Yes, I know I am really, but this is about as exciting as my life gets at the moment Grin. Well, that, and the fact that I treated myself to a new ironing board yesterday...

OMG. I have just realised they spent a few weeks filming something Christmassy in a house down our road in August. Could it have been the JL advert????? (Rumour says it was a DFS advert but I don't believe it). I will be v excited if so.

DrMum83 · 05/11/2015 19:50

lurking - you must live very close to me then, I was embarrassingly there early, poised as the new M&S doors opened!
I've put a reminder in my phone for 7.55am to log onto YouTube.
I blame kids- I had a life before!

Booyaka · 05/11/2015 22:32

So they're going to do the same as every year? Get some class of dad rock song and have a woman rewarble it in a folksy plinky plonk manner whilst a child has a look of wonder on his face and some class of animated animal does something cutesy?

God. This is why people drink so much at Christmas. It almost drives me to the point of a drug habit sometimes. I wonder if I can rustle up any crack between now and the 25th? Might need it.

MadeMan · 05/11/2015 22:52

"...whilst a child has a look of wonder on his face and some class of animated animal does something cutesy?"

I'm guessing John Lewis' christmas theme this year is that the kid is about to put his badly wrapped but well meaning present for his mum under her pillow, but the cute family cat beats him to it and takes a dump on her pillow instead; hence the child's look of wonder and absolute bewilderment.

This all goes on whilst some random woman strangles the life out of an old Oasis record in the background.

MagersfonteinLugg · 05/11/2015 22:54

Its November FFS.

sugar21 · 05/11/2015 23:01

MadeMan Grin Grin dumper cat Grin Hilarious Grin

Foslady · 06/11/2015 01:04

I'm sure it will be about a child and their mum, just the two of them, no siblings, no dad figure and they'll have bought each other a nice but inexpensive gift each that turns out to be either identical or both what makes them genuinely smile as it's a family tradition.

Oh, sorry, silly me. Advertising agencies ignore single parent families......and last years penguin one basically said to me 'if you don't have someone who loves you at Christmas it will be crap - even a stuffed penguin can get a mate, you can't'

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/11/2015 01:08

FGS people there are still some LEAVES ON THE TREES!!!!!!!

Booyaka · 06/11/2015 01:13

Then Santa comes down and tries to leave a present but is confounded by all the kitty dumps where presents should be. But then Santa contracts toxoplasmosis off the cat shit and dies. So nobody gets any presents. Except for the people who went to John Lewis and bought Joules wellies and Le Crueset pans n stuff who all skip off into the sunset with animated bunnies while Mrs Claus weeps over Santas corpse and wonders what she's going to do as a single parent of 900 elves with no wage coming in.

She thinks they're going to have to resort to eating Rudoplph.

Booyaka · 06/11/2015 01:15

Rudoplph? Who the fuck is he?

Kuriusoranj · 06/11/2015 01:20

Definitely NBU. Specially cos you just inspired me to YouTube the last 6 years of JL Christmas ads and now I'm a bit teary and happy for the day.

Redglitter · 06/11/2015 01:23

I think JL ads are very over rated. Much preferred Sainsburys last year. I don't get the big excitement over JL

HelenaDove · 06/11/2015 01:26

They are doing it to raise awareness of and donations to AgeUK.

Oh another looking out for the 8am early run now.
Ah I love them, loved their Tiny Dancer this summer too. YANBU.

howtorebuild · 06/11/2015 01:53

I like that song, so for that reason yanbu.

MetallicBeige · 06/11/2015 02:27

Hmm Half the World Away. "I would like to leave this city, this old town don't smell too pretty". (Sung in watery, wobbly, breathy, girly whirly voice - natch!)

Here is my guess Grin.
A university aged teenager can't wait to leave home, ignores mum, rolls eyes, huffs and puffs, bangs the big massive front door closed on big massive house without saying bye etc. etc.
Younger sibling bewildered by theses shenanigans looks on in limpid eyed, yet cute and endearing fashion. (Clutching onto JL's must-have Xmas soft toy for this year, you know? The one that they will appear to have made too few of in order to get people desperate to own one...)

Teen/parent respectively go into JL, spot some kind of wonderful present, smile wistfully, teen returns home for Christmas, hugs mum tight with eyes shut sort of scene, exchange of presents, realises home is where the heart is. Cute younger sibling happy. The end.

I'm in the wrong job, I'm wasted in nursing, I could earn my fortune writing formulaic sentimental adverts. Wink

chumbler · 06/11/2015 06:28

Omg thanks for the heads up!!

Christmas is coming!! Is it too early to whack on the Michael buble Christmas album in the car?

wannaBe · 06/11/2015 06:38

the john lewis Christmas advert is one which gets to pass me by because there is not a word of dialogue in it, so as I am VI, not only do I not know what the advert is about, I don't even know which shop they're over hyping. Grin obviously I do, because sad warbled song is a bit of a giveaway, but ykwim. Grin

You all seriously need to get out more, and ask yourselves how you're so easily sucked in. Wink

InQuiteAPickle · 06/11/2015 06:39

YABU OP, and someone will be along in a minute to shoot you down because you mentioned Christmas in November OUTSIDE OF THE CHRISTMAS TOPIC! Shock

I'm already excited though! (For Christmas not the bloody JL advert).

Happy holidays everybody Xmas Grin Wink.

BrendaandEddie · 06/11/2015 06:40

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 06/11/2015 06:40

BrendaandEddie · 06/11/2015 06:51

I don't mind Christmas it's just idealising a stupid advert I find ridiculous

gaggiagirl · 06/11/2015 06:52

I'm still crying over the Sainsburys one last year!
Cannot wait for 8am tomorrow!!!

gaggiagirl · 06/11/2015 07:06
