Yes, I know I am really, but this is about as exciting as my life gets at the moment Grin. Well, that, and the fact that I treated myself to a new ironing board yesterday...

But that advert doesn't make me want to buy anything from JL though Mrs, well no more than I normally would. I do go to JL to have a look at their Christmas decs though because they are always beautiful

Me either. Don't think I have bought anything from jl

73dexter · 06/11/2015 09:26

According to the review of the wooden telescope it is very crap!

SquareStarfish · 06/11/2015 09:26

I thought quite a few MNers would be pleased that John lewis are selling the dark blue space pyjamas as unisex rather feeling the need to bring out a pink version too.

I have bought a few things from JL mail order. My nearest store is 20 miles away, I have been a handful of times but don't really get the raving about it. It's a bit of a clinical shopping experience and I always think I could get it cheaper elsewhere.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 06/11/2015 09:28

More my point, Lucas was the fact that the telescopes have sold out lready, so a lot of people did instantly just jump online to buy what was flogged to them through nothing less than emotional blackmail. I wonder how many of those people's instant reaction was to check on their elderly neighbours or call their parents/grandparents? No, their first thought was 'better get little Johnny that telescope that he'll use once then forget about because he wants to see an imaginary 'man in the moon''. I haven't even checked the price this year, wasn't that bloody penguin about £80 or there about? For a sodding stuffed toy Hmm. Amazing what a bit of tearjerking can do/sell.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2015 09:30

Who would buy space pyjamas because they tie in with an advert? Confused

waitingforgodot · 06/11/2015 09:31

Aww I liked it. Well done JL

TattyDevine · 06/11/2015 09:32

Re the "It's November" thing - it was my birthday on the 4th November. All the presents that were gift wrapped by Amazon were in CHRISTMAS SODDING PAPER. It's like they say "right, its November, the only reason anybody might be giving a gift is for Christmas". Grrr.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 06/11/2015 09:32

Imagine the thread on here if a parent discovered their child was being watched in their bedroom by a lonely old man with a telescope

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2015 09:33

That doesn't seem to be an issue Only Confused

OnceAnOwl · 06/11/2015 09:34

There's a whole load of merchandise on the JL website, including PVC table cloth, cushion, star chocolates. Hope people who buy this stuff match the price with a donation to Age UK.

myfriendsson · 06/11/2015 09:42

Oh well this advert has thoroughly depressed me. I love John Lewis Christmas Adverts and I'm disappointed. A lovely reminder to lonely people everywhere what fun everyone else is having at Christmas. Never mind though, maybe someone will send you a parcel in the post. What fun it'll be if you can actually see what you're missing out on. Enjoy your Christmas. ALONE. FFS.

RattusRattus · 06/11/2015 09:46

OMG!! Let's keep this in perspective - it's an Xmas ad. Not a bandwagon for the paedo police.

Hersetta427 · 06/11/2015 09:48

Liked it but not as much as last year's penguin one.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2015 09:49

OMG!! It's not real? Shock Grin

MotherOfFlagons · 06/11/2015 09:49

I liked the penguins better, even if they did traffic Mabel into a forced marriage with Monty.

trulybadlydeeply · 06/11/2015 09:49

Well, I loved that. It felt quite "stripped back" compared to previous years. I think the message is powerfully conveyed as well.

Just to add, I have never, ever been sucked into buying any of the merchandise relating to the adverts, for me it's not a material thing at all. Although I recognise that many people are. I was excited once though, when I bought some completely unrelated items, and they were given to me in a bear and the hare bag!

OP posts:
FreddoBaggyMac · 06/11/2015 09:52

Nice but not as good as the penguins. Didn't make me cry.
On par with the bear and the hare one I feel.

Chilledmonkeybrains · 06/11/2015 09:53

Some people are mean spirited. Advertising is an art form and while you may not like the product or sentiment, can't you still appreciate the work, time and care that went into it? Creativity should be celebrated.

Think about those shitty Daz ads with Danny Baker or the fecking 118 crap or the bloody meerkat. At least JL make the effort to make something beautiful.

JL spend

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/11/2015 09:54

God the November thing is so annoying if you have November birthday. I heard someone say Christmas has invaded Autumn this year, Autumn is such a beautiful time of year but everything is so bloody Christmassy already.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2015 09:55

I have never viewed advertising as an art form. It's supposed to get you to buy stuff so as far as that goes the JL one has failed on me.

I am surprised Noel Gallagher allowed the song too.

myfriendsson · 06/11/2015 09:56

I've just watched it again. I really hate it. Ok, it's only an advert but how crap it'll make lonely people feel at Christmas. There's even an Up reference with all the balloons. The old man in Up got a friend. This guy is alone. I can imagine folk saying "Never mind grandpa, we'll send him a nice gift in the post at christmas instead of visiting. It'll make him cry with joy. Look at the happy man in the John Lewis advert." FFS.

KidLorneRoll · 06/11/2015 09:56

I can't believe people still fall for this shite.

Slow, crappy cover of a popular indie song sung by some no-name female in sad voice over some emo-bullshit animation.

Cynical, manipulative rubbish for idiots.

LucasIsMyMuse · 06/11/2015 10:00

Agree totally with Chilledmonkeybrains

Chipstick10 · 06/11/2015 10:00

Well done to John Lewis for highlighting Age concern .
