AIBU to put washing up liquid in my dishwasher?

Damn, I thought I had another packet of tabs but it turns out it's salt. Dishwasher is full. Can I put washing up liquid in the socket thing or will my dishwasher over-froth and end up looking like a foam disco?

A tiny amount of washing up liquid and some baking soda works fine instead of tablets.

ChineseLaundry15 · 11/11/2015 21:56

Use a tiny tiny spot of liquid. It will be fine ??

Palomb · 11/11/2015 21:57

Don't do it.

patterkiller · 11/11/2015 21:57

I did this by accident. There was washing up liquid in a pan that DH was going to wash up but I put in the dishwasher. It was akin to a carry on film. Foam part is no exaggeration.

Dixiechickonhols · 11/11/2015 21:58

I'd run it just with water. Will be some residue left. If the tablet doesn't dissolve sometimes pots are ok.

TheWatchersCouncil · 11/11/2015 21:58

Froth City.

If you do it, can you take photos and post? Grin

MediumBox · 11/11/2015 21:59

din't do it.
just use no detergent, the hot water will get stuff clean enough this once.

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 11/11/2015 22:01

Yeah. Just don't use much. It does foam a bit but it's fine for a one off

PrimalLass · 11/11/2015 22:02

I've done it loads of times. No foam party, and I'm in a soft water area. It doesn't wash brilliantly though, but better than nothing.

PacificDogwod · 11/11/2015 22:02

Do it, do it, do it, do it!!

AliceInUnderpants · 11/11/2015 22:04

Ugh? How about unloading the dishwasher contents into the sink and washing them there using the washing up liquid, if it can't wait until tomorrow?

EllieJayJay · 11/11/2015 22:04

Friend did this once when leaving a rented house she had run out of tablets

IT TOOK HOURS to clean up the mess

monkeyfacegrace · 11/11/2015 22:04

Ive done it loads too. Some people are so dramatic. Just chuck in a tiny squirt and itll be fine.

seasidesally · 11/11/2015 22:08

dont dishwashers have residue in them like washing machines

cant you eek it out that way

i have no experience of dishwashers ever

madwomanbackintheattic · 11/11/2015 22:08

Oh no, it's a well known fact that dishwasher tablets are much stronger than washing up liquid, so you need at least a mug full.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 11/11/2015 22:14

I did it, a whole deep fat fryer worth of oil sorted it out, then running it without nothing in.

CantSee4Looking · 11/11/2015 22:15

Having made a washing machine vomit bubbles, I can safely say you do not want to spend 3 hrs tonight clearing the mess up. It is not worth it. Wash up by hand.

cdtaylornats · 11/11/2015 22:15

I got a jacuzzi and my girlfriend used bubble bath I expect this will be similar and not good.

merrymouse · 11/11/2015 22:18

Just run it without. Most things will be cleaned, and those that aren't you'll just have to hand wash.

OTheHugeManatee · 11/11/2015 22:24

If you do it will be frothier than a MN thread about immigration.

StayWithMe · 11/11/2015 22:25

Hahaha. You evil genius. Grin

HesterShaw · 11/11/2015 22:26

I did this once. It made weird foamy clunking noises but there was no lasting damage.

Do it! Just to see what will happen.

HesterShaw · 11/11/2015 22:26

(the white vinegar thing is probably more sensible)

SoupDragon · 11/11/2015 22:27

Oh, please do it! And video it!

In the spirit of helpfulness' if you run it with butter in afterwards, it apparently clears the foam out.

DeriArms · 11/11/2015 22:32

I did it once in someone else's house.....they still take the piss out of me about it to this day.
