My health visitor can out to see me after my 2 year old son have a temperature and rash had a A&E visit over it she was saying you have to put cold water in the bath 1st or he will be burned and drown my son is not left in the bathroom alone she was very ignorant and was basically telling me how to safeguard my son in the bathroom my son has 3 different types of eczema and have had this since birth has been to see a skin specialist about this she was Intent on making me see a different specialist she even made appointments for me to see my GP my GP said my son does not need any skin specialist she left a voicemail on my phone for me to call her when I called her she was telling me I have to safeguard the outside of the property that I'm living in in this she told me I had to get a cage that attaches to my front door so my 2 year old son can go outside and play I was told buy her to leave my son unattended outside in a cage I would never leave my child unattended at any point been outside and is watching when in the bath has anyone got any advice on this matter as I'm not a stupid person that would leave a 2 year old in a cage outside but there are young mums out there that could possibly take notice to what thishealth visitor has told me

OP said she wants to record the HV next time she sees her.

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 09/11/2015 22:37

PaulAnka, I don't think it matters if Caz' first language is English or not, if anything if she and the HV are communicating in what might not be their native tongues, it's even more important that the HV, as the professional, makes sure that the client is clear on what's been suggested. If Caz has come away with the impression that the advice given is that she should keep her two year old in a cage in the front garden, the HV has failed, even if she was trying to communicate something totally different.

fastdaytears · 09/11/2015 22:37

Oh I see. To go to the press with.

caz1987k · 09/11/2015 22:38

PaulAnkaTheDog thanks for your concern as to my first language! It's English, now did you ever learn manners? As I said the cage/playpen was for my son to play in the garden in November or any other month by the sounds of what she said on the phone, and no I'm not out to destroy anyone in the press but if I or anyone left a baby out in a cage/pen he/she would be taken off them!

Chippednailvarnish · 09/11/2015 22:38

Mmm, well what's more likely? The HV told the OP to put the child in a cage or the HV told the OP to put the dog in the cage?

Hmm

My manners are pretty decent thank you. I wasn't rude to you, I asked (like several others) about a potential language barrier as it is completely relevant to this situation.

I look forward to this hitting press when you get the recording of a Health Visitor telling you to cage your baby outside in winter.

BondJayneBond · 09/11/2015 22:41

Fresh air in the UK in November is fine as long as everyone is dressed properly for the cold and weather.

AliceInUnderpants · 09/11/2015 22:41

Did she happen to mention where you could buy these child-cages? Purely hypothetically of course.....

FattyNinjaOwl · 09/11/2015 22:41

I'm even more Confused now than I was at the beginning of this thread

ghostyslovesheep · 09/11/2015 22:43

???

told to leave my 2 year son outside
Chippednailvarnish · 09/11/2015 22:44

Thanks for that Ghosty, I've nearly made that mistake myself!

FattyNinjaOwl · 09/11/2015 22:45

ghosty so that's where I've been going wrong! I thought I was getting some funny looks from visitors...

MorrisZapp · 09/11/2015 22:46

Oh my days.

Fairenuff · 09/11/2015 22:46

Ah, I think I know what's happened. What you are referring to as a cage is actually a playpen. The HV calls it a play pen and OP, who for some reason doesn't like them, calls it a cage.

A bit like someone who doesn't like reins would call it a lead. It's putting a derogatory spin on something ordinary. But in the case it has totally confused us all on the thread.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 09/11/2015 22:47

I'm confused as to why the OP was adamant she said 'cage' and now (in the comment when she called me rude Hmm) she is referring to it as playpen and saying the problem is putting the baby outside. Seems as though she might be realising there was a communication error.

I'm starting to wonder whether she was perhaps annoyed at the health visitor coming round, reading too much into things and is looking for something to be annoyed at. Happens to everyone when they are stressed, tired, annoyed etc.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/11/2015 22:49

TBF she called it a pen in her 3rd post, where she clarified the first one. I don't think the OP is necessarily responsible for any confusion after that point.

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 09/11/2015 22:49

Cage; playpen; cardboard box; whatever, it's the leaving unattended in the front garden advice that would worry me.

Limer · 09/11/2015 22:49

Ah, the HV was on the phone? The penny drops. Bet the child is called Rover and the dog's called Jayden.

caz1987k · 09/11/2015 22:49

Playpen or cage would you or anyone in the right mind leave a 2 year old baby out in one and go in your house about your business fairenuff while living next door to a shop in the middle of nowhere

OP posts:
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/11/2015 22:51

Sorry 4th post I can't count.

Passmethecrisps · 09/11/2015 22:51

No one would op.

If you are concerned about her advice being dangerous speak to your GP.

Otherwise just wipe it from your mind. You don't need to engage with HVs if you don't want to.

caz1987k · 09/11/2015 22:52

Limer would you not call my child rover as this post is isn't about a dog!
