to think that this 'transsexual' Jesus play should not get public funding?

I would say 'no words' but how about "disgusting, insulting, disrespectful, immoral..." need I go on? How does this awful thing get 'public funding' - I'd be demanding a refund of my council tax. Enough already!

She.
And I still don't see an explanation of why it's offensive.

Roseforarose · 12/11/2015 23:08

I shouldn't have to defend my religion though. How dare you call me a narrow minded bigot for defending my faith.Nobody has the right to ridicule anyone's religion. Fwiw I haven't attacked any religion, nor ridiculed, I responded to a post that said Christians demand special privileges in this country compared to other religions.

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 23:12

"I responded to a post that said Christians demand special privileges in this country compared to other religions."

They do!

Roseforarose · 12/11/2015 23:14

What exactly?

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 23:17

Education.
House of Lords.
Equality legislation.

To name but 3.

Dawndonnaagain · 12/11/2015 23:17

You mentioned, somewhat unnecessarily, Syria, you went on to say that ther they behead people for being 'the wrong type of Christian' and 'throw gays of high buildings'. How is that a defence of your religion, rose?

Dawndonnaagain · 12/11/2015 23:17

There.

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 23:18

Please could you explain exactly how the play under discussion is offensive to Christians? Preferably with quotations?

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 23:19

Did you watch it al, the way through when you saw it, or did you have to leave?

Roseforarose · 12/11/2015 23:26

Read the thread, you'll see why I mentioned it.
Bertrand these things you mention aren't special privileges at all. The country was founded on Christianity, they haven't been granted as any special privileges. All you are doing is quoting things that have a Christian connection. Not all schools are Christian either.
Is it just Christianity you have a problem with, no other religions? or is it that attacking Christians doesn't get you flamed.

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/11/2015 23:29

They haven't been granted as special privileges? Huh? That might not be how they came about but they are certainly privileges now.

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 23:32

Is it just Christianity you have a problem with, no other religions?" As I said- i am happy to "live and let live". The problem is that in this country, Christiqns aren!t prepared to do the same. If any other religion tried to impose itself on me I would have an equal problem with them

Which bits of the play did you dislike most?

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 23:34

"Not all schools are Christian either"

All state schools are.

Dawndonnaagain · 12/11/2015 23:35

I've read the thread, you attacked another religion, unnecessarily.

Roseforarose · 12/11/2015 23:35

Just how are they trying to impose themselves on you. Do they come round knocking on your door like jehovas witnesses?

BertrandRussell · 12/11/2015 23:47

Rose- I haven't seen the play. Could you tell us about it?

Roseforarose · 12/11/2015 23:51

I've attacked a religion unnecessarily? Well what about my religion getting attacked. Why is it all right for that? Think about what your saying, my religion is being attacked, no one else's. I haven't. Stop attacking my religion unnecessarily. Or does that not count.

Catsize · 12/11/2015 23:58

I am a practising Christian with a Masters degree in a Christianity-related area.
I see this as an opportunity for debate amongst Christians, and also an opportunity to promote Christianity.
I would rather a play that takes a different slant on things to prompt discussion, than no discussion at all.
Colin Hart, typically, fails to see and seize this opportunity.

ShadowsCollideIsSurroundedByAd · 12/11/2015 23:58

How exactly is the play in question attacking or mocking Christians? Unless you think that Jesus being played by a woman is an attack or mocking? Did Jesus dislike women so much that he'd object to being portrayed by one?

Even if this play was mocking Christians, that's allowed, right? FWIW, I think I'm allowed to laugh at whatever religion I fancy. Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Rastafarianism or Zoroastrianism. Not that I do. You can believe in whatever you like , as long as you don't seek to impose your beliefs on me.

As to what have Christians done that is mock worthy. Well here in Ireland, the Iona Institute for a start. What with their desire to disallow same sex marriage or abortion. In fact, given that so many vocal Christians would rob me of my right to bodily autonomy, I dare say that I am more persecuted by them than they are by me. Still, poor, poor persecuted Christians, right?

Roseforarose · 12/11/2015 23:59

Can you imagine the absolute uproar if Mohammed was depicted as a transsexual in a play.It would be deeply offensive to Muslims and rightly so.Unbelievable but oh so predictable that it doesn't matter if it's offensive to Christians.Makes me sick.

Roseforarose · 13/11/2015 00:02

Be thankful you live in such a tolerant country where you can freely air your views. Try living in the Middle East. You'd be lucky to be able to drive a car.

ShadowsCollideIsSurroundedByAd · 13/11/2015 00:05

As offensive to Muslims as you are offended by this, Rose. So what's the difference? Muslims would be offended, you're offended. So it's exactly the same, right?

Catsize · 13/11/2015 00:09

Be thankful you live in such a tolerant country where you can freely air your views
But Rose, you seemed to ge arguing against this in your previous post?

ShadowsCollideIsSurroundedByAd · 13/11/2015 00:09

'Try living in the Middle East. You'd be lucky to be able to drive a car'.

What exactly does that have to do with the topic being discussed? Or are you just looking for an opportunity to toss in some anti Islamic sentiment? Not a particularly Christian attitude, waiting for an opportunity to spew hate all over the place. Jesus would be so disappointed.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/11/2015 00:10

Has anyone actually explained WHY it's offensive. I may have missed it.
