AIBU to put washing up liquid in my dishwasher?

Damn, I thought I had another packet of tabs but it turns out it's salt. Dishwasher is full. Can I put washing up liquid in the socket thing or will my dishwasher over-froth and end up looking like a foam disco?

It will be foam partay time. Don't do it.

Moln · 11/11/2015 21:27

Don't do it!!!

The world will fill with the bubbles.

TobleroneBoo · 11/11/2015 21:27

I think it will over froth

madwomanbackintheattic · 11/11/2015 21:27

Oh do it. But only if you promise to to take pictures and post them. Grin

ShamelessBreadAddict · 11/11/2015 21:27

My guess would be foam disco... My DSIS used to do it at work and it was fine. She did it in my dad's dishwasher and broke it... He found it funny fortunately.

Passmethecrisps · 11/11/2015 21:27

It will foam and won't rinse properly. I once rinsed glasses with washing up liquid before putting them in the dishwasher. It wasn't a cartoony mess but it took an empty rinse to wash it out

WingMirrorSpider · 11/11/2015 21:27

Don't use washing up liquid! I read somewhere that biological washing powder is OK to use in dishwashers in an emergency.

HPsauciness · 11/11/2015 21:27

Over froth, I have done it, it took ages to clear up the mess.

MsJamieFraser · 11/11/2015 21:27

If you want a foam party.... Crack on.

atticusclaw2 · 11/11/2015 21:27

There's an old Doris Day film where this happens. It will be exactly like a foam party.

Twinkie1 · 11/11/2015 21:28

It's a bad idea. I've done fairy and bleach and the results were catastrophic!!

INeedACheeseSlicer · 11/11/2015 21:28

No don't do it!

Just run it without a tablet at 60 degrees, probably it will still get things clean.

ProfGrammaticus · 11/11/2015 21:28

Foam party

AnyoneButAndre · 11/11/2015 21:28

Christ almighty! don't even think about it unless you want to stage an impromptu foam party.

Dishwasher will get most stuff acceptably clean and sterile with no tablet actually - I know this because mine has a dodgy dispenser hinge that sometimes doesn't open.

ivykaty44 · 11/11/2015 21:28

Use washing powder......

NorthernLurker · 11/11/2015 21:30

Don't do it. I once chucked the water out of a jug which had had cutlery standing in it into mine. Very dilute fairy liquid and I still had to spend hours scooping out foam and rinsing it. It didn't squeeze round the door but I have seen that happen elsewhere.

MountainDweller · 11/11/2015 21:30

Just run it on a hot cycle, it still comes out clean (unless you have baked on sauce on your dishes).

Mintyy · 11/11/2015 21:31

Can't it wait til tomorrow Confused ?

katemiddletonsothermum · 11/11/2015 21:32

That perverse part of me is now wanting to try it out. But the sensible part of me says NO as the warranty ran out last week and I'd have to pay to have it fixed.

OP posts:
Muckogy · 11/11/2015 21:33

You'll wreck your machine if you do that.

Blowninonabreeze · 11/11/2015 21:33

This is exactly the situation that neighbours are for surely?
Someone will lend you a tablet. We're always at it round here

katemiddletonsothermum · 11/11/2015 21:33

I could Mintyy but there's overfill in the sink. So I actually....have... to.....

WASH UP....

wotoodoo · 11/11/2015 21:51

Use white wine vinegar on a hot cycle

pestilence13610 · 11/11/2015 21:53

It is not the machine that gets wrecked, it is the kitchen floor. The foam just seeps out of spaces that you never knew your dishwasher had and crawls across the kitchen floor like some sort of other dimension being. I do not know why it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Do it, be ready with dustpan, bucket, towels and video recorder Grin

Mysteryfla · 11/11/2015 21:53

You can use regular dish detergent. Use just a spot no bigger than a penny.
