifts?

Less than I could, more than I should, less than I can afford.
No way on the blue marble am I ever going into debt for one overinflated and ridiculous day that only means what it does because of rabid consumerism.

Bah fecking humbug.

No budget really but a rough calculation
DSes = 150€ each (age 4&2) - one main plus stocking
DH =150-200€ depending what he wants
MIL = 100€
My parents = 200€ between them
DNephew = 30€ + 120€ for his savings account (he gets tonnes of presents from SIL's family)

Don't buy between siblings or friends so total is under 1K€

I could easily buy loads more for the DC but they get lots from grandparents to the point we've had to ask them to limit the number as it overwhelms them

I don't really have a budget. The dc are small so I buy whatever toys I think they'll like.

It's looking like about £100 each on the children, and about £150 between the other family and friends gifts. Food and fun will be another £150 or so. We don't do big Christmas, which suits us :)

I've spent £110 on my toddler and I'm done. It's more than I wanted to spend.
About £75 for OH.
I don't buy for anyone else really, just sweets etc.

It varies so some years DH and I give each other nothing and some years we may spend a few hundred pounds. DS again varies, he had an Xbox one last year and that was with games about £350. I spend about £20 on each of my four nieces but the eldest one has just started University so her last year of receiving a gift so I have spent £70 on Dr Martens shoes for her.

The only thing I can say for sure is the cat is getting a fur lined cat igloo for £7.99 from family bargains.

I only have 5 or 6 people to buy for really (no kids, tiny family, don't do gifts with most friends) and the money isn't an issue really. In total I will probably end up spending about £200-300 plus postage costs of sending 3 of them overseas.

Mostly I try to buy something meaningful; I really hate generic token presents like scented candles!

So far I've spent £40ish on ds and will get him another present but nothing over £30.

Not buying for dp this year as we're getting married in January and that's eating into any spare cash we have.

We have 7 family members to buy for, 3 couples and one single they will all get some homemade culinary treats and school photo of ds.

It's the cheapest Xmas I've done since ds was born and I'm yet to feel guilty about it!

Usually maybe £1500 on Christmas. (But we both have huge families)

This year we're buying a house and being stupidly thrifty. I'm trying to buy almost nothing! (Having said that I bought both my girls scooters today so that's 180 gone!)

Around 350 on dd - and around 200 on the rest of the family combined, I just buy what I think they will like with no set budget. Altogether with food, drink, wrapping paper, cards & stamps, travel, outings and meals out and a new outfit it will probably add up to around 1.5-2k - about the same as a summer holiday, and for me Christmas is just that - a holiday, a break from routine. I really don't care if other people spend, be it zero or 10k - I spend what I am comfortable with.

I've just added mine up and it's about £500 or so, which is:

£150 each on DC (2 of them)
£15 each on godchildren and nieces/nephews
£100 on parents and PIL and step PIL (combined, but we club together with siblings so they get something decent).

Don't buy for DP or other adults.

We are possibly stingy as this represents less than 1/6th of our monthly income. But I agree with not making it about material things and "stuff".

Varies DS - we have spent anything from £100 - £400 (in recent years - much less when a toddler/young primary age). .
I don't do many other Christmas presents but they all vary.
DH - we don't bother.
MIL/FIL - £25 each or up to £150 between them if there is something we know they would really want.
Dad - £10 up to £75 - usually only wants chocolate/bottle of spirits and anything else would simply not be used.
Nephews and nieces - small selection/novelty chocolates + £10 (spend about £30 on their birthdays).
Generally we try to avoid Christmas gift exchanges with anyone beyond DS and parents. We do give gifts for birthdays though.
I'm one of those kill-joys who loathe adult Christmas presents.

In total varies from about £250 up to £750, averaging at about £500.

This is reassuring, I seem to be middling with the amount I have in my mind to spend.

I'm making a lot of my presents for relatives (the cheapness waylaid by the sheer amount of effort) so I can splurge on my Mum (who totally deserves it and isn't likely to get anything too extravagent from anyone else) and my housemate who I might love a little bit

I don't have children and I'm a Nanny so only have the one work colleague (and shes a baby so she doesn't care!) and my friends aren't likely to get me anything so I think it'll be prettily wrapped brownies for them Grin

I don't buy for anyone other than close family. So can spend a bit more on them. I do utterly detest finding and buying Christmas presents. I don't even like receiving them unless it's money

My children get £100 roughly each. Probably more. My nephews about £10 each. My parents £30 each. Husband £50 probably. Two shoeboxes heading to romania at £20 each. The show boxes are the only things ive done ao far!

I dont go mad at christmas and prefer to buy people little things throughout the year.
