Yes, I know I am really, but this is about as exciting as my life gets at the moment Grin. Well, that, and the fact that I treated myself to a new ironing board yesterday...

Not as impactful as previous years' ads. I didn't know about the Age Concern tie in - I like that but as others have said, it's a bit underwhelming. [hsmile]

KnockMeDown · 06/11/2015 08:58

I've just watched it, and it had me crying - proper sobs - just as well that I am in the office alone today.

I can understand that it might not have the same effect on everyone, but for me, the man in the moon just made me think of my Dad, who is almost 94, and completely shut off from the world due to Alzheimer's. He has been getting even worse recently, I honestly think this will be his last Christmas. I just want to give him a hug now.

Crying again now Sad

Twitterqueen · 06/11/2015 08:59

And why isn't the Christmas emoticon working?

KnockMeDown · 06/11/2015 09:00

I didn't realise that there was a tie in with Age Concern but that certainly makes sense.

But just for the record, the ad won't make me any more or any less likely to shop at John Lewis!

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 06/11/2015 09:02

why isn't the xmas emoticon working?

Because it's November!

Advert is shite

Twitterqueen · 06/11/2015 09:04

only if we have the JL ad it is definitely Christmas Xmas Smile

InQuiteAPickle · 06/11/2015 09:04

The Christmas emoticon is working. Just type [ fgrin ] no spaces! Happy November! Xmas Smile

InQuiteAPickle · 06/11/2015 09:05

Ah x posted!

chrome100 · 06/11/2015 09:05

WTF. Christmas adverts? It's November. Fuck that.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 06/11/2015 09:05

God, you are all terrible people!

Chilledmonkeybrains · 06/11/2015 09:05

Nice story, beautifully shot as always and the tie in to Age Concern makes it all the more poignant. What's not to like?

OnceAnOwl · 06/11/2015 09:06

KnockMeDown I hadn't thought about being lonely in the Alzheimer's sense, but of course. Sad Flowers.

My Dad has Lewys Body Dementia, and although he's in a care home, he is in fact 'lonely' at times, especially not being with the family all the time.

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2015 09:08

All of it Chilled the story is Hmm to say the least. i bet it cost a fortune, they could have donated the whole lot to Age Concern instead.

Does John Lewis even sell telescopes?

What sort of merchandise can we look forward to? 'Elderly man' wrapping paper?

glenthebattleostrich · 06/11/2015 09:10

It made me cry. I liked it more than the trafficked penguin.

LucasIsMyMuse · 06/11/2015 09:14

Well it made me fill up but I also wanted him to be brought back to earth somehow. I thought he's left up there on his own but now he can see how much fun everyone else is having while he's stuck there. Sad I think the Age Concern is a good message though.

RattusRattus · 06/11/2015 09:15

Oooh - gloat alert!! - MN have quoted my post about this on their Twitter feed. Without the sweary bit tho. Blush [preen]

InQuiteAPickle · 06/11/2015 09:16

Just watched it.

Watched the whole thing thinking "this is daft, doesn't have anything to do with Christmas, not feeling Christmassy at all!" Then the end... Aww! and I thought that the song was totally fitting. Shock

I didn't cry though. What? I didn't, ok! Maybe a little lump rose in my throat but only a teeny tiny one.

RattusRattus · 06/11/2015 09:16

Lucas - maybe that's the New Year Sale ad - the old man is rescued by the little girl buying one of those Red Letter day experience thingies from JL and she buys a trip in the space shuttle (reduced by 50% until 30th Jan) and goes and gets him.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 06/11/2015 09:19

Sorry, am I the only one who just sees these adverts as nothing more than using over-emotional nonsense to sell their crap, over priced products? The only emotion these adverts envoke in me is irritation. Apparently those telescopes have already sold out, they certainly got their message across....

wickedwaterwitch · 06/11/2015 09:20

Oh I think it's lovely!

LucasIsMyMuse · 06/11/2015 09:20

Oh I hope so Skip! Grin

wickedwaterwitch · 06/11/2015 09:20

John Lewis products aren't crap though

Sparklingbrook · 06/11/2015 09:20

John Lewis do sell telescopes. Shock So everyone can buy their children one so they can actually see the man that lives on the moon for themselves. Yay!

spritefairy · 06/11/2015 09:21

Sad made me cry.
..just kept thinking about the elderly people sitting on their own at Christmas

LucasIsMyMuse · 06/11/2015 09:21

But that advert doesn't make me want to buy anything from JL though Mrs, well no more than I normally would. I do go to JL to have a look at their Christmas decs though because they are always beautiful.
