I know I'm BU but I can't be the only one - queuing etiquette and personal space issues

Recently I've become quite annoyed when queuing, I move up, and the personal behind me moves up closely behind me so they are practically dry humping me.

This happened in Boots last week, the queue turned a corner and I was almost sat on the shelves by the time she'd finished rear ending me. It happened again today in Sainsbury's cafe queue, normally I'd expect dinner and a bottle of wine before such close proximity. I felt like asking her if she wanted a bite of my sandwich.

It must be me getting over annoyed by this. I have recently been more of a grumpy bastard than usual, I'm blaming the weather.

Am I alone in BU in not wanting to be dry humped from behind in queues?

I put my hand up, take a step forward and tell them there's no need to follow, that I want space..always works.
A manager in work puts his two hands on the arm of your chair when asking a question...I asked him was he trying to give me a lap dance..he done it since lol.

magicstar1 · 07/11/2015 18:29

Hasn't done it ffs

GrizzlebertGrumbledink · 07/11/2015 18:29

I dumped a boyfriend because he always stood too close to people in queues and clearly made them uncomfortable. I couldn't stand to watch it

Caprinihahahaha · 07/11/2015 18:30

My son has asd and hates this. I think sometimes people feel that pressing their scrotum into the back of the person in front will speed up the whole queue.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 07/11/2015 18:32

I've normally been in the gym when I go to the shop... I've found re - tying my very sweaty hair quite vigirously gets them moving pretty quickly!

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2015 18:33

I have told this one before but I was in a queue in WHSmith. Two cashiers both busy, I was next in the queue. A man standing very close behind. As soon as one lady was putting her purse away he grabbed my elbows from behind and pushed me towards the not yet quite free cashier. Hmm

reni2 · 07/11/2015 18:36

Fling your swishy pony tail in their face. If you hair won't allow a swishy pony tail, get a feathery scarf or a hat with a large bobble.

derxa · 07/11/2015 18:38

I had two arseholes people behind me today at the supermarket. I didn't tell them to fuck off.. which was very restrained of me.

YakTriangle · 07/11/2015 18:40

Sparkling, I would be furious Angry I hope you told them off? someone jabbed me in the back with their finger once in an attempt to get a queue to move faster - I was rather outraged and told them to piss off.

reni2 · 07/11/2015 18:40

Air-golf or air-tennis exercises work well, too I find.

TwoDrifters · 07/11/2015 18:46

I can't abide this. I usually manoeuvre my basket or trolley to take up the gap between me and the person behind. Then I get to control how closely I stand to the person in front. Extra passive aggressive bonus points if the person in front moves forward and you don't move at all. You can feel the queue behind you collectively seethe. It takes all of 2 seconds to walk forward once the cashier is free, people!

DoJo · 07/11/2015 18:47

I once had to ask someone at a gig to stop leaning on me! It was relatively busy, but we were near the back and there was definitely room for him to support his own body weight, but he still got a bit huffy and defensive.

Caprinihahahaha · 07/11/2015 18:49

TwoDrifters
Oh god I do that, let the queue move forward but stay still. People really hate that.

BeverlyGoldberg · 07/11/2015 18:50

Well you lot have cheered me up. I thought it was me being a grumpy fucker.

chippednailvarnish this happened to me too. When I asked for more room on the conveyer the wife of the guy said "what did she want she want"! He said "I'm in trouble for not giving her enough room on the conveyor belt"! Just fuck off unless you want to pay for my shopping.

I think a hair flick will be I order. Or I might present to sniff my own arm pit and waft it. I'll sink to new lengths to avoid a dry hump.

My next peeve is people that let their children scan their shopping at self service check outs when the place is rammed. It's not adorable, I just want to get home and take my bra off!

Shock Sparkling

I hate people invading my space.

I tend to leave one leg sticking out behind me, this works quite well.

putcustardonit · 07/11/2015 18:52

On an bus in India a man put his legs over the back of my seat and rested his feet in my shoulders.

DH once did a really smelly fart in the supermarket queue, they all visible moved back Grin

Sparklingbrook · 07/11/2015 18:53

I let all of womankind down by being so offended/shocked I said nothing Yak. If it ever happens again I will be ready though.

Oh god yes Beverley people who use the self service tills as some sort of educational experience for their children. Hmm Just scan it already. I feel like doing it for them. Angry

Caprinihahahaha · 07/11/2015 18:55

A woman at swimming sat behind me, took off her shoes and put them over the back of my chair so they sat there, like matching smelly parrots.
Euuuurgh.

Caprinihahahaha · 07/11/2015 18:58

Also at swimming...

A woman ignored an almost completely empty viewing section, sat next to me and then asked me to turn my headphone music down. She was outraged when I politely said no.

Another woman sat at a table with her friend on one side of the cafe and sat her young child on the table next to me on the other. She then handed him a tablet with a really noisy game on. I put breaking bad on my tablet. She moved him quite quickly.

Caprinihahahaha · 07/11/2015 18:58

I have a lot of swimming stories.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 07/11/2015 19:00

I hold my ground and never move up. Someone was behind me in lidl the other day and obviously wanted me to offer him in front....

it was well busy, trolleys being unloaded, I only had an armful of stuff and he had a bottle of brandy, if I'd had a trolley full and he had not been huffy I might have let him go, but he'd vexed me and I only had a few bits.

anyhow I just stood there rummaging in my handbag, while the trolley in front was scanned, packed and paid for, he was practically fizzing with temper because I wouldn't rearend the lady in front, and then the checkout lady cottoned on and was making conversation with them and me :D

And like twodrifters says, it makes no difference to the time they wait, they still get there in their turn, but without all the space invading!

Marmaladybird · 07/11/2015 19:01

I hate this so much. If I have a trolley with me I put it behind me so it forms a barrier. They can dry hump my trolley as much as they want. If I only have a basket, I kind of put one foot behind me so they can't get as close as they seem to want to...

Leelu6 · 07/11/2015 19:06

YANBU

I purposely move forward slowly in queues if the person behind me is too close behind me. That annoys them every time Grin

Leelu6 · 07/11/2015 19:14

Oops, I see everyone does this, now I've RTFT pg2.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 07/11/2015 19:15

Oh I detest this behaviour - back the fuck off people,
